Glamorous cricket commentator Grace Hayden kicks off her new career with a VERY risque revelation about her legendary dad stripping naked on a tour

Daily Mail22-07-2025
Cricket commentator Grace Hayden has been taking the broadcasting world by storm and has just embarked on her latest venture.
She is the daughter of legendary Australian cricket superstar, Matthew Hayden, and has spent the last year working for Star Sports on their coverage of the Indian Premier League, Channel 7's horse racing and the GT20 in Canada.
The 23-year-old has now made her podcasting debut, launching her own series on Willow TV, entitled Game On with Grace Hayden, and welcomed a very special guest for the first episode.
She was joined by her dad's old team-mate and fellow Aussie cricket legend Adam Gilchrist, with the pair going on to recount some of the wicketkeeper's greatest and funniest stories from his time playing with the Test side between 1999 and 2008.
And it is no surprise that Hayden's dad, Matthew, featured in one of Gilly's funniest stories, a yarn that Grace later admitted her mother hates.
The Aussie Test side had just won a match in Cape Town in South Africa. They had gone into the dressing room to perform the customary team song. But things escalated as Gilchrist admitted that the team decided to 'take things off-piste'.
Hayden has been taking the broadcasting world by storm and has just embarked on her latest venture
'We ended up going off to the cable car in Cape Town, up to Table Mountain,' Gilchrist explained to the Game On with Grace Hayden podcast.
'Some [players] were in the cable car, others were on the roof of the cable car, which OH&S wouldn't have a great time with.
Asked who got on top of the car, Gilly revealed: 'Well, one M. Hayden was on top of there and not only that, but he decided to drop a nude bomb.
'So he's basically stark naked with an Aussie flag draping around his neck.
'So, think Leonardo DiCaprio at the front of the Titanic... That was his 'king of the world' type moment.'
Speaking to Perth Now, Grace revealed another funny aspect of the story.
'Mum absolutely despises that,' she told the outlet. 'She was pregnant with the youngest back at home. But honestly, what goes on on tour, I think, should stay behind closed doors.
'Thank goodness there were no cell phones and video footage of that one,' she joked.
Grace spoke affectionately of her father, one of the Australian cricket team's great larrikins.
While many remember his sensational and ruthless ability to slog cricket balls with the bat, Grace admits her dad has a softer side.
'Obviously, he didn't have that reputation back on the cricket pitch, but anyone who knows him now, he's just a big, soft teddy bear,' she explained to Perth Now.
The emerging Aussie presenter explained to the outlet that her new podcast hopes to take a deep dive behind the scenes at the lives of much loved and revered Australian athletes.
'Obviously, we see the records, we see them at their highest. But getting to know them off the field or off the court, and just having a chat and a space to have heart-to-heart conversations and have a laugh, tell some untold stories,' she added.
The glamorous TV presenter also has an eye for fashion, but admitted that she and her dad don't quite agree when it comes to his outfit choices.
Matthew is known for sporting his now iconic cowboy hat when he makes an appearance on TV.
And that is the one thing Grace says they can agree on.
Hayden landed one of the biggest breaks of her budding TV career this year, working as a presenter for Star Sports' coverage of the Indian Premier League
'Fashion isn't the thing that we see eye to eye on,' she said.
'I actually like the big hat on Dad. I think it suits him.'
During the podcast, Gilchrist also praised that group of players, not only for talent, but for the bond they all shared during those long tours.
'That was a team that knew they had something unique by way of skill level and achievement. But maintained a sense of humour throughout,' he added.
He also revealed a touching story about how he arrived later than the rest of the squad at the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the Carribbean. He had flown out after having become a dad but admitted he was 'pretty flat' having to leave his partner and the baby behind.
'I was starting to question [whether] I should be there. The first night I found a quiet little beach bar, I had a beer, and as you do, you celebrate your little stogie. But I took a companion with me and that happened to be your old man,' he told Grace.
'Of course,' she replied.
'We've all celebrated all our children pretty well,' Gilchrist added. 'But moments like that, just sitting and talking.
She has recently been spending time in Italy on vacation with her boyfriend Wilson Statham (right) and several other friends
'I ended up in tears about how emotional I was. Just leaning on those around you.
'The next night I went and did the same. He came again. And then the next night, until the point where John Buchanan said: 'Righto, Gilly come here. Are you ready to get into this World Cup now?' And I think I asked him for one more night.'
He revealed they got their extra night out, but he added he 'wasn't the one lone ranger. I think everyone came along and we had a nice blowout'.

New mum Madeline Holtznagel seen for the first time in weeks as she completes workout - just hours before boyfriend Justin Hemmes' shock restaurant closure

Madeline Holtznagel is staying fit after giving birth to her newborn son Jaeger. The model, 28, was seen for the first time in weeks on Tuesday as she completed a fitness class with Sydney Pilates queen Bernadette Fahey. In an Instagram video, Madeline lay on a mat alongside chicken heir Johnny Ingham's wife Rey Vakili while their newborn babies slept nearby. In a second video, Madeline completed a series of exercises with a resistance band around her ankles while Bernadette held baby Jaeger. The workout came just hours before the model attended the closure of her boyfriend Justin Hemmes' restaurant in Manly. The billionaire pub baron closed his Queen Chow restaurant at Manly Wharf on Tuesday as part of a redevelopment of the wharf area. He posted a tribute to his staff and thanked his customers on Instagram following the venue's closure. 'And that's a wrap.... 12 wonderful wonderful years. Thank you to all our incredibly loyal, supportive and just plain fabulous customers,' he wrote. 'And to all our remarkable staff that have graced both the kitchen and the floor and treated our guests to the merivale magic... Thank you!! I'm going to miss this wonderful place.' Justin also posted a photo of Madeline with baby Jaeger enjoying a meal at the high-end restaurant. Madeline announced the birth of their son on Instagram on June 15 alongside a gallery of sweet photos. 'Jaeger Justin Hemmes 1.06.25,' she captioned the post, which has received over 3,000 likes since being posted. This is the model's first child with the billionaire Merivale owner. He shares two daughters - Alexa, nine, and Saachi, seven - with his ex-partner Kate Fowler. The sweet photo dump included an array of snaps showing the couple's newborn baby wrapped up in a blanket. One picture showed the new mum proudly holding her first child as she donned a matching pink pyjama set. She was positively glowing as she beamed at the camera while her precious newborn wore a smile on his face. Another picture showed Justin and Madeline looking windswept and content as they enjoyed a beach walk with their little one. One adorable snap showed Justin leaning down to kiss baby Jaeger, who was tucked into his jumper to keep warm during the windy outing.

We're back tomorrow with another double-header as Manchester Orignals take on Southern Brave - the women's match starts at 15:00 BST with the men's game at 18:30. We'll see you then. Update: Date: 21:09 BST Title: Post Content: Steven FinnFormer England fast bowler on BBC Two What makes Rashid Khan challenging to face is the pace that he bowls at. He is always on you much quicker than you think. You try to get yourself into a position to prepare but he was all over everyone today. The ball is so flat and quick out of his hand, and many batters struggled to pick him up. Update: Date: 21:08 BST Title: 'An honour to play for this team' Content: Oval Invincibles leg-spin bowler Rashid Khan: "Really happy with the performance today. I have had a long break from cricket but I am really happy with how today went." On his bowling skills: "It is always important to bring fresh skills. You have to hit the right area consistently and that was always in my mind." On playing for the Invincibles: "It is an honour to play for this team. They are the reigning champions two years in a row. I am looking forward to this whole experience and making it three in a row. "You do enjoy it when someone doesn't pick you well and bowling different deliveries. I just focus on hitting the right area back-to-back." Update: Date: 21:06 BST Title: Post Content: Kieran ParmleyCricviz analyst Only one men's Hundred match has had zero sixes - Originals vs Phoenix in 2021. The guys bowled well. Having Rashid Khan on our side is special, he is the best in the world. On his performance: "The wicket was changing. I added some change ups to my game. The batters keep coming so you have to try something funky. There are guys I target, and guys I definitely won't be targeting those to! Being in an environment where you can experiment is fun and so important. On the importance of a win: "It is huge. It is a tournament where if you lose early, it is hard to catch up. We thought about net run-rate as well. We don't look too far ahead and we will go again on Saturday." Update: Date: 20:59 BST Title: Post Content: Kieran ParmleyCricviz analyst In Hundred Men's history, only one bowler has bowled their full quota and returned more economical figures in a defeat than Liam Dawson's figures of 2-9 today. Adam Milne registered 2-8 vs Southern Brave back in 2021. Update: Date: 20:58 BST Title: 'We did what we needed' Content: Oval Invincible batter Will Jacks speaking after his team's victory: "A brilliant start. We weren't sure what to expect. I'm not sure how to sum the game up but we did what we needed. On the wicket: "It wasn't bouncing like I expected. We figured that early, which is something we do well as a team, we communicate. On the halfway team talk: "Some of the guys wanted to smash it for net run-rate but I wanted to look after the game first. Once we got through the first 25 balls we felt in control. On Rashid Khan's performance: "Hopefully that is just a normal day for him. We are really looking forward to having him in our team." Update: Date: 35 balls left Title: Invincibles 69-4 Content: 12 runs needed South African batter Donovan Ferreira is the next man in. He takes two out in mid-wicket, then takes a single to long-off. Update: Date: 20:46 BST Title: Post Content: Steven FinnFormer England fast bowler on BBC Two That ball bounced so low. Curran was looking to hack it across the line but didn't manage to make any contact. Generally, these Invincible players understand the pitches, whereas the London Spirit players may take a little bit more time to read them. Update: Date: 38 balls left Title: WICKET Content: S Curran b Turner 14 (Inv 66-4) Four and out! Australian spinner Ashton Turner comes on to bowl and Sam Curran launches him for a one-bounce four through long-on. He tries to hack across the line from the following delivery, but is bowled by a delivery that keeps low. Update: Date: 40 balls left Title: Invincibles 62-3 Content: 19 runs needed In comes Sam Billings for the Invincibles and the captain almost gets out immediately, just squeezing his shot past Keaton Jennings at cover and taking a single. Update: Date: 42 balls left Title: WICKET Content: Cox b Worrall 5 (Inv 60-3) Tries the ramp, ends up with his stumps splayed! Jordan Cox, on five from eight deliveries, perhaps realises he's running out of time to have some fun and tries an elaborate lift off Dan Worrall. He doesn't get hold of it and the ball heads straight on to the stumps. Earlier in the set Sam Curran had found the boundary, clearing mid-on. Update: Date: 45 balls left Title: Invincibles 55-2 Content: 26 runs needed Sam Curran comes in at number four, no doubt hoping to finish the job for Invincibles fairly swiftly. The left-hander lashes Dawson through the covers for four, before the Spirit spinner ends his set with a dot ball. That's Dawson done for the evening, finishing with figures of 2-9 from his 20 deliveries. Update: Date: 20:36 BST Title: Post Content: Steven FinnFormer England fast bowler on BBC Two Fantastic display of bowling from Liam Dawson. He varies his pace and doesn't let his batter get set. He has gone up the salaries this year too. Update: Date: 49 balls left Title: WICKET Content: Jacks c Jennings b Dawson 24 (Inv 51-2) A second wicket for Liam Dawson! Will Jacks tries to work the Spirit spinner into the off side and finds Keaton Jennings at backward point. Jennings drops into a long barrier and takes the ball just above the turf. Update: Date: 20:35 BST Title: Post Content: Ravi BoparaFormer England all-rounder on BBC Two A lot of the London Spirit players are good square of the wicket. So the recruiting is done with the fact that the boundaries at Lord's are shorter in mind. But it can become a problem at other grounds. You have to have a balance. This is where Invincibles have nailed their batting line-up, they have a mix of everything. Update: Date: 50 balls left Title: Invincibles 51-1 Content: 30 runs needed Four singles and a wide off Luke Wood's third set. Invincibles now past 50 and steadily going about their chase of this low target.

Harris blasts Spirit home in Hundred curtain raiser to outfox Invincibles

How do you follow that? Mohammed Siraj is still on the mind, bowling, always bowling, programmed to wobble it in at off‑stump until the collapse of civilisation. Anyone who witnessed Chris Woakes, scrapping for singles with his slinged‑up arm, merits a week off to head to the sauna, play the vinyls, whatever gets you to decompress. But this is the English cricketing summer, refusing to give you a minute, packed beyond comprehension. A day after the conclusion of the Test summer, it was time to start the Hundred north of the river with the capital double-header: London Spirit against Oval Invincibles. This is a stopgap season, the final year before new team owners – including four Indian Premier League franchises – enter with their own ideas of how to make this thing sing. For now, it is the same old tricks: fireworks in the daylight to kick off the new tournament and the awkwardness of the pop-up DJ booth, trying its best to convince those in: cricket is cool, cricket is cool, please kids believe me, cricket is cool. Away from the gimmicks, there is quality. The Spirit women are the defending champions, with their opponents two-time winners. It was only right that the first ball of the new edition was bowled by Marizanne Kapp, the South Africa all‑rounder who has excelled in every season, orchestrating their final victories on this ground. She bowled 10 on the trot and hooped the last of those into Georgia Redmayne to celebrate the first wicket. From there it was a game of Australian power. Grace Harris captained Surrey to victory in the Blast last month but is calling Lord's home at the moment. She was brutal against the leggies of Amanda‑Jade Wellington, her compatriot, smashing 89 off 42 balls as the Spirit finished on 176 for five, the second-highest total in the women's Hundred. Cordelia Griffith, whose previous four seasons in the competition had returned a high score of 30 not out, finally had the glory of a half-century. Then came the Invincibles' Meg Lanning, the former Australia captain playing against the side she represented last year. There was scratchiness in her start, 24 off her first 27 deliveries, costly in a chase requiring immediate impact. But then the strokes flowed. With 47 required off 14 balls, Lanning unleashed on Eva Gray, 20 taken off the next four deliveries, the cut shot a reminder of her days as a giant of the international game. A riveting finish was on until Issy Wong intervened, Lanning restricted to 85, the Spirit victors by 17 runs. During the break between games, members of the 'Tech Titans' consortium, the incoming co-owners of the Spirit, surveyed the view from the media centre, taking in what they have signed up for. The start by the women's side would have pleased them and there must have been some excitement when Spirit's men walked out to bat. Kane Williamson is their new captain, David Warner is present at the top of the order. The pair no longer reign over the IPL – they won it together at Sunrisers Hyderabad nine years ago – but the Hundred will take star names where it can. The runs, though, will have to wait another day. Both departed for single-figure scores against the Invincibles, who have won the past two men's competitions. In fact, the two‑figure score was a rarity as the Spirit crumbled, bowled out for just 80 as Rashid Khan and Sam Curran shared six wickets. The former's twirl is a new addition to the Invincibles, a significant flex to call upon the leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket as you chase three in a row. Sign up to The Spin Subscribe to our cricket newsletter for our writers' thoughts on the biggest stories and a review of the week's action after newsletter promotion The lowly target meant there was little thrill under the lights, a thoroughly anti‑climactic conclusion awaiting all; the England and Wales Cricket Board announced an attendance of 26,013 for the men's game. The crowd's greatest pleasure came from witnessing a fox do a lap of the ground early in the chase. Liam Dawson finding some turn to bowl Tawanda Muyeye did not muster as much excitement. The Invincibles crawled on what was not the easiest surface, yet still got the win with a six down the ground, 31 balls left in the match. But, then again, how do you follow that?
