A sluggish weather system is lingering over the Northeast, making things pretty gloomy with lots of clouds, drizzle, and light rain lasting into tonight! It's slowly starting to move east and will drift toward the Canadian Maritimes over the weekend. As that happens, today's steady rain will ease up, turning into more scattered showers on Saturday and becoming even less frequent by Sunday.
This weekend, you can expect hit-or-miss showers, mostly during the afternoons when things warm up a bit. If you're south of Lake Ontario, there's even a small chance you could hear a rumble of thunder. Things start drying out Sunday night into Monday as high pressure begins to build.
Memorial Day is looking like the best day of the bunch—mostly dry, a little warmer, and overall a solid choice for any outdoor plans. After that, though, another system could head in from the Midwest, possibly bringing more rain starting Tuesday night or Wednesday and lingering into the middle of the week.

Warmer and brighter looking day tomorrow
The Latest from Storm Team 5… Clouds have held steady out there this afternoon, but I am expecting some late day rays of sunshine as clouds are starting to depart. For tonight, expect mostly clear skies with temperatures falling into the upper 50s and low 60s. A weak trough passing through Lake Superior might bring a passing shower late in the overnight up north. Great viewing conditions for the Full Strawberry Moon tonight. We will begin Wednesday with sunshine, however clouds roll in from the west during the afternoon. Highs will reach the upper 70s and low 80s. That weak trough may kick some early gusts to 30mph. A batch of wildfire smoke will move in for the afternoon as well. Current forecast calls for us to stay in the moderate category, but the WI DNR is monitoring for a possible upgrade and issuance of an advisory. Scattered showers arrive overnight Wednesday into Thursday along a stationary boundary setting up to our south. The focus of the rain for Thursday will be areas south of Oshkosh, with most staying dry. Highs Thursday will reach the low 70s. This boundary will move north overnight Thursday into Friday. I am expecting Friday to be our best chance to see rain this week, and its looking at being a washout as well. Highs will fall into the mid 60s. How the recent rainfall is impacting crops
WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — While many Central Texans may prefer clear skies and sunshine, the recent stretch of rainfall is being welcomed by farmers across the region. After a prolonged period of heat, steady rain has helped replenish soil moisture and revive pastures that had been without adequate water for months. 'We were so dry June to about the 1st of April this year, where we were really, really behind,' said Shane McLellan, an extension agent for agriculture in McLennan County. 'We were about half of what our normal rainfall is for that same time period, and now we're past that. We're catching up on some missed rain.' According to McLellan, the timing of the recent rainfall has also worked in farmers' favor. 'It's coming at a time of year when it's probably the least destructive—excessive rainfall anyway,' he said. For retired farmer and rancher Michael Moon, monitoring rainfall is still part of his daily routine. Moon uses a digital mapping tool to track precipitation across seven different farms and pastures. 'It gives me up-to-date and real-time information on the amount of rain we're getting at each farm.' Moon said the rain has been mostly beneficial, with only minor concerns about standing water in low-lying areas. 'The only thing that I can see that it might hurt is some low ground that might stand water,' Moon said. 'But for the most part, it's going to be very good.' While this rainfall may cause short-term inconvenience for some, it's proving to be a much-needed resource for farmers hoping to rebound from last year's dry spell and prepare for a stronger growing season. Smith County road closed due to culvert washout, heavy rain
SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — A portion of Smith County Road 2173 off Paluxy and southwest of Whitehouse is expected to be shut down for about a month due to a culvert washout. Texarkana K9 helps capture escaped inmate in woods, officials say According to Smith County officials, Smith County Road 2173, also known as Carl Dowdy Road, has been closed because of a pipe issue. A culvert washout damaged the structure under the road because of heavy rains. The road will remain closed until the pipes come in and can be replaced.
