LIV Golf heads to Japan for first time with International Series event
LIV Golf will make its first foray into Japan in May, after adding another stop to this year's International Series.

Among the players from the Saudi-backed league already committed to competing in the event are Harold Varner III and Lucas Herbert.
The tournament at Caledonian Golf Club will take place the week after LIV Golf Korea, and will mark the Asian Tour's first return to the country since the Diamond Cup three years ago.
Made up of 10 elevated tournaments on the Tour, the series forms part of the pathway to LIV, and as well as a strong contingent from the regional circuit, players from Japan and around the world are expected to be in the 156-man field.

In May, the Portuguese posted on social media "the chapter is over" as reports emerged he could switch to another club, potentially Saudi side Al Hilal, in order to play the Club World Cup in the United States in June. But he left behind all the speculation as he knocked in his 137th international goal, extending his own record in his 220th game for Portugal. Ronaldo had missed a few half chances but after Francisco Conceicao had levelled after Florian Wirtz had put Germany ahead early in the second half, he was on the spot to tap in a Nuno Mendes pass which put Portugal on track for victory. "It's his ambition to keep going," Silva said of his long-time teammate. "It's never easy – I don't know how old he is, I think he's like 40 – to still be hungry to go every day." "He's been doing this for more than 20 years. It's tough, but he's here with us and we're happy he scored again," he added. The victory was Ronaldo's first against Germany, after five straight losses. Portugal last won against Germany in 2000. Portugal coach Roberto Martinez echoed Silva's statements, saying his "hunger" and desire to improve made him a unique figure in the sport. "It's difficult to put into words. He takes each day as an opportunity to get better," Martinez said. "As a human, when you have success, you wake up and you have less hunger. But not Cristiano." The former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward also won praise from opposing coach Julian Nagelsmann, who singled out the veteran's professionalism as the reason for his longevity. File photo: Reuters Bruno Fernandes confirmed he rejected a huge offer from Saudi Arabia to stay at Manchester United, saying he wanted to "continue to play at the highest level". Speaking to media in a Portugal camp ahead of Wednesday's Nations League semi-final against Germany in Munich, Fernandes confirmed he received an "exciting offer" from Al Hilal but wanted to be part of Ruben Amorim's rebuild at Old Trafford. Reports said Al Hilal were willing to pay United up to US$135 million for the 30-year-old Portugal international. "The president of Al Hilal called me and asked me if I wanted to move there," Fernandes confirmed, saying the club "waited for me to think about my future". "I talked to the gaffer and he asked me not to go," Fernandes revealed. "Man United said they didn't want to sell me. They said if I wanted to go I could but they didn't need the money." The player said a transfer would have been "easy" with several Portuguese players already in Saudi Arabia, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves, but added: "I want to play at the highest possible level. "I want to play major competitions. I know I still can and I want to be happy doing the thing I love the most," he added. "I think that there was an element of this situation that meant United getting that level of money, for someone of Bruno's age, obviously, you couldn't say that it would have been a bad deal," he said. "But, on the other hand, Manchester United's star player – only player at times – for the last four, five, six years, has been Bruno Fernandes. He's so important." "To turn that money down at a point where Manchester United are at their lowest ebb and say, 'No, I want to fight through this, I want to see it through the other side, I want to come out and achieve things,' I think it says a lot about him as a person, as a character," Neville added. "The club needs people who are going to run through a brick wall for them." United are expected to be busy in the transfer market as Amorim reshapes his under-performing squad. The man who engineered Manchester United's post-season Asian tour said he was already planning to bring more big clubs to Hong Kong next year.
