Steuben County Habitat for Humanity dedicates renovated home to family
CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) — A Habitat for Humanity house in Steuben County is soon to be a new home for a family in Corning.
The Steuben County Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 40th habitat home to a new family on Ontario Street. It is the second time a family will be staying at the house since the previous habitat family sold it in 2023.

Community Outreach Director for Steuben County Habitat for Humanity Joy Overacker stated that the home underwent renovations in 2024 to the interior and exterior of the property. The additions included a new roof, driveway, heat system, and home appliances that were put together by volunteers during the process.
'They're getting a wonderful home that's safe, has all new everything and we'll last them the rest of their lives. They call these their forever homes,' Overacker said. 'I think that for habitat families, it's a sense of security, it's a sense of independence. They are able to do what they want. It's their home. They're not renting. They don't have to rely on somebody else to fix things.
According to Overacker, a family of two people was selected to be the new owners of the home. She also mentioned that the Steuben County Habitat for Humanity is planning to work on homes in Bath and East Corning this year.

And of course, they have to apply. And there are some requirements there. They also have to put in 500 hours of sweat equity. That doesn't necessarily mean that they have to do it all themselves. Habitat for Humanity invites public to celebrate Davenport home dedication
The public is invited to help celebrate the dedication of Habitat Home #141 on Saturday, June 7, according to a news release. The brief ceremony will take place promptly at 10 a.m. at 1436 W. 8th St., Davenport. Guests can tour the home after the ceremony. This home build has been supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number 21.027 to the State of Iowa by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The referenced award was a result of the American Rescue Plan Act. This was a unique opportunity provided to Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the state of Iowa, thanks to the work of Habitat of Iowa, the state support organization for local affiliates. This is the third home Habitat QC was able to build in Davenport thanks to these funds. Habitat's affordable home-ownership program is a long-term solution to the current affordable housing crisis. Habitat partner families must complete a minimum of 250 volunteer hours of sweat equity and attend mandatory home-ownership preparation classes with the support of a volunteer mentor. When their home build is finished, partner families purchase the home from Habitat with affordable monthly payments on a zero-interest mortgage. Mansfield Borough to hold Community Spring Clean-Up Day
MANSFIELD, Pa. (WETM) – Residents in the borough of Mansfield are invited to come together on Saturday to join in a volunteer effort to help clean up the community. The Mansfield Borough Community Spring Clean-Up Day will take place on Saturday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon. During the event, community members will have the opportunity to help tidy up the community by volunteering to work on the parks, sidewalks and public spaces within the borough. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, rakes, family, friends and a positive attitude.
