Miriam O'Callaghan to publish her memoir this October
Journalist and broadcaster Miriam O'Callaghan has said she is "really nervous" about telling her life story as she announced the publication of her memoir later this year.
The 65-year-old Dubliner will publish Life, Work Everything with Penguin Books Ireland on 30 October.
In a post on her Instagram account, the Prime Time and Sunday with Miriam presenter said: "So this is happening. I can't actually believe I have written my book. Let's just say it's taken a while, I first got a contract from @penguinbooksireland Sandycove twenty years ago.
"I was always so busy, I still am, but with a prompt from my ace Sandycove editor Patricia Deevy, I decided to do it. If not now, when I thought.
Initially planned as a look back at her journalism career, Miriam soon realised "it was impossible to separate the personal and professional parts of my life".
The memoir will explore key moments from her life and career - from covering elections, referendums and national tragedies on Prime Time, to her family life as a mother of eight.

Saoirse Ronan surprises fans with chilling new role
Saoirse Ronan has taken on a rather unanticipated role, much to the delight of her fans. The legendary group Talking Heads has pulled off quite the celebration for the 50th anniversary of their track Psycho Killer, finally dropping a music video for this timeless classic. Directed by Mike Mills, the fresh visuals feature the talented Irish actress Ronan. Known for her critically acclaimed performance in Brooklyn, Ronan portrays an ordinary worker battling the day-to-day tedium that pushes her to the brink of madness in the video. Throughout the clip, as Ronan performs everyday chores like tooth-brushing and commuting, her demeanour escalates from mundane to increasingly deranged, mirroring the essence of the tune's lyrics. Explaining the inspiration behind the video to Vulture, Mills said, "The last thing you want to do is pin down or reduce what the song is about. The song is so much more than being psychotic or killing," reports the Irish Star. He elaborated on his daunting initial feelings, "At first, I was totally daunted. I was like, 'How the f*** do you make a video for Psycho Killer for my art heroes?' It's impossible. I can't think of that idea, it's too hard. Then, walking down my hallway, the idea came to me in a flash. Saoirse isn't at all a psycho killer or anything. It's the environment and that life and false normality." Mills revealed how easy it was to get the talented 31-year-old Dubliner involved in the music video, as Ronan, a staunch Talking Heads fan, even tied the knot to the sound of their hit This Must Be The Place. The brilliant actress, who has been working on-screen since she was 12, married Scottish actor Jack Lowden last summer, in an intimate ceremony. Talking Heads, with band members now in their 70s, released a statement regarding the fresh take on their song: "This video makes the song better. We LOVE what this video is NOT – it's not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious." The video has already amassed over a million views in just 24 hours, with Ronan's fans stating that the actress' new role was '"worth the wait." The Oscar nominee has not graced the big screen since 2024, when she starred in Steve McQueen's moving drama, The Blitz.

What could Miriam O'Callaghan's memoir mean for future Áras bid?
Could Miriam O'Callaghan's soon-to-be-released memoir be a subliminal signal that she might be tipping her hat into the presidential ring? The popular RTE presenter revealed this week that she has penned a memoir which is poised to hit bookshelves in the early autumn, just ahead of the presidential election. And while current affairs host Miriam has previously ruled herself out of the running, her name is frequently mooted with pundits saying she would be a shoo-in to win the race. Pic: Brian McEvoy The release of her memoir could be a slight indicator that she may be softening on her resolve not to enter the race. Miriam has announced that she will be releasing a memoir in October, admitting that she is 'really nervous' about telling her story. Sharing the news on social media, she wrote: 'At first I planned it to be just about my work as a journalist, but I soon realised it was impossible to separate the personal and professional parts of my life, that's why it's about life, work and everything. Miriam O'Callaghan. Pic: Gareth Chaney/ Collins Photos 'In truth I am really nervous about telling my story, that's probably why it took me so long to write it. All I hope is that people will read it and find it interesting, authentic, entertaining and hopeful.' In fact writing a memoir has, at least in the American and European political sphere, become somewhat de rigueur for election candidates running for office with memoir writing providing an effective campaign tool for presidential hopefuls. Memoir writing has proved an effective campaign tool for presidential hopefuls. In fact the huge success of Barack Obama's Dreams from My Father was considered pivotal in his successful run for the Oval Office. And while Miriam O'Callaghan is already a household name in Ireland, autobiographies offer a deeper insight into personalities and offer readers the chance to know people by their own words and recollections. When contacted this week about a potential change of heart, Miriam was unusually coy. But she has in the past ruled out throwing her hat in the ring for the Presidency.
