Featured pricing is subject to change. It's back 'into the blue again' for David Byrne. Just days after releasing a Saorise Ronan-starring 'Psycho Killer' music video and surprising the Governors Ball crowd in red overalls midway through Olivia Rodrigo's scorching cover of 'Burning Down The House,' the former Talking Heads frontman announced his first album and solo tour in seven years. Starting in September, the 73-year-old Rock Hall of Famer will hit venues all over North America on his 'Who Is The Sky? Tour,' which is named after his new album due out Sept. 5 and features contributions from St. Vincent, Paramore's Hayley Williams, The Smile's drummer Tom Skinner, Ghost Train Orchestra and producer Kid Harpoon. Advertisement While out and about, Byrne has six (!) stops in New York planned. Up first, he'll bring his latest record — his ninth solo studio offering — to Schenectady's Proctors Theatre on Sunday, Sept. 21. After that, the man who made oversized suits cool drops into Syracuse's Landmark Theatre on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and Buffalo's Shea's Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Sept. 25. Finally, the Grammy winner closes his NY run with three shows at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 30, Wednesday, Oct. 1 and Friday, Oct. 10. At all shows, he'll be joined by a 13-member backing band made up of musicians, singers and dancers, some of whom were part of his 'American Utopia' ensemble. Per usual, all 'will be mobile throughout the set.' Advertisement 'I suspected that intimate orchestral arrangements would bring out the emotion I sense is there in these songs [from the forthcoming album],' Byrne said. 'It's something that folks don't always hear in my work, but this time for sure I thought it was there.' Fans Byrners can purchase tickets for all upcoming North American David Byrne shows on sites like Vivid Seats; the official on-sale for the 'Who Is The Sky? Tour' is Friday, June 13. Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand. They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event. Ahead of the record's release, he unveiled the lead single 'Everybody Laughs.' Clocking in at almost four minutes, the track is a joyous, almost tropical tune. Complete with Byrne's trademark staccato vocals and Ghost Train Orchestra's jaunty strings that are a bit reminiscent of George Michael's 'Freedom,' the song fits squarely in Byrne's canon. Talking Heads star David Byrne to play Dublin next year
Former Talking Heads front man David Byrne has announced the release of his new album and a world tour which includes a date in the 3Arena in Dublin next March. Who Is The Sky? Will be released on 5 September and is a collaboration with producer Kid Harpoon and Ghost Train Orchestra and features vocals from Paramore's Hayley Williams, The Smile drummer Tom Skinner, and St. Vincent. The news follows the release of the first official video for Talking Heads classic Psycho Killer starring Irish actress Saoirse Ronan. Byrne has also released Everybody Laughs, the first single from the album and he will play the 3Arena on 13 March 2025 with tickets, priced from €61.85 to €128.25, go on sale this Friday. His touring band will comprise 13 musicians, singers and dancers, including members of the American Utopia band, all of whom will be mobile throughout the set. Who Is the Sky? is Byrne's first new album since 2018's acclaimed American Utopia and was produced by the Grammy-winning Kid Harpoon, who recently worked with Irish band Inhaler and has previously worked with Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus. The 12 songs on the album were arranged by the members of New York-based chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra. Speaking about Everybody Laughs, Byrne said, "Someone I know said, 'David, you use the word "everybody" a lot.' I suppose I do that to give an anthropological view of life in New York as we know it. "Everybody lives, dies, laughs, cries, sleeps and stares at the ceiling. Everybody's wearing everybody else's shoes, which not everybody does, but I have done. "I tried to sing about these things that could be seen as negative in a way balanced by an uplifting feeling from the groove and the melody, especially at the end, when St. Vincent and I are doing a lot of hollering and singing together. Music can do that - hold opposites simultaneously. I realized that when singing with Robyn earlier this year. Her songs are often sad, but the music is joyous." The full track list for Who Is the Sky? is: Everybody Laughs, When We Are Singing, My Apartment Is My Friend, A Door Called No, What Is the Reason for It?, I Met the Buddha at a Downtown Party, Don't Be Like That, The Avant Garde, Moisturizing Thing, I'm an Outsider, She Explains Things to Me, The Truth.

Talking Heads star David Byrne to tour Australia after new album drops
David Byrne will tour Australia in January in support of a new album of music, Who is the Sky?, set for release in September. It will be the first time the former frontman of Talking Heads has played in this country since bringing his acclaimed American Utopia tour here in 2018. As with that tour, the new show will feature a free-roaming band of musicians, singers and dancers, unencumbered by leads and amplifiers and able to roam the stage at will (albeit in highly choreographed fashion). Many of the line-up for this tour also performed in American Utopia, a show that later moved to Broadway and was filmed by Spike Lee for a documentary released in 2020. In recent weeks, 73-year-old Byrne has been teasing some upcoming news on his social media accounts. 'Hi, I'm working on something new and will have more news to share soon,' he said in a video posted on May 30, before offering a glimpse of new audio and typically idiosyncratic dance moves 'in the meantime'. The news of a tour and a new album comes at a busy moment for the prolifically but sporadically creative Byrne. June 5 marked the 50th anniversary of the first gig by Talking Heads at legendary New York City venue CBGB, and to celebrate the occasion a video clip for the band's 1977 single Psycho Killer was released. Directed by indie filmmaker Mike Mills and starring Oscar-winning Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, the clip – the first officially made for the song – appears to depict a woman gradually going through a depressive episode as the repetitive nature of her ordinary life begins to grind her down. Despite the re-release in 2023 of a remastered version of the band's Jonathan Demme-directed concert film Stop Making Sense (to mark its 40th anniversary), rumours of a reunion and tour for the band remain just that, in part because of lingering tension between him and bassist Tina Weymouth.

Saoirse Ronan surprises fans with chilling new role
Saoirse Ronan has taken on a rather unanticipated role, much to the delight of her fans. The legendary group Talking Heads has pulled off quite the celebration for the 50th anniversary of their track Psycho Killer, finally dropping a music video for this timeless classic. Directed by Mike Mills, the fresh visuals feature the talented Irish actress Ronan. Known for her critically acclaimed performance in Brooklyn, Ronan portrays an ordinary worker battling the day-to-day tedium that pushes her to the brink of madness in the video. Throughout the clip, as Ronan performs everyday chores like tooth-brushing and commuting, her demeanour escalates from mundane to increasingly deranged, mirroring the essence of the tune's lyrics. Explaining the inspiration behind the video to Vulture, Mills said, "The last thing you want to do is pin down or reduce what the song is about. The song is so much more than being psychotic or killing," reports the Irish Star. He elaborated on his daunting initial feelings, "At first, I was totally daunted. I was like, 'How the f*** do you make a video for Psycho Killer for my art heroes?' It's impossible. I can't think of that idea, it's too hard. Then, walking down my hallway, the idea came to me in a flash. Saoirse isn't at all a psycho killer or anything. It's the environment and that life and false normality." Mills revealed how easy it was to get the talented 31-year-old Dubliner involved in the music video, as Ronan, a staunch Talking Heads fan, even tied the knot to the sound of their hit This Must Be The Place. The brilliant actress, who has been working on-screen since she was 12, married Scottish actor Jack Lowden last summer, in an intimate ceremony. Talking Heads, with band members now in their 70s, released a statement regarding the fresh take on their song: "This video makes the song better. We LOVE what this video is NOT – it's not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious." The video has already amassed over a million views in just 24 hours, with Ronan's fans stating that the actress' new role was '"worth the wait." The Oscar nominee has not graced the big screen since 2024, when she starred in Steve McQueen's moving drama, The Blitz.
