Warwickshire were frustrated at New Road as persistent rain ended the County Championship derby when they needed just two more wickets to beat Worcestershire.
Chasing 327 for victory, Worcestershire were 181-8 when the players went off for bad light just before tea.
Much to the Bears' anguish, rain then arrived to wash out the last 47 overs.
Worcestershire had resumed on the final day on 54-2 and appeared destined for defeat when they declined to 87-6 against an attack led by fit-again Chris Rushworth (3-30) and Chris Woakes (3-53).
Warwickshire were closing in on victory, but Matthew Waite (44 not out), Ethan Brookes (34) and number 10 Tom Taylor showed great resolve to defy long enough for rain to come to their side's rescue.
Finding 327 runs on a difficult pitch under thick cloud against an attack led by Woakes and Rushworth is about as tough an assignment as county cricket gets and, sure enough, Worcestershire wickets were soon falling on the final morning.
The overnight batters fell in successive balls when Gareth Roderick (37) was adjudged lbw to Rushworth and Kashif Ali edged Woakes to second slip where Beau Webster took a superb catch, diving forward to his right.
If the batters were blameless in those two dismissals, that was not the case four overs later when Brett D'Oliveira lifted a leg-stump half-volley from Rushworth straight to long leg. When Rob Jones nicked a perfect outswinger from Ed Barnard to wicketkeeper Kai Smith, it was 87-6.
Waite and Brookes blended the inevitable playing and missing with sound defence and selective counter-attack to add 61 from 63 balls before the latter's middle stump was plucked out by Ethan Bamber. Woakes soon had Ben Allison caught behind but Taylor joined Waite to consume 38 minutes before the weather closed in.
Warwickshire were denied the victory they, and in particular Sam Hain's superb batting – 86 and 87 not out on a pitch on which only one other player passed 50 – deserved.
Worcestershire may feel that their luck has turned this season, having followed last week's win over Essex with a healthy points haul from a draw.

Yorkshire collapse and Alex Davies knock kickstart Bears' T20 Blast campaign
The Bears' T20 Blast campaign for 2025 creaked into life on Friday night as they secured a well earned six-wicket victory over Yorkshire Vikings at Edgbaston. Captain Alex Davies' knock of 65, as part of a century partnership with opener Tom Latham, ensured the Bears would ease to their target of 165 after wickets for Jake Lintott, Moeen Ali and Danny Briggs in the first innings. Advertisement The Bears had made two changes to this side who were taken apart by Durham; Hassan Ali, whose arrival was delayed, is finally here. Dan Mousley, who has had various commitments recently with County Club Select XIs and England Lions, was also involved. It looked a sensible bet to bowl first in the gloomy conditions and look to restrict Yorkshire. Davies, orchestrating as ever behind the stumps, switched up his bowling unit frequently, never allowing the opening pair to settle - although Dawid Malan eventually became accustomed to the conditions and played some typically authoritative shots. This was a typical Briggs bowling performance, in which he clean bowled Will Luxton and later trapped wicket keeper Harry Duke in front. His four returned figures of 2/28. Advertisement George Garton was tight in his opening over, but Davies had options and favoured spin. Briggs, Mousley, Lintott and Moeen bowled 15 of the 20 overs between them, with Hassan making different contributions; he took a smart catch when wheeling backwards to remove James Wharton, who had mended the innings with Malan, and then ran out Matt Milnes off his own bowling. Lintott was a tad more expensive but made big breakthroughs in the middle order as Yorkshire rather collapsed 139/2 to 146/7. At one stage, with Malan well set and the foundations in place, the visitors were on for a big score well in excess of 180, but the flurry of wickets halted their momentum. This was an important fightback from the Bears, who couldn't defend 225 at Trent Bridge a week ago and who were well beaten by Durham at Edgbaston on Saturday. It could yet to be significant when they reflect on this campaign as a whole. While they couldn't get Malan, who carried his bat when posting 69 not out from 48 deliveries, they'll have been satisfied with what they left themselves to chase. It was a brilliantly negotiated powerplay from captain Davies and overseas Latham. Less than a week ago, on this very pitch, they were 4/3 - there'd be no such alarm bells here. What was a modest Edgbaston crowd were entertained with a flurry of boundaries - and admittedly poor fielding from Yorkshire players out on the rope, which incidentally was cleared unapologetically by both openers. Advertisement With Yorkshire ragged, the Bears cashed in. Davies passed 50, leading the charge but aptly complemented by the equally classy Latham. The pair put on 100 inside 11 overs, though Latham did fall short of his own half century when he whipped the ball straight to deep mid-wicket. Mousley was promoted to three and found the gaps on a couple of occasions to inch the Bears closer to victory, but he succumbed when Duke took a screamer of a catch off the bowling of Matt Milnes. It was a pity that Davies, who scored 65, couldn't see the Bears over the line either when he holed out to cow corner. Yorkshire dragged it back further when they removed Moeen, tempted into the deep when the Bears still needed 17 from 13. As per, Sam Hain and Ed Barnard came to the rescue at the death to see the Bears home. They're up and running.

Alex Davies reveals 'great addition' as more players return to aid Bears cause
Bears captain Alex Davies paid tribute to his opening partner Tom Latham following the century partnership which laid firm foundations for their six-wicket victory over Yorkshire at Edgbaston on Friday night. Advertisement Davies himself scored a crucial 65, having been complemented for most of it by New Zealand international Latham, who helped himself to 44 as the Bears successfully chased down 165 with an over to spare. It was the Bears Men's first win of the 2025 T20 Blast campaign. "It was really enjoyable," Davies said. "I love Tom, he's been a great addition to the Bears. His wealth of knowledge, his experience and his helping the other guys behind the scenes. He's really calm out there, he talks about the game well and I'm glad we got off to a good start. Today we were chasing so it's about pacing the chase, but it's a really strong batting line up. If you wanted to you could pick names out of a hat - similarly with the bowling, when you're captain and have that many options, it's a luxury, but I feel that way about the batting too. We bat all the way down to 11, really." Advertisement The Bears were more rounded a side here. A week ago, at Notts - and despite scoring 225 with the bat, of which Davies himself contributed 40 - the line-up was markedly different. The list of absentees was as long as your arm, but slowly players are returning. They were able to welcome into this side Hassan Ali, who is into his third season as a Bear, and Dan Mousley, who has been on various international adventures against touring teams in recent weeks. Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes may be firmly rooted in the England camps, but Richard Gleeson and Beau Webster are others, too, who are still missing. A week on, the Bears look a more polished outfit, with experience and talent right the way through their batting and also as a bowling unit. They may have encountered a slow start, but there remain still 11 matches to play in the group stages, all the time in the world for a push towards the quarter finals. "We are staying calm," Davies continued. "A couple of years ago we lost the first couple of games and still topped the group, so we know it's possible. There's a lot of cricket to be played. Momentum is a big thing in T20 cricket, so once we have that template we can get on a roll, hopefully. Advertisement "We have a couple of guys coming back in. Adding Hassan and Dan Mousley, who bats three and bowls in the powerplay and bowls at the death, he's like three players in one. I have four spin options in Jake, Briggsy, Mo and Mouse, so it's a nice luxury to have. We always want to give opportunity to our own. There are so many moving parts on the international scene. "When we heard Beau Webster might be off, we were trying to bring someone else in but we weren't going to bring in someone who wasn't at the level because it blocks an opportunity for one of our own. They don't always come off, but that's how we want to operate - unless they're of a high, Warwickshire standard, quality."

2025 Bears game-by-game predictions: Playoffs in Year 1 under Ben Johnson?
I'm optimistic about the Chicago Bears. There's a sentence I haven't said in a while. They've done everything right (and differently!) this offseason, and it looks like they'll be much improved this season. However, that doesn't necessarily mean the Bears will be in the playoffs or win the NFC North. They still have to walk before they can run. After winning just five games last season, the bar for improvement is pretty low. I think they'll surpass their 2024 win total, but let's not get carried away with expectations again in Ben Johnson's first year as head coach. There will still be an adjustment period as the team gets used to his system and as he learns his roster. With that in mind, here's an early look and prediction for each game on Chicago's schedule. Week 1: vs. Minnesota Vikings, Monday, Sept. 8 CHI -115, MIN -105 At home in what will presumably be Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy's first start, I think the Bears have the upper hand. That is, if Brian Flores' defense isn't already in midseason form. Result: Win, 1-0 record Week 2: at Detroit Lions, Sunday, Sept. 14 (FOX) CHI +180, DET -218 The NFL schedule makers wasted no time bringing Ben Johnson back to Detroit, and there's going to be so much extra juice there that I think the Bears can propel themselves to a win for their new coach. It also may take some time for the new coordinators in Detroit to get their footing, as well as defensive end Aidan Hutchinson to return to form. Result: Win, 2-0 record Week 3: vs. Dallas Cowboys, Sunday, Sept. 21 (FOX) CHI -155, DAL +130 Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will be back from injury and a couple of weeks into the groove of the new season. Dallas added more weapons for him as well as help up front, so I would count on a strong start to the season for the Cowboys. Result: Loss, 2-1 record Week 4: at Las Vegas Raiders, Sunday, Sept. 28 CHI -120, LV +100 This is a complete toss-up with the overhaul that happened in Vegas this offseason. I'm betting it's early enough in the season that the Raiders haven't found their stride quite yet. On paper, Chicago has the better team, too. Result: Win, 3-1 record Week 5: BYE Week 6: at Washington Commanders, Monday, Oct. 13 CHI +164, WSH -198 Chicago will be itching to avenge last year's loss to Washington on an insane Hail Mary, but as the Rolling Stones told us, you can't always get what you want. The Commanders only got better from last season and still have a ton of momentum coming off a deep playoff run that saw them challenge for the NFC title way ahead of schedule. Result: Loss, 3-2 record Week 7: vs. New Orleans Saints, Sunday, Oct. 19 (FOX) CHI -325, NO +260 This is one of the only benefits of this year's fourth-place schedule. The Saints will presumably be relying on a rookie to be their starting quarterback, and they still have holes all over their roster. It doesn't seem like their bounce back is coming this season, so this should be a win for Chicago. Result: Win, 4-2 record Week 8: at Baltimore Ravens, Sunday, Oct. 26 CHI +245, BAL -305 Playing Lamar Jackson is always a challenge, but playing him in Baltimore will be especially difficult. Result: Loss, 4-3 record Week 9: at Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday, Nov. 2 CHI +136, CIN -162 Getting the AFC North was really a tough straw to draw for the NFC North, which is already the toughest division in football. Sure, the Bengals finished in third place in their division last season, but with some shakeups and retentions this offseason, I don't expect Cincinnati to be down for long. Result: Loss, 4-4 record Week 10: vs. New York Giants, Sunday, Nov. 9 (FOX) CHI -218, NYG +180 There are a lot of question marks with the Giants still, perhaps not who will start at quarterback in Week 1 but certainly in Week 10. They also still need a ton of help along the offensive line, so this should work in Chicago's favor. Result: Win, 5-4 record Week 11: at Minnesota Vikings, Sunday, Nov. 16 (FOX) CHI +110, MIN -130 I think it's a pipe dream for any NFC North team to sweep a division rival this year. The Bears have been the division punching bag for the past few seasons under Matt Eberflus, so splitting the season series in Johnson's first year is a big win for them. Result: Loss, 5-5 record Week 12: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, Nov. 23 CHI -130, PIT +110 The Steelers' defense is still formidable, but I think any team can win against them as long as they don't have a franchise guy under center. It's hard to say what exactly Aaron Rodgers is at this point. Result: Win, 6-5 record Week 13: at Philadelphia Eagles, Friday, Nov. 28 CHI +250, PHI -310 A year ago, Chicago came out of Thanksgiving weekend in search of a new head coach, so a date with the defending champs at their place actually marks a slight improvement. The Eagles never seem to take a true step back, even after reaching the mountaintop thanks to general manager Howie Roseman's team-building efficiency. Result: Loss, 6-6 record Week 14: at Green Bay Packers, Sunday, Dec. 7 (FOX) CHI +154, GB -185 Winning back-to-back games at Lambeau would really solidify Johnson and quarterback Caleb Willliams as the future of the Bears franchise. For that reason, I think there remains some mystery about Chicago losing to the team up north in their first meeting of the season. Result: Loss, 6-7 record Week 15: vs. Cleveland Browns, Sunday, Dec. 14 (FOX) CHI -298, CLE +240 I want there to be hope for the Browns, but I just don't think that happens as long as they're hamstrung by Deshaun Watson's contract. Next year should be a fresh start, but until then, I think they're the game every team is circling as a win on their schedules. Result: Win, 7-7 record Week 16: vs. Green Bay Packers, Saturday, Dec. 20 (FOX) CHI +100, GB -120 The Bears get to avenge their loss at Lambeau with a win at Soldier Field — a place Jordan Love is unbeaten at. That's encouraging in its own right as the Bears start to wrap up the first season of the Johnson era. Result: Win, 8-7 record Week 17: at San Francisco 49ers, Sunday, Dec. 28 CHI +150, SF -180 It's a tough trip, and the 49ers shouldn't be a rollover opponent despite their fourth-place finish in the NFC West last year. They're the reason this is not the year to be playing a last-place schedule. Result: Loss, 8-8 record Week 18: vs. Detroit Lions, TBD CHI +102, DET -122 It can't all be a fairy tale. With a potential playoff berth on the line, Chicago again draws one of its toughest opponents. The Lions will have found their groove by this point and probably be staring down another postseason berth, too, if not the NFC North crown.
