Corruption, nepotism in UP Police recruitment before 2017 weakened law and order: Adityanath
'Before 2017, recruitment processes were riddled with irregularities, nepotism, money exchanged hands, bias ruled selections, and the future of the youth was thrown into darkness. This led to an increase in riots, lawlessness, hooliganism, terrorism, and a general atmosphere of insecurity in the state,' the chief minister stated. Adityanath made the statement while addressing a gathering at an appointment letter distribution event for 1,494 newly-selected assistant operators in the Uttar Pradesh Police Telecom Department at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. Lucknow, Aug 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday claimed that police recruitments in the state before 2017 were marred by corruption and nepotism, which directly impacted the state's law and order situation. 'Sometimes, there were attacks in the courts of Ayodhya, Kashi and Lucknow, and sometimes, there were terrorist attacks. During this period, the CRPF camp in Rampur was also targeted,' he added. Emphasising the 'double-engine government', formed in 2017 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Adityanath mentioned that significant steps were taken to ensure transparent and fair recruitment processes. 'The Police Recruitment Board was strengthened, and as a result, Uttar Pradesh now tops the country in police recruitments and government jobs,' Adityanath claimed, adding that so far, 8.5 lakh youth have been given government jobs, the highest in the country. Highlighting the recruitment reforms, Adityanath pointed out that over 2.17 lakh personnel have been recruited into the police force since 2017. 'These figures are not just numbers; they signify a renewed identity, security, and public trust,' he remarked. The chief minister also noted significant infrastructure developments in police lines and headquarters across districts, mentioning that barracks are now often the tallest structures in those areas. Seven new police commissionerates have been established, and women now have a 20 per cent reservation in police recruitment, he informed. Adityanath further praised the role of the police telecom department during the Mahakumbh and noted the provision of a 20 per cent reservation for Agniveers in police recruitment. 'In a state with 25 crore people, the role of telecom police is crucial. As India moves towards becoming the third-largest economy, the police must balance sensitivity with strictness,' he concluded. Among the 1494 recruits, there are 1,374 assistant operators and 120 workshop staff, according to an official statement. This development follows the recruitment of 60,244 constables earlier this year. PTI ABN ABN MPL MPL This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday said with the release of the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, an amount of more than Rs 3,300 crore has been provided to the farmers of the hilly state so far. Virtually taking part in a programme in Varanasi where Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday digitally transferred a total amount of more than Rs 20,500 crore to the accounts of 9.70 crore farmers of the country under the 20th installment of the scheme, Dhami said with this, an amount of Rs 184.25 crore was transferred to over eight lakh beneficiary farmer families of Uttarakhand. It takes the total amount paid so far under the scheme to the farmers of Uttarakhand to Rs 3,300 crore, he said. After 2014, historic steps have been taken for the welfare of farmers across the country. By increasing the minimum support price on major crops, the farmers are being provided a fair price for their crop. Through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the farmers are also being provided security cover for losses caused by natural disasters, crop diseases and pests, he said. Through the Soil Health Card scheme, by scientifically examining the soil of the fields, farmers are also being informed about the deficiency of nutrients and necessary fertilisers, which is improving both the quality of their produce and the fertility of the land. The chief minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, the state government is continuously working for the upliftment and prosperity of the farmers of the state. Loans up to Rs 3 lakh are being made available to farmers in the state without interest. Up to 80 per cent subsidy is also being provided through the Farm Machinery Bank Scheme for purchasing agricultural equipment. Irrigation from canals has been made completely free in the interest of farmers. A provision of Rs 200 crore has also been made for the construction of polyhouses to increase the income of farmers. Along with providing a bonus of Rs 20 per quintal to farmers on wheat purchase, the price of sugarcane has also been increased by Rs 20 per quintal. The chief minister said that many important schemes like the new apple policy, kiwi policy, State Millet Mission and Dragon Fruit Policy have been implemented by the state government at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. Under these policies, a subsidy of up to 80 per cent is being provided to farmers to promote horticulture.

BJP, Congress claim majority in Uttarakhand panchayat polls
Dehradun, Aug 1 (UNI) As counting for the three-tier panchayat polls in Uttarakhand ended, both the ruling BJP and main opposition Congress claimed victories today. Congress and BJP stated that they will have majority in the 89 Block and 12 District Panchayat bodies for which elections were held. Reacting on the results declared by the State Election Commission, BJP said that majority of the candidates supported by it have won in 7,499 village panchayats, 89 Kshetra Panchayats and 12 district panchayats for which elections were held in two phases in July. "Large number of BJP supported candidates have won in the recently concluded polls for village panchayat heads, Kshetra Panchayat members and District Panchayat members in the state. I thank people of Uttarakhand for coming out in large numbers and cast their franchise with 70 percent polling in the monsoon," said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. "Now the elected representatives must work hard to realise the goal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India a developed nation," he added. "BJP-backed candidates have registered huge wins in elections for Gram Pradhan and District Panchayat members. It's confirmed that BJP will form its boards in all 89 blocks and elect its presidents in all 12 district Panchayats. This victory is proof of the BJP's organisational strength and people's trust in it. Congress should now introspect instead of making allegations," said state BJP president Mahendra Bhatt. BJP's state media in-charge Manveer Chauhan stated that the victory of party workers as district panchayat members, kshetra panchayat members, village pradhans and village panchayat ward members is evidence of the enthusiasm among the electorate to support the BJP. Size of BJP supported candidates' victories will ensure that party wins all 12 districts panchayat presidentship and majority of the 89 kshetra panchahayat headships in coming days, he said. On the other hand Congress party too was not behind in claiming victories of the candidates supported by it in all three tiers of panchayat bodies. State Congress president Karan Mahra said "Results are proof of the massive public support for the Congress supported candidates in panchayat polls. Panchayat poll electorates have given clear majority to the Congress party in all three categories of panchayat bodies. People have voted against the BJP and the malpractices of the State Election Commission. BJP candidates lost even at places considered to be strongholds of its senior leaders and the party is distributing sweets." "While we are still assessing the village panchayats won by our candidates. Congress supported nominees have won 138 of 198 district panchayat constituencies contested by them. Besides this more than half of the kshetra panchayat bodies have also been won by the Congress supported and independent candidates. Claims made by the BJP are false. Ruling party has been dealt a massive blow in panchayat polls," said the Congress senior leader and state vice president Suryakant Dhasmana. Panchayat polls in Uttarakhand were held for 7,499 village panchayat pradhans, 2,974 members of 89 Kshetra Panchayats(BDCs) and 358 constituencies of 12 districts panchayats except Haridwar in two phases on July 24 and July 28. Counting was held on July 31, but State Election Commission couldn't provide partywise details of the poll outcome as voting was not held on party symbols. However, presidential elections in Kshetra and District Panchayats will be held on party symbols in coming days. Electorate will be constituted of newly elected members of these panchayat bodies.
