Man held with firearm and bullets at Nagpur airport
The accused, identified as Anil Shrikrishna Porad, is the president of the Tribal Cell of a political party. He is a resident of Yavatmal in eastern Maharashtra, a police official said.
Mr. Porad reached the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport to board a flight to Delhi around 9 pm on Friday.
'During the scanning of his luggage, CISF personnel spotted a suspicious object. When they opened the bag, they found a desi katta (country-made firearm) and two live bullets inside', the official said.
Airport authorities immediately alerted the Sonegaon police station, and a team of police personnel was dispatched to the scene.
'During questioning by police, Poram failed to explain why he was carrying a firearm. He was taken to the police station and arrested under provisions of the Arms Act,' the police official added.
Further investigation is underway to understand Poram's motive and how he managed to bring the firearm to the airport despite strict security rules, he said.

As many as 25 CCTV cameras in a 500-meter radius, three patrolling men with walkie-talkies on the narrow roads leading to his house and a special room on the ground floor of his three-storey house to see the CCTV feeds. These, according to police, were the measures taken by a Surat-based drug lord to evade police arrest. Shiva alias Shivraj Zala (28) has given police a slip whenever his house was raided by police. His luck, however, ran out on Tuesday night when police arrested Zala from his house, the only tall property surrounded by single-floor pucca houses in the Bhatena area of Surat city. Police also seized Rs 16 lakh, 120 grams of mephedrone (a synthetic drug) and two pistols from his house. After several failed attempts to arrest Zala, police sources said they devised a different strategy to arrest him. First, cops talked to local youths of the Bhatena area and learnt about the security cover placed by Zala. The police team did a recce of the area and found the CCTV cameras in 25 locations. On Tuesday, the Surat Special Operation Group (SOG) got information that Zala was present in his house. Acting on a plan, 25 policemen in plain clothes travelled on 15 bikes to the narrow roads near his house close to the overbridge built on Koili Creek. All six routes leading to Zala's house were screened by police. SOG police inspector A P Chaudhary said, 'We have earlier identified the escape routes of Zala and a group of police personnel were deployed on all six escape routes, including the way to Koli Creek and its bridge so that he could not give us a slip this time.' 'We parked our bikes at different locations around a 100-metre radius of his house. A group of policemen, led by me, reached the narrow lane leading to his house. The main door of his house was open and a police team barged in and overpowered Zala,' Chaudhary said, adding that he was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act. According to police, Zala was involved in various crimes including murder, attempt-to-murder, robbery and drugs trade. A total of 16 cases had been registered against him. 'Shiva had been known as a messiah in the Bhatena area, where low-income group families reside. He used to help the residents financially for marriage, medical treatment and other needs. The Bhatena area is dominated by people from the minority community. He has good clout among the locals and nobody dared to raise their voice against him,' Chaudhary said. Police sources said that Zala is the youngest son of a tempo driver, Bhupendrasinh Zala, hailing from Dhandhuka taluka in Ahmedabad district. Police said that long ago, his father migrated from Dhandhuka to Surat and settled in the Bhatena area. He has three other sons. Chaudhary added, 'Zala used to buy drugs from a person in Mumbai. Drug peddlers used to come to his place and buy drugs directly. He was selling drugs only to known peddlers and also kept watch of their movements. We are trying to dig out more information from him and identify the peddlers involved with him.'

Two men with illegal pistol held in Bhilwara
Bhilwara: Hamirgarh police arrested two men with an illegal pistol during patrolling in Bhilwara district Tuesday. Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh Yadav said that a special team was formed under ASP Paras Jain and Rural DySP Shyam Sundar Vishnoi and was led by Hamirgarh station officer Sanjay Gurjar to effectively combat illegal weapons in the district. "Acting on a tip-off, they spotted two suspicious men on a motorcycle near Shani Maharaj intersection in Hamirgarh area. Upon searching, they found a home-made pistol with an empty magazine. The motorcycle and the illegal pistol were seized. Govindanand Regar (19) from Datada village in the Asind police station area and Yuvraj Singh Rajput (23) from Birdhol village in the Kotdi police station area of Bhilwara district were arrested." A case has been registered under the Arms Act and an investigation has begun.

Man guns down 25 dogs, animal activists outraged
1 2 Jhunjhunu: A gruesome incident in Kumawas village, located in the Nawalgarh area of Jhunjhunu district, has sparked outrage by animal activists after at least two individuals were filmed shooting and killing more than 25 dogs. The horrific act was committed on Aug 2 and 3 but it wasn't until a video surfaced on social media on Wednesday that local police acted. The video footage shows two individuals on a motorcycle chasing and firing at stray dogs with a gun, leaving their bodies scattered across village streets and fields. Another person on a second bike is partially seen in the same video following and filming the duo on the first bike. It was unclear if the individual on second bike was complicit in the crime. Preliminary police probe later identified one of the accused as Shyochand Bavariya, a resident of Dumra village. Local police have registered a case against Bavariya under multiple sections of the Animal Cruelty Act and the Arms Act. The incident has sparked outrage among animal lovers and local residents, who are calling for strict action against the perpetrators. Superintendent of Police, Jhunjhunu, Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay confirmed the video's authenticity and dispatched head constable Shubhkaran to the village for further investigation. "We are aware of the video showing a person shooting at dogs in Kumawas village. Immediate steps were taken to investigate the matter," Upadhyay said.
