Extortion demand by man
Khagaria: One Diwakar Yadav, a native of Shishwa village under Gogri police station area in Khagaria district, on Friday lodged an FIR against one Pandav Yadav, a co-villager, accusing him of demanding Rs 5 lakh as extortion amount and threatening to kill him if he failed to pay the amount.
SHO Ajit Kumar said the matter was being investigated.

‘Custodial torture naked violation of human dignity': Delhi Court cites '97 SC verdict, orders FIR against cops
A Delhi court recently ordered the registration of an FIR against police officers of the Shahbad Dairy police station in a custodial torture case. 'As per the allegations, victim Naveen @ Monu was tortured by the accused police officials for the purpose of committing extortion. In view of the seriousness and gravity of the allegations, a thorough investigation is required to unearth the exact role played by the accused police officials in the commission of the alleged offences,' said Additional Sessions Judge Jagmohan Singh of Rohini Court on May 21. 'Two enquiries conducted by higher police officials into the present allegations found that allegations of custodial torture upon Naveen during police custody could not be ruled out,' the court noted. The court was hearing a revision plea moved by a woman, Meenakshi, against an August 2019 magistrate court order, which had denied lodging and an FIR against the police officials for torturing her husband, Naveen. The Sessions Court also cited a 1997 Supreme Court verdict, which stated that 'custodial torture is a naked violation of human dignity and degradation which destroys, to a very large extent, the individual personality. It is a calculated assault on human dignity, and whenever human dignity is wounded, civilisation takes a step backward.' While setting aside the 2019 order, the Sessions Court directed the SHO to file an FIR against the station's chowki in charge, investigating officer, head constable, and two other persons within a week of the order. As per the original complaint, on April 3, 2018, two groups were involved in a scuffle at Naya bans, Khera Kurd in Delhi. Cross complaints were registered from both sides, and Naveen was allegedly falsely implicated in the cases. The complaint further alleged that three days later, Naveen was picked up by the accused police officials. Meenakshi alleged that her husband was 'physically and mentally tortured' by the accused and that a demand was Rs 5 lakhs was made to release him. '…the CCTV footage (in the case) as well as the call detail record need to be analysed in a government forensic lab, which is beyond the reach of the complainant as well as the victim. It has also to be kept in mind that in the present case, the complainant as well as the victim are ordinary citizens while the accused are all police officials,' ASJ Singh said.

Seven held for cow smuggling, two more nabbed in separate case
: In a joint operation carried out by the Naini Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Trans Yamuna on the eve of Id-ul-Zuha, a gang involved in cow smuggling was busted on Friday. Police arrested seven people, including five men and two women. The team recovered heads of 15 calves, 11 cattle, one loader truck, two scooters, and several tools used in the crime. The arrested have been identified as Mohd Asif, Mohd Salim, Yasif alias Hasib, Mohd Adil, Shabiha alias Shamima, Arsala (daughter of Mohd Ibrahim) all from Pura Fateh Mohammad locality under Naini police station and Mohd Sameer from Konar village in Prayagraj. Police also found a large quantity of meat, 13 knives, four iron choppers, one axe with an iron rod, 23 ropes, one weighing machine, and wooden logs believed to be used for chopping meat. Based on the arrests and items recovered, a case was filed at Naini police station under sections 3, 5A, and 8 of the UP cow slaughter prevention act and section 11 of the Animal Cruelty Act. Two arrested with cattle In another case on Friday, Kydganj police arrested two people transporting seven calves in a mini truck for suspected slaughter. The arrested were identified as Ajay Kumar, the truck driver, and his helper, Mohd Rehan. According to Sanjay Singh, station house officer of Kydganj police station, the truck was stopped during routine checking near the Parade Ground area. On inspection, seven calves were found in the vehicle. The two men told police they had brought the animals from Sahason for sacrifice on Eid-ul-Zuha.

Delhi police conducts vehicle checking, patrolling ahead of Eid al Adha
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Delhi police conducted vehicle checking in some parts of the city ahead of Eid-Al-Adha, which will be celebrated on Saturday, to create a sense of security among people and appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony. Intensified checks were conducted in the Kartavya Path area, where police personnel were seen stopping and inspecting vehicles during routine patrols. Similarly, the police carried out security checks at the Yusuf Sarai area, the Ranjit Singh flyover, and the Nelson Mandela Marg. The police have been taking proactive steps and comprehensive security measures to maintain communal harmony and ensure peaceful celebrations of Bakra Eid on June 7. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Ankit Chauhan, spoke to ANI and said, 'Tonight we are conducting a general patrolling. We have deployed around 50 pickets in the south district. Security personnel, including the senior officials, are on the field. We are focusing on the suspicious people, we are detaining action is being taken. In view of Bakrid, we will keep deployment early in the morning.' Speaking to ANI on Friday, Joint Commissioner of Police, Southern Range, Sanjay Kumar Jain said, 'We are doing general checking. It is the weekend, and tomorrow is Bakrid; We are doing extra patrolling and vehicle checking. The aim of checking is to create a sense of security among people... We appeal to all to maintain peace and harmony. We all should maintain brotherhood and celebrate the festival.' The security measures are part of broader efforts to prevent any untoward incidents during the Bakra Eid festival. Officials have been instructed to remain vigilant and conduct thorough inspections while ensuring minimal inconvenience to commuters. Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), New Delhi, Devesh said, 'In New Delhi, 80 two-wheelers are on patrol, and 48 pickets have been established... For Eid, we have a strong presence where there may be a possibility of any chaos... We also did street meetings. We appeal to everyone that the animal sacrifice may be done in closed premises and not in the open...' Additional DCP South West District, Aishwarya Singh, also spoke to ANI and said, 'General patrolling is being conducted from 9 pm to 12 am. Habitual criminals are also being rounded up. Hotels and guest houses are also being checked...' The holy festival of Eid al-Adha, also known as the 'festival of sacrifice' or Greater Eid, is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic or lunar calendar. Eid al-Adha is the second Islamic festival of the year and follows Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. The date changes every year, as it's based on the Islamic lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Western 365-day Gregorian calendar. It is celebrated as a commemoration of Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice everything for God. Eid al-Adha is called Id-ul-Adha in Arabic and Bakr-Id in the Indian subcontinent, because of the tradition of sacrificing a goat or 'bakri'. It is a festival that is celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in India. (ANI)
