Zonal commissioners, including Digvijay Bodke of the South Zone and R Snehal of the East Zone, monitored the drives.
At Mahadevpura's Panathur, where potholes were a major concern, the officials from the Major Road Infrastructure Department of BBMP filled in big potholes at Kadubeesanahalli and the surrounding areas.
Bodke and Chief Engineer Basavaraj Kabade inspected the Madivala Market area and the public toilet. In East Zone, Zonal Commissioner Snehal inspected Hosur Road, Anepalaya Junction and got the waste, encroachments of the footpath, and others cleared. The authorities in the zone covered a 4.4 km stretch covering Shivajinagar, CV Raman Nagar, Shanthi Nagar and Pulakeshinagar areas.

Expedite pothole-filling work: Maheshwar Rao to palike officials
BENGALURU: Chief Commissioner of BBMP Maheshwar Rao on Tuesday instructed palike officials to speed up pothole-filling work across the city. Speaking at a workshop for engineers, Rao told the officials to ensure quality in pothole-filling work. Although pothole-filling work is done regularly, rain posed a big challenge to the palike, he said. He directed the officials to use cold mix and ecofix material to fill potholes and deploy jet patcher machines where necessary. The officials should strictly follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The quality control division of the palike has been tasked with monitoring the pothole-filling work. Zonal commissioners, joint commissioners and chief engineers have been asked to inspect roads while repair work is on, he said. To improve sanitation, each zone should prepare a weekly schedule for ward-level cleanliness drives. Cleaning footpaths, and clearing garbage and construction debris in the morning using silt removal equipment and tractors have been made mandatory, he said. A demo on pothole-filling SOP was held during the workshop.

Bengaluru: As rain continues to expose the poor condition of city roads, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao Tuesday instructed engineers to adopt Eco-fix material and cold mix for pothole repairs during monsoon. He said conventional bitumen patches often fail in wet weather, while Eco-fix offers a more durable and environmentally responsible solution. Eco-fix, developed by Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) in collaboration with private industry partners, is a ready-to-use mix made primarily from industrial waste such as iron and steel slag. Unlike bitumen, Eco-fix can be applied even in water-filled potholes without pre-dehydration, making it highly suitable during heavy rain. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao on Tuesday directed engineers to expedite pothole-filling work across the city and ensure quality in line with prescribed standards. Speaking at a training workshop for engineers held at Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall, Mr. Rao said that while potholes are being repaired regularly, heavy rains have hindered the effectiveness of the work. To overcome this, he instructed the use of cold mix and Ecofix materials during the monsoon and urged the deployment of jet patcher machines where required. He stressed that repairs must strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and directed the Quality Control Division to monitor and certify the work. Senior officials, including zonal and joint commissioners, were asked to conduct site inspections and ensure accountability. The Chief Commissioner called for each zone to prepare a weekly sanitation schedule to improve cleanliness. This includes early morning clearing of garbage, debris, and silt using tractors and other equipment. As part of the workshop, a live demonstration of pothole repair was conducted for engineers, covering cutting, cleaning, applying tack coat, filling with bitumen, and finishing with rolling.
