Saoirse Ronan surprises fans with chilling new role
The legendary group Talking Heads has pulled off quite the celebration for the 50th anniversary of their track Psycho Killer, finally dropping a music video for this timeless classic. Directed by Mike Mills, the fresh visuals feature the talented Irish actress Ronan.
Known for her critically acclaimed performance in Brooklyn, Ronan portrays an ordinary worker battling the day-to-day tedium that pushes her to the brink of madness in the video.
Throughout the clip, as Ronan performs everyday chores like tooth-brushing and commuting, her demeanour escalates from mundane to increasingly deranged, mirroring the essence of the tune's lyrics.
Explaining the inspiration behind the video to Vulture, Mills said, "The last thing you want to do is pin down or reduce what the song is about. The song is so much more than being psychotic or killing," reports the Irish Star.
He elaborated on his daunting initial feelings, "At first, I was totally daunted. I was like, 'How the f*** do you make a video for Psycho Killer for my art heroes?' It's impossible. I can't think of that idea, it's too hard. Then, walking down my hallway, the idea came to me in a flash. Saoirse isn't at all a psycho killer or anything. It's the environment and that life and false normality."
Mills revealed how easy it was to get the talented 31-year-old Dubliner involved in the music video, as Ronan, a staunch Talking Heads fan, even tied the knot to the sound of their hit This Must Be The Place.
The brilliant actress, who has been working on-screen since she was 12, married Scottish actor Jack Lowden last summer, in an intimate ceremony.
Talking Heads, with band members now in their 70s, released a statement regarding the fresh take on their song: "This video makes the song better. We LOVE what this video is NOT – it's not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious."
The video has already amassed over a million views in just 24 hours, with Ronan's fans stating that the actress' new role was '"worth the wait."
The Oscar nominee has not graced the big screen since 2024, when she starred in Steve McQueen's moving drama, The Blitz.

Kenny received a crystal award and a cheque for €500. The announcement of the winning finalist was made by actor Patrick Bergin (Sleeping With The Enemy), who was chair of the judging panel. There were six finalists on the night of Wednesday, August 20, held in Templeneiry Church, Bansha. A runner up prize, the Mick Tuohy Perpetual Cup, went to the Irish-German-Dutch collaboration of Buddy Sutton, Julius Wandelt and Peter Reinders with their song entitled It's Time for Peace. Kenny Grant is originally from Scotland, now living in Malahide, Co Dublin. Kenny is a previous winner of the Tipperary Song of Peace with A Child in A War in 2014. More recently, he co-wrote five songs for the album Cool to Be Kind by the English band Sunbirds, fronted by singer Dave Hemingway, formerly of The Housemartins and The Beautiful South. Kenny's entry for this year's competition, A Hundred Thousand Welcomes, describes a walk across central Dublin, from Custom House Quay on the River Liffey, where the haunting figures of the Irish Famine Memorial crouch towards the Jeanie Johnson famine ship, to the Grand Canal, where refugees fleeing famine, war and oppression in our own day have set up their makeshift camp. On the same night, the final of the inaugural Darby Ryan International Poetry Contest took place at the same venue. The winner of the contest was Fidelma Nugent from Ballydrehid, Cahir, Co Tipperary, with her poem called The Weave of Home. Fidelma is a musician, poet, and choir director. She is currently undertaking a PhD in music, focusing on Catholicism in the choral works of Olivier Messiaen. Her writing is deeply rooted in a sense of place, community, and memory. As both musician and poet, she is drawn to the rhythm and musicality of language, exploring how poetry and music echo and influence one another. Fidelma received a cheque for €300 from John Grogan, the great, great, great grandson of the late Darby Ryan. There were also six finalists in the poetry contest and second prize went to Julie Ryan, Galbally, Co Limerick, with her poem entitled The Undertaker. Third prize went to Sylvia Greene from Tipperary town with her poem, The Garda and the Car.

Vogue Williams' neighbour 'boiled her own poo' during rent row
Vogue Williams disclosed how her neighbour once 'boiled her own poo' during a rental dispute. The 39-year-old former Fade Street personality revealed she was residing in a flat owned by an ex-partner at the time. Vogue explained that her neighbour had fallen behind with rent payments, prompting her landlord to try and "throw her out" of the property. The woman then chose to take extreme revenge on fellow residents in the building. The Irish TV host made this shocking admission whilst discussing air fresheners on her Vogue and Amber podcast with her sister. She mentioned being reminded of the appalling odour whenever she catches a scent of plug-in air fresheners. Vogue detailed: "I used to love Glade plug-ins but I'll tell you what happened. But there was a woman that lived in this apartment that I lived in, that my ex owned, and she hadn't been paying her rent for a year and basically had to get thrown out. "She was so p****d off about being thrown that out that she boiled her own s**t on the hobs. She put hots on the hobs and boiled her own s**t so the smell of s**t was all around the apartment. Vogue Williams says she was living in a flat owned by her ex at the time "We got it repainted, still smelled of s**t, so we got all of the Glade things over there and now they just remind me of s****y Glade." Their courtship blossomed rapidly, resulting in their wedding less than twelve months later on Spencer's vast 10,000-acre ancestral estate in Scotland.
