Two arrested after fatal stabbing of man who ‘tried to break up' fight
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 22-year-old man, who witnesses said was stabbed while trying to be a 'mediator' in a fight.
Police were called to the scene outside Hounslow Muslim Centre on Hanworth Road, west London, at 2.21pm on Sunday.
Paramedics treated the victim for multiple stab wounds before he was taken to hospital where he later died, the Metropolitan Police said.An investigation was launched into the death and two men, aged 27 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday.
Both remain in custody for questioning.
The victim, named locally as Dara Sayed Barham, worked two jobs, including one at a restaurant near where the incident took place.
His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers, police said.
Witnesses described him as a 'very good man' who worked at the Menara Lounge, a Middle Eastern restaurant, next to the Muslim Centre.
One said: 'It's so sad, he was only 22 and was trying to be a mediator in a fight that broke out between people outside the restaurant on the street.
'He was trying to break it up but got caught up in the fight.'
Farhan Ali, 31, lives in Hounslow and has been running a phone shop for nine years near where the incident took place.
He said of the victim: 'He was such a good guy, and so hard-working too.
'He was my best customer and would often send people up from the restaurant he worked at to help my business.
'He was only 22 and it's so sad – life is so short.
'I've known him for six years and he is a big part of the community here and an amazing person.'
One friend of the victim said: 'He used to bring me sandwiches from the restaurant, and he'd always stop to chat.
'He has died for nothing. He was taken too soon. Nobody had a bad word to say about Dara.'
The Metropolitan Police said there is nothing to suggest a link between the incident and the Hounslow Muslim Centre.
Superintendent James Rawlinson, from the local neighbourhood policing team, said: 'We are aware of the effect this horrendous incident has had on the local community, and have designated officers on reassurance patrols to answer questions that you may have.
'Residents will continue to see increased police presence whilst this investigation remains ongoing.
'I encourage anyone who has information but may not have contacted police yet to get in touch and assist with this investigation.
'Our thoughts, as always, remain with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time.'

Investigators say an attempted murder suspect arrested earlier in June allegedly had plans to kill several coworkers at his Northern California radio station. Chico police say officers responded to Results Radio along Manzanita Court on the morning of June 18 after getting reports that an employee at the station, later identified as 30-year-old Chico resident Kevin Leeson, had allegedly stabbed a coworker. At the scene, officers say the stabbing victim was trapped in a back patio with the suspect still inside the building -- blocking the person from getting out. The rest of the staff had evacuated. Police did not detail how they learned of Leeson's alleged plans. Leeson has been arrested and booked into Butte County Jail. He's facing charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Bears get paws on the honey in UK wildlife park escape
Two young bears escaped from their enclosure at a UK wildlife park and devoured a week's worth of food store honey before falling asleep, the attraction said on Tuesday. Mish and Lucy, both aged four, got out of their enclosure at Wildwood Devon in southwestern England on Monday afternoon. The pair made a beeline for their food store where they scoffed snack's including the seven-day supply of honey, a park statement said. The bears "posed no threat to the public at any point" although visitors on site were escorted to a secure building as a precaution. During the hour-long drama, the bears were "continuously monitored both on the ground and via CCTV" until they were returned to their enclosure by keepers and promptly "fell asleep", Wildwood added. Police attended the scene and an investigation was underway to determine how the animals managed to break out, it said. The park spread across 40 acres (160 hectares) of gardens and woodland is home to an array of wildlife including brown bears, wolves and arctic foxes.

Authorities believe the Washington father accused of killing his three young daughters is still alive and actively evading authorities as federal and state law enforcement officials continue to comb through the dense wilderness in search of the military-trained survivalist. Travis Decker has managed to avoid capture for three weeks and is wanted for allegedly killing his three daughters – Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5 – after their bodies were found near a Washington campsite earlier this month. "We'll eventually get to find him," Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison told KING 5. "It may be in a week, it may be in a couple of years, but we're not going to go away." The revelation comes after officials announced earlier this week they are combing through the Teanaway Valley and Blewett Pass areas, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office. "If you have trail cameras or doorbell cameras, please check them for suspicious activity," the department said in a statement. "If you have residences in these areas, check them for anything missing – no matter how small or seemingly insignificant."
