Apple's more immersive CarPlay is dividing the auto industry
Apple's next-generation CarPlay is splitting the auto world down the middle. Several automakers are eagerly lining up to adopt the newly immersive CarPlay Ultra, which takes over more screens and includes embedded vehicle features like speedometers, heating and cooling, and radio functions. Others are flatly refusing to allow it, while the rest are taking a wait-and-see approach.
All this comes courtesy of a report in the Financial Times, which previews Apple's rough road ahead as it pushes adoption for its splashy, more demanding phone projection system. As The Verge reported back in 2022, when Apple first revealed its more expansive CarPlay, most automakers were hesitant to commit to letting CarPlay gobble up all the screens in their cars. And unsurprisingly many are still wary of handing over too much real estate to the tech giant.
Here's where each of the automakers currently stands on CarPlay Ultra:

CarPlay Ultra is a huge challenge for the auto industry. Multiple surveys show that customers love it, frequently use it over their car's embedded systems, and would be less likely to buy a future vehicle that didn't allow CarPlay. But automakers are spending huge sums of money on developing next-generation software systems that allow over-the-air updates and address their customers' appetite for more digital services. And they're reluctant to just let Apple slap their own software on top of that.
Sources tell the Financial Times that automakers are eager to set clear standards about data sharing with Apple before agreeing to allow CarPlay Ultra.

The card was originally found by Joey Carrion, the owner of a sports card store in New York. He reportedly pulled the card in a box that costed $36. Advertisement Serena Williams' husband and founder of Reddit - and long-time Commanders fan - had put a bounty on the card worth $200K, but it was sold to Florida-based store Rothcards, who then sold it to Harris on Sunday. Just like any investment, Daniels' performance will continue to shoot the price for the rare card through the roof. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury can't say enough good things about the new cornerstone of the Commanders franchise. He's excited to watch Daniels' develop even more this season. "You can see the comfort level was there this year," Kingsbury said earlier this offseason. "I mean, just watching him move around, he's not thinking as much, he's playing fast and letting his natural gifts kind of take over, and that's what we want to see. So, I expect him to take a big jump." Advertisement Last year as a rookie, Daniels amassed nearly 4,500 all-purpose yards and 31 total touchdowns. In just two years since purchasing the franchise, Harris - who has a $10 billion net worth, according to Forbes - has orchestrated one of the best turnarounds in sports. He now takes ownership of one of the most valuable pieces of NFL memorabilia on the market. We get the indication that if Daniels keeps this pace throughout his career, his true value to the Commanders organization will be infinitely greater than his trading card ever was. Mediator In Trump's CBS Lawsuit Proposes $20 Million Settlement
The mediator in President Donald Trump's lawsuit against CBS and 60 Minutes has proposed a settlement worth $20 million, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal, just days after court documents filed by the network called the action 'meritless' and an attack on the First Amendment. The proposal is said to include a $17 million donation to Trump's presidential foundation or museum and $3 million in legal fees and public service announcements on Paramount Global-owned networks to fight antisemitism, the WSJ said, citing people familiar with the situation. The situation is still fluid. Most recently, the Trump team had had asked CBS for a $25 million settlement and an apology. It's not clear if a mea culpa is part of the latest proposal.
