Following the Pro Kabaddi League auctions, the star defender presented a cheque of Rs 25 lakh to his childhood coach, Bhupender Malik, in what can only be described as a deeply emotional tribute to his mentor.
'Bhupender Malik is my childhood guru. He introduced me to Kabaddi for the first time,' Sunil shared. The coach has been instrumental in nurturing not just Sunil's talent, but that of numerous other PKL players. What makes this gesture even more remarkable is Bhupender Malik's selfless approach to coaching - he has been training players for 20-25 years without charging any fees.

The moment also highlights the transformative impact of the Pro Kabaddi League on players' lives. 'Earlier, there was nothing. Now, the money has come, the name and the fame has come to the players. The world has started to know us Kabaddi players,' Sunil reflected. As the most expensive Indian defender in the PKL 11 Player Auction, he understands better than most how PKL has elevated the sport and its athletes.

International Yoga Day: Andhra govt conducts high-level review meeting at VMRDA office
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 18 (ANI): The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday conducted a high-level review meeting at the VMRDA office in Visakhapatnam to finalise preparations for the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. The event, which is expected to attract a record turnout of five lakh people, will be held with massive arrangements in place to ensure smooth execution. The meeting was attended by Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha, Achennaidu, DBV Swamy, BC Janardhan Reddy, and Angani Satya Prasad, along with MP Bharat, coalition MLAs from Uttarandhra, and several other public representatives. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha addressed the press after the meeting and shared major details about the event. 'The people of Visakhapatnam are fortunate to organise the 11th International Yoga Day in Visakhapatnam,' she said. She added that the state government had taken the International Yoga Day very seriously and that the Chief Minister supervised the arrangements. Highlighting the significance of the event, she said, 'Yoga is a gift from India to the world. Yoga is a part of life. We are moving Andhra Pradesh towards a healthy Andhra Pradesh.' To ensure proper management of the event, officials said that 326 compartments had been prepared to accommodate participants. More than 2,000 CCTV cameras were installed across the venue to monitor the crowd and maintain security. 'We are taking precautions to avoid traffic problems. We are taking steps to prevent any untoward incidents,' Anitha stated. As part of the government's health and safety measures, each participant will be provided with a yoga mat, a T-shirt, and an ORS bottle. In case of rain, the event will be shifted to Andhra University (AU) without delay. 'If it rains, we will set up in the AU without any problem,' the Home Minister said. Home Minister Anitha called on all the people of Visakhapatnam to participate in large numbers and make the event a grand success. As India prepares to mark a decade of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), the city of Visakhapatnam, chosen as the national host for the 11th edition, witnessed a comprehensive field visit and high-level review meeting on June 15 by senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, said a statement. As June 21 approaches, Visakhapatnam stands ready to showcase how yoga can bridge communities, enhance well-being, and reflect India's commitment to 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health.' (ANI)

Team India skipper Shubman Gill has been put under the scanner ahead of the opening Test match against England at Headingley, Leeds. The 25-year-old recently took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, but his first big test will be to prove his batting prowess in challenging overseas conditions. His batting performances outside Asia have been underwhelming, with just 559 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 25.40, and he is yet to register a century in overseas red-ball cricket. His record in England is particularly concerning—having played three Tests, he has managed only 88 runs at a disappointing average of 14.66. Former England cricketer Nick Knight, who witnessed Shubman's batting from close quarters in IPL during his commentary stint, exposed the chink in his armour ahead of the Test series. "Well, when I've been out in India (for IPL commentary), I always highlight the same thing, really. Sometimes with Shubman, more so when you're sort of a little lacking in confidence and striving for things a little bit for your form, sometimes that front leg just pushes across a little bit too much," Knight told PTI. "And, therefore, the rotation of the body and accessing the ball and playing around that front pad. But of late, I haven't seen that quite so much, if I'm brutally honest," he added. The former English batter warned Gill about the significant challenge left-handed bowlers could pose when coming over the wicket. "...But it becomes more important when you've got a left-armer coming over the wicket and swinging it back into the pads. That's something that he will probably be always aware of," Knight added. Batting in English red-ball cricket presents one of the most formidable challenges, primarily due to the distinct properties of the Dukes ball, highly unpredictable weather patterns, and the unique characteristics of pitches there. Knight, who represented England in 17 Tests and 100 ODIs, suggested that the majority of Indian top-order batters will be wary of the outside off-stump line. "That line outside off stump, again, will be the challenge for all these top-order players, particularly in England," he concluded.
