Water released from Tandava Reservoir to irrigate ayacut in Anakapalle, Kakinada
VISAKHAPATNAM: Water from the Tandava Reservoir was released on Sunday to irrigate the ayacut in Anakapalle and Kakinada districts. Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu and Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha performed puja before opening the reservoir gates. Jalaharati was also offered. Addressing the gathering, Ayyanna Patrudu said the reservoir would provide irrigation water to 51,465 acres, including 32,689 acres in Anakapalle, and 18,776 acres in Kakinada. He noted that repairs and development works worth Rs 8 crore had been taken up last year. The reservoir, with a full capacity of 4.96 TMC, currently holds 2.92 TMC, which is sufficient for 60 days of irrigation. Under the Home Minister's initiative, Rs 2.10 crore from the Disaster Relief Fund was used for 18 development works, and Rs 4.20 crore was sanctioned for 57 more works, of which 30 have been completed. Plans are afoot to construct a road from Nathavaram to the reservoir at a cost of Rs 8 crore. The Home Minister said the reservoir benefits farmers in Tuni, Payakaraopet and Narsipatnam Assembly constituencies, providing water to 50,000 acres.

Ayyanna criticises previous YSRCP govt for neglecting Thandava reservoir
Anakapalli: Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu criticised that the previous YSRCP government totally neglected Thandava reservoir and failed to take up repair works of the gates with an estimated budget of Rs 7 lakh. After releasing water from the Thandava reservoir, considered as the major project of the district, here on Sunday, Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu announced, 'The Thandava reservoir project will provide water to crops in Narsipatnam, Payakaraopeta and Kakinada district.' About 51,465 acres will be used for irrigation purpose through the reservoir. Of this, 32,689 acres will be supplied to Anakapalli district and 18,776 acres to Kakinada district, he added. The Assembly Speaker lauded the efforts of Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha for undertaking 18 development works utilising disaster relief fund of Rs 2.1 crore. In addition, 57 works have been sanctioned for Rs 4.2 crore. He suggested that water should be utilised cautiously as the current water storage is 2.92 tmcft, while the water storage capacity of the reservoir is 4.96 tmcft. Ayyanna Patrudu further informed that the road construction from Nathavaram to Thandava reservoir will be commenced soon by the roads and buildings department at a cost of Rs 8 crore. Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said, 'Thousands of farmers depend on the Thandava project. The reservoir was neglected by the previous government, and after the formation of the NDA government, the reservoir gates were repaired. We are facilitating irrigation water to 50,000 acres through the reservoir.' The Home Minister stated that the NDA government was giving top priority to farmers and as part of it, the government is providing minimum support prices for crops. Thandava project chairman Karaka Satyanarayana, market yard chairman G V Venkataramana, Tuni market yard chairman, Jana Sena Party constituency In-charge Suryachandra, Natavaram mandal TDP president Nandipalli Ramana, officials, leaders and farmers participated in the programme.

Home Minister exhorts youth to make wise choices
Visakhapatnam: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed concern over a section of youth resorting to vices, falling prey to them at a tender age and making 'easy money'. After tying 'rakhis' to the prisoners and police personnel on the occasion of 'Rakshabandhan' celebrated at the Central Prison, Visakhapatnam on Saturday, the Home Minister suggested to the prisoners not to choose a wrong path to survive as there are several ways to come up in life. While tying rakhis to the prisoners, the Home Minister interacted with them and took stock of their case details. An awareness programme was held to sensitise the offenders involved in transporting cannabis. Speaking on the occasion, the Home Minister emphasised that the youth should be aware of the choices they make and their consequences. Later, the Home Minister boarded an auto-rickshaw and reached Ushodaya Junction at MVP Colony to enquire about the health condition of Korlayya, a constable, who has been rendering duty despite suffering from health issues. Tying a rakhi to the constable, Anitha assured that the government would support him in all possible manner. Further, the Home Minister visited the family members of the deceased in the recent cylinder blast that occurred at Bukka Veedhi near Fishing Harbour along with Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao, District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad, MLA Ch. Vamsi Krishna Srinivas Yadav, among others. It may be recalled that three died, while three others were injured in the cylinder explosion that occurred at a welding shop. Visiting the victims' families, including Srinu's wife Lakshmi and Muthyalu's spouse Pramila, Ch Ganesh's wife Sudha, compensation to the tune of Rs.10 lakh was handed over to each family. Giving confidence to the family members, Anitha said, 'Apart from compensation, the injured are receiving quality treatment in the hospital. The cause of the cylinder explosion is yet to be known and investigation is in progress with the coordination of the police and forensic experts,' Anitha informed. Further, the Home Minister exercised caution that the people should alert the police officials as soon as they spot any unidentified equipment so that accidents like the recent cylinder blast would be averted.

Andhra: Govt extends financial support to families of cylinder blast victims
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], August 9 (ANI): The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday extended financial assistance to the families of three people who lost their lives in a tragic gas cylinder explosion at a welding shop near Bukkaveedhi in the Fishing Harbour area, the release Minister Chandrababu Naidu had earlier announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for each victim's family. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister and in-charge of Vizianagaram district Vangalapudi Anitha on Saturday (August 2, 2025) said Chandrababu Naidu government was focussing on irrigation projects of Vizianagaram and other parts of North Andhra region to ensure three crops in a year. Andhra Pradesh will become a strategic node in 'India-UAE economic corridor', says UAE Minister Abdulla Al Marri Along with Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas, she interacted with farmers of Puritipenta village of Gajapathinagaram mandal of the district. Along with the farmers, she participated in sowing activity in the paddy fields. Speaking on the occasion, the Home Minister said Annadata-Sukhibhava scheme was aimed to ensure financial assistance for the farmers who were worried with the skyrocketing of prices of fertilizers, seeds in the open market.
