113 Projects Under 12MP Valued At RM1.8 Bln Completed In Perlis
KANGAR, April 22 (Bernama) -- A total of 113 projects valued at RM1.8 billion have been completed in Perlis under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), according to data from MyProjek as of March 25.
The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, said that he has also received news that the state government is focusing on religious programmes by building and renovating five mosques across Perlis using allocations from 12MP.
'As we are aware, 2025 is the final year of 12MP, to be followed by new aspirations under 13MP, which will commence in 2026 and continue until 2030.
'For 13MP, the state government has submitted 61 project proposals with a total value of RM3.3 billion under various ministries.
'The requested projects align with existing policies that support the welfare and needs of the people as well as the common good,' he said during the official opening of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly session here today.
Also present were the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid; Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail; and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
Syed Sirajuddin expressed confidence that the construction and operation of Sanglang Port will take place during the 13MP, a development that will bring about a more progressive economic sector in Perlis in the coming years.
Furthermore, the Raja of Perlis urged the state assembly members to continue assisting the state government in intensifying promotion efforts to attract investors to the state through close collaboration with federal investment agencies.
'Specifically, MITI (Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry), MIDA (Malaysian Investment Development Authority), SME Corp (SME Corporation Malaysia), and cooperation with other state governments. Project development through Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) can also be explored more thoroughly if it promises worthwhile returns for the state,' he added.

Ringgit likely to trade within RM4.22-RM4.23 against greenback next week
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit is likely to trade around RM4.22 to RM4.23 next week, said an analyst. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said that next week multiple United States (US) economic data will be out, namely the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) for the month of May which plays a key role in shaping the market. However, it depreciated versus the euro to 4.8268/8371 at Friday's close from 4.8169/8254 at the end of last week. The ringgit traded mostly higher against ASEAN currencies. The local note improved against the Singapore dollar to 3.2862/2934 on Friday from 3.2938/3002 the previous week, edged higher versus the Indonesian rupiah to 259.5/260.2 from 260.4/261.1 and stronger vis-a-vis the Philippine peso to 7.58/7.60 from 7.62/7.64 a week before, However, it weakened versus the Thai baht to 12.9599/9947 from 12.9507/9790 last week. - Bernama

Indonesia's FM calls for stronger Asean mechanisms after Vision 2045 adoption
JAKARTA/MANILA (Bernama): Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono has called for strengthening Asean's institutional mechanisms, including its diplomatic corps and central bodies, to effectively implement the Asean Community Vision 2045 adopted at last month's summit in Kuala Lumpur. At a meeting with the Committee of Permanent Representatives to Asean (CPR) and Timor-Leste's Ambassador to Asean at the Foreign Ministry here, he praised the progress achieved through Asean's cooperation frameworks, especially after the adoption of the Asean Community Vision (ACV) 2045. He said the long-term vision, adopted at the 46th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur last month, outlines a strategic roadmap for the next two decades, envisaging a resilient, innovative, dynamic and people-centred Asean. "We need to strengthen Asean mechanisms, including the CPR, and bolster the Asean Secretariat and Asean Headquarters in Jakarta to optimise our potential in addressing challenges within the region and globally,' he said. Sugiono also underscored the CPR's role in fostering community building, facilitating cross-pillar coordination, and engaging with Asean's external partners, as it is essential to achieving the goals of ACV. New Lao-Thai friendship bridge to enhance trade and connectivity, say top officials
Image from The Nation Thailand/Asia News Network VIENTIANE (Bernama-Xinhua): The fifth Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge, linking Bolikhamxay province in Laos to Thailand's northeastern province of Bueng Kan, is set to open in December 2025, enhancing regional and international connectivity while fostering trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.. A concrete-pouring ceremony of the fifth Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge was held on Friday in Bolikhamxay province, attended by Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit, and officials from both countries. The project is an important part of Lao's sustainable growth plan and will help the country improve infrastructure and become better connected regionally and internationally, according to a Lao Economic Daily report on Saturday. The 1,350-metre bridge marks a major step in bilateral cooperation, with 98.4 per cent of construction on the Lao side and all approach roads and immigration facilities completed. The bridge is expected to cut travel time between the two provinces by up to three hours, boosting trade and tourism.
