Pep Guardiola tells fans to bring their TOWELS before Man City's Club World Cup clash with Juventus with temperatures expected to exceed 33C in Florida
Pep Guardiola admitted that Manchester City must suffer in the soaring heat and told fans in Orlando to bring a towel before Thursday's clash with Juventus.
Temperatures are expected to rise above 33 degrees in Florida when City meet the Serie A giants to determine who tops the group, with Real Madrid potential opponents in the last 16.
Guardiola's team have been training 200 miles south in Boca Raton and used to the state's intense heat but the manager is taking team selection decisions based on the weather this week.
The Catalan surprisingly suggested that he could make another 11 changes for the game and do the same once the knockout stages begin.
'I advise to the people: bring water, hats and towels and for the necks,' Guardiola said. 'The heat is obvious. We can't change it. We have to be ready to suffer.
'I'm making the selection tomorrow thinking about the second half because in these conditions we can't play at our rhythm.'
City's second match of the competition, the 6-0 win over Al Ain, was in Atlanta's enclosed and air-conditioned Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
This climate should be their toughest test so far. 'It's better to play at Atlanta's stadium which is fantastic,' Guardiola added. 'But all the teams have to handle it.'
The City boss also took aim at FIFA for slapping Rico Lewis with a three-match ban for serious foul play in the opening match against Wydad AC. Lewis scraped his opponent's chin with a boot in a 50-50 challenge.
'If FIFA want to show how strong they are then OK, we'll accept the three games,' he said. 'I didn't have the honour to talk with Collina on the reason why. I'm pretty sure the referees don't know Rico. Sometimes we even say (to him) as a defender you have to be more aggressive.'

Kerkez departure was 'inevitable'
It's a big blow for Bournemouth to lose Milos Kerkez but they've known this was probably coming for some time and have prepared well for his departure by signing left-backs Julio Soler and Adrien Truffert before they've allowed the Hungarian international to £40m represents another strong profit for the Cherries too and looks like good business when you consider the £31m Manchester City have just paid for Rayan Ait-Nouri.I'm sure it will hurt some fans that Richard Hughes has come back to Bournemouth to take Kerkez to Liverpool but I think it was inevitable that he was going to leave and if it wasn't the Reds then it would have probably been another top European club that came in for been a pleasure to watch Kerkez develop over the last two years and he is now rightly one of the most expensive left-back's in the world. He'll be a significant loss to the Cherries defensively and in attack. He did take a season to find his feet in the Premier League though and I'm not sure Bournemouth can afford that with his replacement. Truffert is a few years older at 23 and I'm sure the hope will be that his extra experience and style of play will mean he can hit the ground running next to more analysis on the latest episode of Cherries: Unpicked

'Brilliant' and 'a real character' - Liverpool sign Kerkez for £40m
Liverpool have taken their summer spending to about £170m with the signing of left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a deal worth £ 21-year-old Hungary international has signed a five-year contract with the is Liverpool's third major signing of the transfer window, following the arrival of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and right-back Jeremie Frimpong, both from Bayer paid a club record £116m, made up of an initial £100m and a further £16m in potential add-ons, for German interntaional Wirtz and £29.5m for Dutchman Frimpong."It's a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, [the] biggest club in England. I'm just really, really happy and excited," said Kerkez."After this, I'll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can't really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season."It is a major step in the career of the left-back, but Kerkez has played for a European 'super club' early 2021 he received a phone call from AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini, who convinced him to join the Serie A the 17-year-old Kerkez said at the time, you don't turn down hindsight, he possibly wishes he Hungarian never started a competitive match for Milan and a year later was shipped off to AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch saw potential in the market and took a chance on Kerkez by signing him for an undisclosed fee in July 2023. The gamble paid started all 38 of the Cherries' Premier League games in the 2024-25 season, helping them to a club-record total of 56 points in the top is now at a giant European club once years on from his arrival in Milan, will it work out for the full-back this time around? How did Kerkez perform for Bournemouth? In short, he was a top performer for the breezed past their top-flight record points total in April and managed to finish in the top half of the Premier League for the second time in their fine form was largely thanks to manager Andoni Iraola's high-intensity, high-energy and high-pressing up the left side, Kerkez played a major part in the team's left-back ranked second for the most distanced covered among all Premier League full-backs in 2024-25 - behind only Fulham's Antonee Robinson - and third for most made the third-most crosses from open play in the Premier League and had eight goal involvements (two goals and six assists).Defensively, Kerkez may not be the game's most prolific tackler, but he is still firmly in the Premier League's top 20 full-backs for interceptions (1.25) and ball recoveries (4.54) per 90 his best game of the season came in Bournemouth's 2-1 home win over champions Manchester City in November when he set up both goals after lung-busting runs and pinpoint crosses."Kerkez was brilliant, not only offensively but defensively as well," former Manchester City defender Micah Richards told BBC Match of the Day that Bournemouth defender Joe Partington told BBC Radio Solent a few months later: "He's a standout player. He's involved in moments that define the outcomes of games."In March, former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha told BBC Sport: "Kerkez is one of the best left-back prospects in the Premier League." Will Kerkez fit in at Liverpool? Liverpool currently have an established left-back in Andy Robertson, who played in 33 of 38 league games in the 2024-25 31, joined Liverpool from Hull City for £10m in 2017 and has won a raft of major trophies with the club, including a Champions League and two Premier League Robertson trailed Kerkez in key areas like assists, distance covered and possession won in the season just ended and is a target for Atletico Madrid. "If they want that style of full-back, then Kerkez has already shown he can do it in the Premier League," said BBC Radio Solent's Bournemouth commentator Jordan Clarke."He's very self-confident. That's what comes across and what you hear from those in the club. He'll back himself going to a big club."That view is shared by Liverpool fan and podcaster Lukleiva who told BBC Radio Merseyside this month: "Kerkez wouldn't come in and only play half the games."He's one of the breakout stars of the Premier League season. You definitely want Kerkez [to start]."Whether that is something Robertson is willing to side with or whether he'd then want to move on, that's something they need to talk about."Kerkez's arrival will probably signal the end of the road at Anfield for either Robertson or second-choice left-back Konstantinos Kerkez expected to take Robertson's starting slot, will the Scotland international want to look elsewhere for more regular football? From AC Milan to AFC Bournemouth Kerkez was convinced by five-time Champions League winner Maldini to choose AC Milan when he left Hungarian side was given some minutes in pre-season in summer 2021 but always ranked behind Milan's more senior left-backs Theo Hernandez and Fode departed for AZ Alkmaar in January 2022 having never played a competitive match for the Serie A Hungarian told journalist Gianluca di Marzio, external that asking Milan to leave on a permanent basis was "the best decision of my career".The following season Kerkez played in all but one Eredivisie match as AZ finished third, and he helped his side reach the Europa Conference League semi-finals where they lost 3-1 on aggregate to West there he moved to Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee in summer 2023."When Kerkez first arrived, Bournemouth had been looking for a very specific type of attacking full-back, someone who ticked all the boxes," said BBC Radio Solent's Clarke."There was a lot of hype around him joining, the fans were excited. He was a very raw talent and he had a few problems early on playing to Bournemouth's intensity and struggling to get through the full 90 minutes. But you could always see the talent was there."Credit to Bournemouth's coaches, they've developed him into a brilliant attacking left-back who this season has added goals and assists to his game."Defensively too, I can't remember too many times he's been beaten." What's Kerkez like off the pitch? One word: has had a lot of them in the past year, changing his style, and his in November, Justin Kluivert said he had been given the task of cutting his team-mate's the next game, away to Wolves, Kerkez scored one and Kluivert struck a hat-trick."That tells you a little bit about the kind of person he is in the dressing room. The confidence and the positivity he brings," added Clarke."He's a real character. Kluivert and club captain Adam Smith both talked a lot about their friendship with him. Everyone at Bournemouth loved his energy."

Ex-Man Utd star tells £64m target to complete Saudi transfer
Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has encouraged Victor Osimhen to strongly consider a transfer move to the Saudi Pro League this summer. Osimhen is widely considered to be among the most complete centre-forwards in world football, but the attacker's future has been up in the air since his season-long loan spell with Galatasaray came to an end. Though Osimhen still has 12 months remaining on his contract at Napoli, the 26-year-old – who has a £64million release clause – is expected to depart the Serie A champions on a permanent basis ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The likes of United and Arsenal have been heavily linked with Osimhen as they scour the market for attacking reinforcements to boost their squads in preparation for the new season. But the Premier League duo are not alone with their interest, with Al-Hilal putting a 'crazy' contract offer on the table having had an initial proposal turned down by the Nigeria international. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. The mega-rich Saudi outfit also made an unsuccessful bid to sign Osimhen before he joined Galatasaray last September. Given Osimhen would be in line to make £34m-per-year year, and close to £140m over a four-year span, he has the chance to become one of the highest-paid footballers in history. 'It's not easy because agents are calling every day, people talk in the media,' ex-United and Nigeria forward Ighalo told News Central TV of the incessant speculation surrounding his fellow countryman this summer. 'But I think Victor is mentally strong because he has gone through challenges in his life, even at his age, and he has overcome them. 'He knows what he wants. We were together two days ago but we didn't talk about football, it was just for us to have fun. 'But I believe he knows what he wants. He's a grown-up guy now so he has worked hard to be where he is today. 'If he calls me for my opinion, I would tell him. But I think he has done well and whatever decision he makes, it's a win-win for him.' Having experienced the Saudi Pro League himself, Ighalo would strongly urge Osimhen to give the lucrative offer from Al-Hilal some serious thought. 'If he asked me, of course, I would say go,' Ighalo, who played for Al-Shabab, Al-Hilal and Al-Wehda after leaving Old Trafford, added. 'Whatever decision is a win-win for him. If he goes now, if he doesn't go now and he goes after two years, it's still the same. 'It does not matter because last year they came and he did not go. 'They came back this year and they will still come again.' According to Ighalo, it's 'impossible' to have a conversation about the best strikers in the game without mentioning Osimhen. 'For me, in the world today, you can't mention strikers without his name. It's impossible,' he continued. 'We underrate our own, that is the problem in Africa. We underrate our own African players and their potential. 'But if you want to search the world now for a proper goalscorer, tell me two or three. He's a true number nine, a centre-forward, a goalscorer.' Osimhen's namesake, Viktor Gyokeres, has also been linked with the Red Devils this summer on the back of two prolific seasons in front of goal for Sporting. But Gyokeres has reportedly rejected United in favour of a switch to Arsenal and Gary Pallister believes his former club should turn their attentions to 'ideal signing' Alexander Isak. 'He's the player that is proven in the Premier League,' the former United centre-back told Metro on behalf of Gamble Online. 'Listen I'm sure he's got teams in better state than United at the moment who would be in to sign him and Liverpool have reportedly declared interest in him so why wouldn't you go there when they've been as successful as they have been? 'But Isak would be the ideal Man United signing for me. I think it so important that you're proven in the Premier League because it's different to all the other leagues out there. 'If you've got a player who's been there and done it, he would be the man for me. Manchester United definitely need a goalscorer. 'Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both struggled last year. I don't think Zirkzee is an out and out number nine. There's a few clubs struggling for that centre forward.' For more stories like this, check our sport page.
