Late Queen 'dismayed' by Harry's actions right before and after marrying Meghan
Royal sources say the late Queen Elizabeth II was left 'deeply hurt' by Prince Harry's conduct before and after his big day with Meghan Markle, straining a relationship that had once been one of the closest in the family
Whilst minimal in comparison to his brother's wedding, when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle at St George's Chapel in Windsor back in May 2018, it was certainly a grand royal affair. It was before any public feud played out after quitting their duties with The Firm, with the Royal Family out in full force.
The new Duke and Duchess of Sussex looked like a fairytale couple. But behind the scenes, it seems all was not as harmonious as it appeared, with this the start of reported cracks starting to form. According to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, the late Queen Elizabeth was privately 'dismayed' by her grandson's behaviour both before and after the big day.
Seward alleges the Queen's close friend and cousin, Lady Elizabeth Anson, said the Queen was left troubled by Harry's 'high-handed attitude' during that period. This apparently is what tilted the scales, reportedly leaving their relationship 'badly damaged' moving forward, the Daily Mail reports.
'Tiara tantrums and raised voices'
One heated exchange came after Meghan's chosen tiara, the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau, was at the last minute kept from her so she couldn't access the headpiece for a hair trial. Reports at the time claimed the Queen herself stepped in to calm matters and was not impressed by Harry raising his voice at the Queen's dresser, Angela Kelly, over the issue.
The Queen also reportedly raised eyebrows at Meghan's choice to wear a white dress and veil, a traditional look usually reserved for brides marrying for the first time. Meghan had previously been married to film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2013.
Adding to the tension, Harry was said to have sought special permission to wear his military uniform beard and all despite the Army's usual policy against facial hair while in dress uniform.
'Very hurt'
Harry and the Queen had always shared a warm relationship. They even filmed a light-hearted Invictus Games promo together in 2016, showing off their playful dynamic. But that closeness reportedly faded after Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal life in 2020.
Lady Elizabeth Anson told author Katie Nicholl: 'I don't think the Queen ever truly understood Harry's decision to leave. Turning one's back on duty is completely alien to the Queen and she has been left very hurt by it all.'
That
The fracture only continued following Harry and Meghan's headline-making interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. The couple spoke openly about their grievances with The Firm, including very serious allegations about how the family had handled issues of race.
Meghan recalled: 'Concerns and conversations about how dark his [Archie's] skin would be when he was born. People were concerned with how dark Archie's skin would be.' It was during this interview that Harry admitted that despite his love for his brother he was on a very different path to him. He also said both William and King Charles were 'trapped' in the institution.
Spared the pain of Spare
The Queen passed away before the publication of Spare in 2023, however it's widely believed it would have been deeply unsettling for her. Especially the revelations including Harry's drug use, how he lost his virginity in a field behind a pub, and details about family rows including a tense exchange between Meghan and Kate over 'baby brain' comments.
The publication of Harry's book has only widened the divide between Harry and the rest of the Royal Family, which in part is why King Charles is claimed not to want to meet with Prince Harry in private. There have been few meetings between the father and son since Harry moved to California with Meghan.

Meghan Markle shares video of her, Prince Harry and their kids at Disneyland
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, continues to share sweet snippets of her family life with husband Prince Harry and their two kids, Archie and Lilibet. In her latest Instagram post, the former Meghan Markle shared a video collage filled with photos of their trip to Disneyland for their daughter's fourth birthday. 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' Meghan captioned her post Friday. The video, set to Peggy Lee's 'It's a Good Day,' shows Lilbet and Archie meeting Elsa and Anna from 'Frozen.' In all the pictures she included of their little ones, their faces are obscured or covered with a heart. The recap of their trip to the Happiest Place on Earth also includes the family on rides like Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the Cars Land ride and many more. There's also a silly photo of Meghan and Harry screaming while on Space Mountain. The two are sitting front row with their mouths wide open — yet appearing like they're having fun. And the festivities continued for the family of four. Meghan also shows Lilibet's 'Little Mermaid' birthday cake, their Mickey and Minnie stuffed dolls, the corn dogs and pickles they munched on during their trip and several other family photos from the park. Among the cutest is one of all four posing together, in which Lilibet is barefoot and in a pink dress with bows. The latest look into Meghan's personal home life comes after she celebrated her daughter's birthday on June 4. The former 'Suits' star shared a number of photos of her little girl from when she was born to their most recent adventures together. There were also snaps of Harry and his 'favorite adventurer' holding hands. 'Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives — and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!' Meghan wrote in her first post. Additionally, she also posted a never-before-seen video of when she was pregnant with Lilibet and dancing with Harry at the hospital in hopes to induce labor. 'Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work — there was only one thing left to do!' she captioned the fun and rare video of them. Meghan returned to Instagram on Jan. 1 after leaving the platform in early 2018 during her highly publicized engagement to Harry. Among her posts include family photos, outings and news about her podcast, Netflix projects and more.

Alison wore a huge fake belly under a figure hugging dress as she showcased her moves to Starrkeisha's viral song Baby Mama. The broadcaster, who is already mum to son Aidan, 20, whom she shares with ex-husband, captioned the post: "Lots of AI stories online about me being pregnant. "I can confirm I am not having a baby as I'm not sure my 50 year old womb could take it . "However I do think we should all dance like Meghan!!" Of course, it wasn't long before Alison's followers rushed to post in the comments. One said: "Just another reason to love Alison." Another added: "I love this so much! And double yes to Meghan!." "Such a Queen," said another. While one fan gushed: "YOU ARE AMAZING ALISON X." Alison Hammond shows off 11 stone weight loss in leggings as she hits the gym for gruelling workout Meghan, 43, released the 89-second clip of her and Prince Harry to her three million followers on Instagram after earlier posting unseen photos of her daughter. It showed the heavily pregnant Meghan making rowing movements and shimmying her shoulders beside the hospital bed. Prince Harry also shuffles into view in a hoodie to the strains of then-viral pregnancy hit The Baby Momma Dance. But the clip sparked bizarre claims from conspiracy theorists, who questioned whether the baby bump was real. The wild online speculation cruelly suggested that Meghan wasn't pregnant at all and was in fact wearing a prosthetic pregnant belly or "moonbump". Some went even further with groundless claims that the video was faked, made on a film set or even generated by AI. Meanwhile, Alison who is already on nearly every channel, making programmes about baking, travel, dogs and hobnobbing with celebrities - has bagged yet another show. The TV celebrity will this summer front new Channel 4 project Your Song. In the series she will tour Britain giving ordinary members of the public the chance to perform a track which has special meaning to them. But Alison will have to squeeze her new job into her schedule. As well as appearing soon on Channel 4's Bake Off and Celebrity Gogglebox, for the BBC she's just made travel series Florida Unpacked and interview show Alison Hammond's Big Weekend for the BBC.
