"This is a perfect time for us to tell you that it's our last album." Megadeth to retire, announce final album and farewell tour to come in 2026
Dave Mustaine has stunned the metal world by revealing that Megadeth are set to call it a day. The thrash metal icon confirmed the news earlier today in an official statement, where he explains that the band's upcoming studio album, due out in 2026, will be their last, with a global farewell tour to follow.
'There's so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional,' the frontman explains. 'Most of them don't get to go out on their own terms on top, and that's where I'm at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them. 'We can't wait for you to hear this album and see us on tour," he adds. "If there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it's now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it's now. This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it's our last studio album. We've made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour.
"Don't be mad, don't be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years," Mustaine concludes. "We have done something together that's truly wonderful and will probably never happen again. We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it's played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.'
Megadeth's final studio album will land in 2026 via Mustaine's own Tradecraft imprint, in partnership with Frontiers Label Group's newly launched BLKIIBLK label.
Formed by Dave Mustaine in 1983 following his unceremonious dismissal from Metallica, Megadeth would go on to become a key force in the burgeoning thrash metal movement and one of the most influential metal bands of all time.
They have released sixteen studio albums, the most recent of which, The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!, was released in 2022.

Avengers: Doomsday's 'leaked' X-Men design for Nightcrawler is actually just fan art

We'll have to wait a bit longer to see the X-Men design for Avengers: Doomsday, because it turns out that a previously 'leaked' image is just fanart. The original artwork was shared by Alan Cumming himself, who plays Nightcrawler and is returning for the next Avengers movie. It appeared to show a picture of his character in costume, but, as one person has debunked on Twitter, the image is actually an edit made by a fan and shared online last year. "Actually, what's great about it, it was four-and-a-half to five hours before, and now it was 90 minutes," Cumming has previously said of his Nightcrawler look. "Before, all the tattoos were done by hand because they hadn't decided on them before we started filming and now there are all these little things that stick on – it's a game changer." Cumming isn't the only X-Men actor returning for Avengers: Doomsday, either. He'll be joined by Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Kelsey Grammer, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, as revealed in that bumper sized casting announcement. "[I'm] not quite sure [if Mystique's scenes have all been filmed]. They haven't finished writing it." Romijn said back in July. "They keep everything close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps." That tracks with what Kevin Feige has said about the movie, too: "There's plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well." The Who setlist: All the songs on the iconic band's farewell tour
SUNRISE, Fla. – Two years ago, Roger Daltrey said he doubted The Who would ever tour North America again. He was almost correct. Daltrey and fellow Who mastermind Pete Townshend kicked off what will be the band's swan song – the aptly named The Song is Over North American Farewell Tour – at Amerant Bank Arena in suburban Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Aug. 16. The classic rock fans who have followed the band for decades mingled with the younger generations bred on muscular rockers including 'Pinball Wizard,' 'I Can't Explain' and durable anthem 'Won't Get Fooled Again" as The Who rolled through a 23-song set scaling their legendary 60-year career. Joining Daltrey, 81, and Townshend, 80, onstage were longtime collaborators Simon Townshend (guitar), Jon Button (bass), Loren Gold (keyboards), Jody Linscott (percussion), John Hogg (backing vocals) and Scott Devours, who took over drum duties earlier this year following the contentious dismissal of Zak Starkey, who had played with The Who for nearly 30 years. The 17-date tour, named for a song on The Who's classic 1971 album 'Who's Next,' is playing arenas, amphitheaters and Fenway Park in Boston (Aug. 26) and will take its final bow Sept. 28 in Las Vegas.
