British woman accused of assaulting child in Turkey discharged from extradition
A British teacher accused of sexually assaulting a child in Turkey has been discharged from an extradition request by a judge.
Rebecca Richardson, 54, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday to fight extradition to Turkey over allegations she sexually assaulted a young child while teaching at an international school in Istanbul in early 2019.
During the hearing, Judge Paul Goldspring discharged Richardson from the extradition request.
He granted the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) two weeks to decide whether they wish to appeal the decision in the High Court.
A spokesperson for the CPS said on Wednesday: 'On 25 June 2025, a district judge sitting at Westminster Magistrates' Court discharged Ms Richardson from an extradition request made by the Government of the Republic of Turkey.
'The CPS will now consider the judgment carefully.'
The court previously heard that Richardson, of Cradley in Herefordshire, left the UK in 2000 and spent nearly 20 years living abroad.
She lived in Turkey between 2013 and 2019, but before that had lived in Mexico and Hong Kong, the extradition hearing was told.
She was granted bail until the next hearing at the court on July 9.

The victim claims she told Barnett he was 'being manipulative' and when she tried to walk to her bedroom, Barnett allegedly 'grabbed both of her hands from behind her, demonstrated the handcuff position, then picked her up and did a 'swoop onto the couch.'' Per the statement Barnett then pulled his pants down and screamed at her 'Is this what you f*****g want?' and 'Are you f*****g happy now?' The alleged victim said due to being forced into the couch she couldn't breathe and lost consciousness for approximately one minute. She claimed she was woken when Barnett 'sat her up, slapped her across the face really hard and just kept going.' The alleged victim claims Barnett 'violently' raped her and strangled her again, leaving her 'lightheaded.' The statement claims the assault only stopped when she 'grabbed their one-year-old child, who was crying.' Mariska Hargitay opened up about how her husband reacted to her bombshell revelation that she was raped by a friend when she was in her 30s. The 61-year-old actress appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper as she revealed the effects of telling Peter Hermann - who she has been married to since 2004 - about the abuse. At the time Mariska recalled to the now 57-year-old actor what had happened and he confirmed that it was a sexual assault. She explained: 'That's why I understand about denial and dissociating and I have so much room for that. 'Now, I look at it and I say I'm grateful for that part of myself that kept me safe, for that part of myself that said you're not ready to deal with it.' Back in January 2024, the talented actress made the revelation as she said she 'checked out of her body' during the terrifying assault in a heartbreaking first-person essay for People. On the podcast, she candidly talked about how she was 'in denial' over the assault. Mariska explained: 'I couldn't process that I couldn't get out of it. I have gotten out of so many things through my intellect, through comedy, through just outsmarting. 'I couldn't understand that I couldn't. That just lived in me and so I blamed myself and then it got to the point where it just became so clear what happened.'
