Cornish cyclists endure 'challenging conditions' on Alfie Beard memorial ride
Six determined cyclists from Cornwall, including a mechanic of the Lizard lifeboat station, are currently pushing through challenging conditions on a gruelling bike ride from Roscoff, France, to Santander, Spain.
Now, several days into their journey, the team is facing wet weather, injuries, and the physical demands of the ride, all while raising vital funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and honouring the memory of Alfie Beard.

Before his death, Alfie and his father, Fran, had been planning their fundraising cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End for the RNLI.

Fran decided to honour his son's memory by completing the John O' Groats to Land's End ride himself. Inspired by the cause, Fran's brother-in-law, JP Whaley – a senior station technician at The Lizard Lifeboat Station – decided to join him. Their shared commitment saw them complete that challenge and later conquer another ride from St Michael's Mount to Mont Saint-Michel and back.

However, the journey so far hasn't been easy. Recent updates shared on the Beard's Bonkers Bike Ride Facebook page reveal the toll the ride is taking.

After a difficult day three, battling 'troublesome injuries, cycling in wet weather and the grind of necessary daily mileage' which saw morale dip but still resulted in 67 miles covered, the team dug deep. On day four, they achieved an incredible 83 miles, despite persistent rain.
The guys outside Wavecrest at the Lizard (Image: Beard's Bonkers Bike Ride In honour of Alfie Beard) Kimberley Whaley, who has been sharing regular updates, said: 'A whopping 83 miles yesterday in wet weather, not too shabby for blokes who mostly don't even ride bikes regularly.
'A couple of them are also suffering some injuries to muscles and tendons, not to mention the sore butts. I'm so incredibly proud of their grit and determination to keep going despite this, and I know that thoughts of Alfie are helping them drive on and the thought of raising as much as possible for The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station, which JP is so very passionate about.
'Keep going, guys, we are rooting for you, and we love you.'

Notre Dame visited by the sons of three former NFL players
Notre Dame visited by the sons of three former NFL players Fighting Irish could be home to Devin Fitzgerald, Kaydon Finley. Thomas Davis Jr. has already committed However your Father's Day weekend went, it probably looked different than what took place on the Notre Dame campus. The sons of three former NFL players were in South Bend visiting with the Fighting Irish. Wide receivers Devin Fitzgerald and Kaydon Finley joined Notre Dame commit Thomas Davis Jr. on campus. Fitzgerald and Finley are four-star recruits. Devin, of course, is the son of Larry Fitzgerald, who played for the Arizona Cardinals for 17 seasons. Finley is the son of Jermichael Finley, a tight end who played six years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. The senior Davis played 15 seasons over 16 years in the NFL -- he missed the 2010 campaign due to injury. He was with the Carolina Panthers for most of that time, but he also played with the Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Football Team (now Washington Commanders). Perhaps Davis Jr. can convince Devin Fitzgerald and Kaydon Finley to join him in South Bend. Ohio State basketball welcomes in former players to work out with current roster
Ohio State basketball welcomes in former players to work out with current roster One of the great things about being at Ohio State is all of the former athletes who have made it to the pros coming back to mingle and be around the program. And we're not just talking about football, though that's been where most of the traffic has come from through the most recent of years. Don't forget, despite this downturn in the OSU basketball program, the Buckeye hoopsters have a very good tradition themselves as well. You know a head coach really gets it when he invites those who used to don the Scarlet and Gray back to town to interact and work out with the current roster, and Jake Diebler fits that bill. In fact, Monday just so happened to be one of those days when Ohio State welcomed in some of those OSU legends to be a part of Vet camp. The current players got to play with, and be coached by the likes of Greg Oden, D'Angelo Russell, and E.J. Liddell. It was also a chance to see some of the newcomers interact with the current team and former players. Transfers Gabe Cupps, Christoph Tilly, and Brandon Noel were sweating it out alongside freshmen A'mare Bynum and Myles Herro. Germany product Mathieu Grujicic was also there, but things are still being worked out with his eligibility and visa, according to Eleven Warriors, so he was an innocent bystander. Ohio State is looking to get back to the NCAA Tournament after missing out three straight years. There is a good mix of veteran scorers and incoming talent, so the hope is that all of it comes together to make a run and get back to where the program belongs.
