What is Mohammed Siraj's ‘Siuuu' Celebration And Why Is He Being Mocked For It?

What Is 'Suiii"? Suiii. The popular celebration is often seen on the football field where a player celebrates a goal by leaping into the air, performing a mid-air spin, and landing with arms outstretched, and shouting 'Suiii". The crowd joins the athlete and echoes 'Suiii" to celebrate the goal triumph in unison. 'Sui" in Portuguese means 'yes". The celebration is largely associated with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who has popularised and made the Suiii celebration a part of his routine every time he scores a goal. Ronaldo's widely recognised signature goal celebration has been imitated globally by several athletes in other sports such as cricket, tennis, and golf. Siraj's Suiii Siraj broke into the Suiii celebrations on Friday during the third day of the fourth Test when he cleaned up Chris Woakes on the first delivery of the 130th over of England's first innings. What's the catch, then? While Siraj's heart might be in the right place to celebrate the deserved wicket, the animated 'Suiii" performed by him after scalping Woakes may have made a few viewers chuckle a bit. Why? Because England were already leading India by a massive margin of 170 runs at the time of Siraj's wicket, and will look to extend the lead on Saturday. The host captain Ben Stokes is going strong at 77, while England still have three wickets in their kitty. At stumps, England were 544 for 7. India, asked to bat first, posted a score of 358 in their first innings. Also Read: Why Is The World's Best Bowler Jasprit Bumrah Getting 'Cooked' On The Internet? 'What Was That, Siraj?" It didn't take much for those who tuned in to the match to come on X and ask Siraj why exactly was he celebrating a 'tailender" wicket. 'Pulling out the 'SIUUU' when you bowl the No.9 with a grubber and you're trailing by 170, hmmm," a user on X remarked. 'dunking the siiiuuu celebration after being 170 behind is soo embarrassing (sic)." Siraj also faced criticism for throwing away India's reviews, yielding no wickets. Woakes was the sole victim of Siraj on the day that belonged to England. The 31-year-old Indian pacer toiled hard for the wicket as he bowled 24 overs, giving away 113 runs at a 4.35 economy rate.

What went on Chris Woakes' mind on the delivery that injured Rishabh Pant? England pacer says ‘thought he might run…'

Chris Woakes finally broke silence on the delivery that caused Rishabh Pant's toe fracture in the ongoing fourth Test in Manchester, with the England pacer stating he didn't intend to bowl a yorker. The incident took place on the opening day at Old Trafford when the Indian vice-captain attempted a reverse sweep, but missed its line with the delivery landing directly on Pant's right foot. Pant, who was batting on 37, immediately went down grimacing in pain before being retired hurt. Immediate visuals showed Pant's foot swelled up with blood oozing from the injured area. The 27-year-old, who couldn't stand on his feet, later took painkillers to come out to bat and scored a half-century to propel India to 358 all in the first innings. However, Pant won't be able to keep wickets, with Dhruv Jurel donning the big gloves. Speaking to Sky Sports, Woakes admitted he tried to bowl slow but it came out full on Pant's foot. 'I didn't think it would be a reverse sweep!" Woakes said after the second day's play. "I thought he might run at me, so I tried to bowl a slower ball; it came out full and hit him on the foot. It wasn't intended to be a yorker, but the plan was to take the pace off,' added the England seamer.

Ravi Shastri Gives Grim Verdict On Rishabh Pant's Injury During 4th Test: 'Will Affect Dressing Room...'

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri termed Rishabh Pant foot fracture in the ongoing Test against England at Manchester as a 'body blow', adding that this will affect the visitors' dressing room due to them losing one batter in the line-up. In the 68th over of India's innings on day one, Pant attempted a premeditated reverse sweep off seam bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes, but the ball hit his right boot after taking an inside edge. With the swelling on top of the foot taking the shape of a table tennis ball and some blood coming out as well, Pant was unable to put any weight on his injured foot. Eventually, an ambulance buggy resembling a golf cart took a grimacing Pant off the field, as he retired hurt on 37 off 48 balls, after having a partnership worth 72 runs with B. Sai Sudharsan. Scans later revealed that Pant has sustained a fracture on his metatarsals, with the recovery period being of minimum six weeks. "It's a body blow. It will affect the dressing room, because they will have lost a batter for the game - not just this innings, but for the next innings as well. If India get in to a tight position, his services will have been needed. He's an in form player, plus the energy he brings in the way he plays, the way he disrupts the opposition attack." "From England's point of view, they think 'at least we can control the game now'. There's no man in the middle to give them sleepless nights, they don't have that headache anymore," said Shastri on Sky Sports' broadcast ahead of day two's play. Nasser Hussain, the former England captain, said Pant's injury is 'a huge deal' from a series perspective. "Dhruv Jurel has been doing a lot of wicketkeeping this morning. That ball (from Woakes that injured Pant) may have effectively got England two wickets, because Pant may not resume his batting here, in the first or second innings. The next Test also starts a week today. It's a massive blow for the series if we lose such an influential cricketer." With India to resume from 264/4, Woakes felt England picking two quick wickets can help the hosts' get ahead in the match. "If Pant is out, which I'm hearing Pant he potentially is, that's a bit of a blow for them. He's been a great player for them and he's a challenging player to bowl at." "With the new ball this morning, we've got to make sure we put the ball in the right areas - get two quick ones and we feel we can get through their tail. Typical Test match cricket; the new ball is important, the first hour is important and hopefully we can get ahead in this game."

Yashasvi Jaiswal's Bat Broken During Manchester Test. Internet Goes Into Overdrive

India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal had to get his bat changed after a ball from England's Chris Woakes did massive damage to his willow on Day 1 of the 5th Test in Manchester on Wednesday. The incident took place on the fourth ball of the eighth over after India were put into bat by England at Old Trafford. Jaiswal could only defend Woakes' good length delivery as it nipped back in after hitting the surface. However, the ball hit the bat way above the sweet spot and the impact was severe enough to bend the willow near the neck. This resulted in a brief stoppage of play as Karun Nair, who was dropped from the playing XI, rushed to the middle carrying more bats for Jaiswal. No team opting to bowl first has ever won at Old Trafford but Ben Stokes ignored that piece of statistics on an overcast morning. The ball did seam around, but lack of pace allowed the Indian openers to play the pull shot with relative ease. Rahul (40) and Jaiswal (36) are unseparated at the break. India captain Shubman Gill thought it was a good toss to lose and that seems to be the case considering the dry and slow nature of the surface. Woakes made it most difficult for the batters, especially Jaiswal, who was beaten on a number of occasions by the England pacer. In the first over of the match bowled by Woakes, two edges of Jaiswal's bat did not carry, signalling the lack of carry off the pitch. In his eight over spell, Woakes was pulled twice with Rahul and Jaiswal dispatching him in front of the square. A streaky drive from Rahul off Woakes brought the Indian opener's 1000 runs in England, a testament to his stellar work at the top of the order even in this series.
