International Yoga Day: Andhra govt conducts high-level review meeting at VMRDA office
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 18 (ANI): The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday conducted a high-level review meeting at the VMRDA office in Visakhapatnam to finalise preparations for the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21.
The event, which is expected to attract a record turnout of five lakh people, will be held with massive arrangements in place to ensure smooth execution.
The meeting was attended by Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha, Achennaidu, DBV Swamy, BC Janardhan Reddy, and Angani Satya Prasad, along with MP Bharat, coalition MLAs from Uttarandhra, and several other public representatives.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha addressed the press after the meeting and shared major details about the event.
'The people of Visakhapatnam are fortunate to organise the 11th International Yoga Day in Visakhapatnam,' she said.
She added that the state government had taken the International Yoga Day very seriously and that the Chief Minister supervised the arrangements.
Highlighting the significance of the event, she said, 'Yoga is a gift from India to the world. Yoga is a part of life. We are moving Andhra Pradesh towards a healthy Andhra Pradesh.'
To ensure proper management of the event, officials said that 326 compartments had been prepared to accommodate participants. More than 2,000 CCTV cameras were installed across the venue to monitor the crowd and maintain security.
'We are taking precautions to avoid traffic problems. We are taking steps to prevent any untoward incidents,' Anitha stated.
As part of the government's health and safety measures, each participant will be provided with a yoga mat, a T-shirt, and an ORS bottle.
In case of rain, the event will be shifted to Andhra University (AU) without delay.
'If it rains, we will set up in the AU without any problem,' the Home Minister said.
Home Minister Anitha called on all the people of Visakhapatnam to participate in large numbers and make the event a grand success.
As India prepares to mark a decade of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), the city of Visakhapatnam, chosen as the national host for the 11th edition, witnessed a comprehensive field visit and high-level review meeting on June 15 by senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Government of Andhra Pradesh, said a statement.
As June 21 approaches, Visakhapatnam stands ready to showcase how yoga can bridge communities, enhance well-being, and reflect India's commitment to 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health.' (ANI)

The new entity marks a significant step in WTT's mission to expand the sport globally while building strong local ecosystems. WTT India will serve as the anchor for high-performance elite and junior-level events and player development, bringing the world of professional table tennis closer to Indian athletes and audiences than ever before, as per a press release from WTT. The move comes as Indian sport sees strong institutional backing and grassroots momentum, with table tennis gaining traction and a new generation of Indian players rising on the international stage. Since its launch, WTT has rapidly evolved into a dynamic global sporting property, staging world-class events across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. With a presence in over 180 broadcast territories, WTT has transformed table tennis into a year-round, premium sports spectacle, backed by elite venues, immersive production, and digital-first storytelling. At the helm of this transformation is Steve Dainton, WTT Chief Executive Officer and one of the sport's most influential global figures. "Don't think careers are defined by...": Rob Key on number three spot battle between Pope, Bethell
Leeds [UK], June 18 (ANI): England's team's managing director Rob Key said that the battle for number three spot in the playing XI for first India Test between Ollie Pope and Jacob Bethell would not define either player's career and it is a 'good position to be in'. England will have a huge selection call to take as either Pope or Bethell will bat at the coveted number three spot, and the other one could miss out on being a part of the playing XI completely. Key has framed the call as a decision as to 'which really good player' they should pick and said, 'It is a good position to be in.' During the one-off Test against Zimbabwe earlier in late-May, Pope scored 171 to continue his string of strong showings at number three, scoring 2,024 runs in 28 Tests and 48 innings at an average of 43.06, with seven centuries and fifties each. On the other hand, Bethell slammed three brilliant fifties at the same position against New Zealand last December, a series which saw Pope keeping wickets and shifting down the order to accommodate a player who is being hyped as the team's next superstar. Speaking to the Telegraph's cricket podcast as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, Key said that it is a win-win situation either way. 'You have got two brilliant players who can do that role. Ollie Pope's been fantastic in that tough spot; he played brilliantly in New Zealand... alright, he was in a different role, but we have got two brilliant options in those spots,' he said. 'A tough decision is when you have got no options, and you have got to just try and find something from nowhere. That is when I am sort of scratching my head. This one is: 'Which really good player are we going to pick?' It is a good position to be in,' he added. Bethell missed the Test match against Zimbabwe as he was busy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While ex-English batter Michael Atherton criticised Bethell for preferring franchise over Test cricket, Key said he had no regrets. 'I do not think that the careers of Ollie Pope and Jacob Bethell are defined by what happens this week, or whether he came back to play the Zimbabwe Test. He may not have played that Test match,' Key said. 'Watching his development has been extraordinary, and his going out there and playing in the IPL, I think, was brilliant for him. We will get the return on that in the future,' he added. Key also suggested the express pacer Mark Wood, currently out due to knee injury, has an outside chance of being picked during the back-end of the series. 'He potentially could be ready for the back end,' he said. 'You may see him by the end of the series, but certainly then when you fast-forward to the Ashes, he should be fine for that,' he concluded. The first Test of the five-match series, kickstarting both teams' ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, will start from June 20 onwards. The 31-year-old, who is going to experience the rigours of international cricket following a stunning Indian Premier League (IPL) stint for Mumbai Indians (MI) after an injury lay-off, carries on his hands not only his favourite weapon, but also the fate of an under-transition Indian cricket team without its three heavyweights. The first Test will kick-start at Leeds from June 20, and watching a Team India without Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin would be a sad sight, no doubt, despite the exciting potential this new-look squad possesses. Bumrah, the 'national treasure' as labelled by Virat, is to be protected at all costs, and the number of Tests he is going to play is not certain, with skipper Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir choosing to stay tight-lipped about it during the pre-departure presser. Unlike the IPL, Bumrah would not have the privilege of having experienced campaigners like Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar by his side. Instead, he would lead a young Indian pace line-up, featuring Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep, who had combined test experience of 46 tests, just one more than his own count. All-rounders Shardul Thakur or Nitish Kumar Reddy could offer a bit of a breather to the main bowlers. Bumrah has a stunning record in England against the Three Lions, having taken 37 scalps in just nine matches at an average of 23.78 and a strike rate of 51.9, which are the best among the top-ten Indian bowlers in England. His best bowling figures are 5/64, with two five-wicket hauls. Out of 15 innings, only once has Bumrah gone wicketless against England at their home. During his first tour to England in 2018, he took 14 wickets in three matches at an average of 25.92, with best bowling figures of 5/85, which sealed India a 203-run win at Nottingham. The next tour during 2021-22 was a one to remember as he topped the bowling charts with 23 scalps in five games at an average of 22.47, with best bowling figures of 5/64. During the last Test at Edgbaston in 2022, which was rescheduled due to COVID-19, he also made his captaincy debut, though in a losing effort. Overall, against England at home and away, Bumrah has taken 60 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 22.16, with best bowling figures of 6/45. Bumrah is coming to the England shores with supreme confidence and statistics behind him. He had an all-timer series in Australia, taking 32 wickets across five matches at an average of 13.06, with three five-wicket hauls and two four-wicket hauls. His lone warrior effort in Australia itself is enough to make him a Hall of Fame worthy act, but another brilliant outing in England could take his legacy as a fast bowler several notches above. The pacer is more than just his statistics, with his ability to generate masterful swing and toe-crushing yorkers, create pressure and fear in his opponents, deliver a clutch bowling spell and carry the entire nation's expectations on his back with a calm smile on his face making him a valuable addition to the Indian group. Another five-wicket haul would take him to 10 fifers in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia (SENA) nations, making him the first Indian bowler to do so.
