Authorities arrest alleged associate of man suspected in deaths of 4 in Tennessee
Tanaka Brown, 29, was arrested and jailed Friday. He has been charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.
Brown is being held without bond in Lake County Jail, the bureau said.
He is accused of helping Austin Robert Drummond, 28, who remained at large Saturday night. Authorities have been searching for Drummond in connection with the deaths of four people Tuesday in Tiptonville.
The four bodies were discovered after an infant was found abandoned in a car seat in Dyer County, setting off a scramble to find the baby's guardians, Stephen Sutton, a spokesperson for the sheriff's offices in Lake and Dyer counties, said at a Friday news conference.
'The baby is safe and is being cared for,' Sutton said.
Drummond has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, possession of a gun during a dangerous felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Suspect Austin Drummond. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
Drummond was out on bond when the killings took place, Danny Goodman, district attorney for Dyer and Lake counties, said Friday.
He had been released on bond related to an incident that allegedly took place in prison, where he was serving time for aggravated robbery, Goodman said.
It's not clear whether Brown or Drummond have retained legal counsel. The public defender's office for the judicial district that covers Lake and Dyer counties was not available to provide information late Saturday.
Drummond is described as armed and dangerous, and anyone who spots him was asked to call 911.
'Getting Austin Drummond in custody is a priority,' the U.S. Marshals Service said.
Two vehicles associated with Drummond have been found, authorities said. A white 1988 Ford pickup with red side panels was located in Dyer County on Saturday, and authorities are asking anyone with security video of the truck to send it to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Drummond's white 2016 Audi A3 was found abandoned Friday in Jackson, about 74 miles southeast of Tiptonville, the bureau said.
He is believed to still be in the Jackson area, bureau Director David B. Rausch said Friday.
'This incident has this community on edge,' Rausch said.
Jackson is about 87 miles northeast of Memphis.
Authorities have previously identified the victims as Matthew Wilson, 21, the abandoned child's father; Adrianna Williams, 20, the mother; Cortney Rose, 38, the maternal grandmother; and Braydon Williams, 15, the maternal uncle.
Authorities haven't said how they died but have described their deaths as the result of murder.
'There is a familial relationship between the suspect and the family,' Rausch said.
A relative of the victims said Thursday in a Facebook post that the suspect has 'literally been nothing short of amazing to us and our kids.' According to the post, Drummond previously dated a sister of Rose.
Rausch said the suspect showed a sign of compassion — dropping the child off — so "there is hope for him to be able to come in and have a conversation about what happened.'

Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The Montana manhunt is growing for a former U.S. Army soldier on the run five days after he allegedly shot and killed four at a local bar in the southwest part of the state. Authorities say there has been no confirmed sightings of Michael Paul Brown, 45, after he allegedly opened fire Friday morning at Owl Bar in Anaconda, which is the county seat in the small Montana city of roughly 9,000 citizens. He is believed to be on foot in the mountains just west of Anaconda, the Billings Gazette in Montana reported on Tuesday. Montana authorities found his Ford F-150 pickup truck around Saturday after the shooting roughly 80 miles southwest of the state capital in Helena. A weeklong search that began with the abandonment of an infant has ended with the capture of the 28-year-old suspect charged in the killings. Austin Drummond, the 28-year-old accused of killing four people and abandoning an infant in Tennessee, was taken into custody Tuesday, ending a weeklong manhunt that kept the state on edge. 'Fugitive Austin Drummond is now in law enforcement custody, after having been caught in Jackson,' the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced in a Facebook post early Tuesday. 'We'll provide more details soon, but a hearty thanks to the public for staying vigilant these past few days.' The announcement included a photo of a clean-shaven Drummond in a wooded area moments after he was taken into custody, the agency said in a post on X. A second photo, posted by the Jackson Police Department, showed Drummond with his hands behind his back, being held by two officers. An hour earlier, police said he had been spotted in a residential area of Jackson, Tenn., and asked residents to shelter in place and keep their doors and windows locked. Drummond was wanted in the deaths of James Matthew Wilson, 21; Adriana Williams, 20; Cortney Rose, 38; and Braydon Williams, 15. How the manhunt unfolded The search for Drummond began July 29, when police said an infant was found in a car seat in 'a random individual's front yard' in Dyer County near Tigrett. A witness reported seeing a vehicle drop off the child in the person's front yard. Authorities were able to identify the infant, and police initially sought to speak with Wilson and Adriana Williams, who were the infant's parents, and Rose, the infant's maternal grandmother. Their bodies, along with that of Braydon Williams, were discovered the same day along a road in Tiptonville in Lake County. On July 31, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an alert asking the public for help in finding Drummond, who was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping. William Brown was sentenced to 110 years in prison in 2002 for the stabbing death of another man in Anaconda, Montana, which stemmed from an argument over a relationship, according to KBZK. The first 100 years of the sentence were handed down for the murder, and the other 10 for the use of a deadly weapon during the crime.
