King, in call with France president, stresses importance of stepping up efforts to reach Gaza ceasefire

Jordan Times9 hours ago
AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah received a phone call from France President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday and stressed the need to step up efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and de-escalate the situation in the West Bank.
His Majesty emphasised the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to all areas of the Strip, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between Jordan and France to step up the humanitarian response in Gaza, according to a Royal Court statement.
The King reiterated Jordan's rejection of Israeli statements regarding the 'Greater Israel' vision, plans to consolidate the occupation of Gaza and expand military control over it, and unilateral measures in the West Bank, including the settlement plan in the (E1) area, the statement said.
His Majesty said the only way to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the region is through the two-state solution, noting the importance of France's intention to recognise the State of Palestine as a step towards providing more support to Palestinians and achieving stability in the region.
The call also touched on other regional developments, including Jordan's role in supporting Syria and Lebanon's efforts to preserve their sovereignty and enhance their stability.

National service is part of wider endeavour to invest in human capital — Momani

AMMAN — The reactivation of the national service programme was driven by HRH Crown Prince Hussein's conviction in the importance of this national project in building a generation of disciplined and loyal young Jordanians, Government Communications Minister Mohammad Momani said on Wednesday. He noted that the programm enjoys the direct follow-up of His Majesty King Abdullah, reflecting the leadership's determination to channel youth energy into a productive force for national development. Speaking on a programme, broadcast by the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army (JAF) Radio, Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, said the government had worked for an entire year to translate this vision into practical steps, restoring national service as a key tool for shaping Jordanian identity and instilling the values of discipline and social responsibility. He stressed that national service is a long-term programme that reflects Jordan's approach to investing in human capital and shaping youth capable of making meaningful contributions to society and the national economy. The programme, he added, will continue under an institutional framework, away from short-term influences, to ensure sustainable impact. The JAF has full responsibility for implementing the programme, overseeing all logistical, administrative, and training aspects to ensure the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, he noted. He said that the programme combines specialised military and field training with interactive cultural and awareness sessions, designed to deepen participants' national consciousness and strengthen their ties with national institutions, foremost among them the army. Momani emphasised that the programme will undergo continuous evaluation, led by the JAF, to measure progress in achieving its goals. Its impact, he said, will gradually be reflected in strengthening young people's sense of commitment and belonging.

Macron Condemns Netanyahu's Accusations as 'Dismal' - Jordan News

French President Emmanuel Macron strongly rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's claims that France's plan to recognize a Palestinian state fuels anti-Semitism, describing the accusations as 'dismal' and 'incorrect.' اضافة اعلان Macron stated, 'The analysis linking France's decision to recognize Palestine with rising anti-Semitic violence in France is wrong and dismal, and will not go unanswered.' His office added that the current period demands seriousness and responsibility, not generalizations or manipulation. Tensions between Israel and its traditional allies have escalated following Macron's pledge last month to recognize Palestine, a stance later adopted by the UK, Canada, and Australia, but strongly opposed by Israel. The strong remarks came after Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese dismissed Netanyahu's similar accusations against him, calling them baseless and politically weak. Netanyahu had written to Macron, claiming anti-Semitism in France had 'increased' since Macron announced his intention to recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly next month, adding, 'Your call for a Palestinian state pours fuel on the fire of anti-Semitism.' France hosts the largest Jewish community in Western Europe, estimated at 500,000 people (about 1% of the population), and has witnessed a rise in anti-Semitic incidents, particularly after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza, including assaults, threats, vandalism, and harassment. The Élysée Palace stressed that violence against the Jewish community is unacceptable, noting that Macron has repeatedly demanded since 2017 – especially after the events of October 7 – that authorities take the strongest possible action against perpetrators. Last week, Israel's El Al airline reported vandalism at its Paris office with anti-Israel graffiti, calling the incident 'deeply troubling.' In a separate event, Macron pledged full efforts to track down those responsible for cutting down an olive tree planted in honor of a French Jew killed in 2006.

Iran Says It Cannot Completely Cut Cooperation with IAEA - Jordan News

Iran's Foreign Minister said Wednesday that the country cannot fully sever cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), following the approval of a law requiring high-level security clearance for any future inspections of its nuclear facilities. اضافة اعلان IAEA inspectors have been unable to access Iranian nuclear sites since they were struck by Israel and the United States during a 12-day conflict in June, despite Director General Rafael Grossi emphasizing that inspections remain necessary. Last month, the Iranian parliament passed legislation suspending cooperation with the IAEA, stipulating that any future inspections must be approved by the Supreme National Security Council in Tehran. The parliamentary move followed accusations that the IAEA had effectively paved the way for the Israeli–U.S. strikes through a report issued on May 31, which led the Agency's Board of Governors to declare Iran in violation of its nonproliferation commitments. Nevertheless, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told state media that Tehran 'cannot completely cut cooperation with the IAEA… therefore there must be inspectors to carry out this task,' without providing further details. The remarks come two days after a Foreign Ministry spokesperson indicated that Iran would continue talks with the IAEA, with a new round of negotiations expected soon. On resuming talks with Washington, Araghchi said negotiations need to 'mature.' The sixth round of talks between Tehran and Washington was halted following the Israeli and U.S. strikes in June.
