Water released from Tandava Reservoir to irrigate ayacut in Anakapalle, Kakinada

VISAKHAPATNAM: Water from the Tandava Reservoir was released on Sunday to irrigate the ayacut in Anakapalle and Kakinada districts. Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu and Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha performed puja before opening the reservoir gates. Jalaharati was also offered.
Addressing the gathering, Ayyanna Patrudu said the reservoir would provide irrigation water to 51,465 acres, including 32,689 acres in Anakapalle, and 18,776 acres in Kakinada.
He noted that repairs and development works worth Rs 8 crore had been taken up last year. The reservoir, with a full capacity of 4.96 TMC, currently holds 2.92 TMC, which is sufficient for 60 days of irrigation.
Under the Home Minister's initiative, Rs 2.10 crore from the Disaster Relief Fund was used for 18 development works, and Rs 4.20 crore was sanctioned for 57 more works, of which 30 have been completed. Plans are afoot to construct a road from Nathavaram to the reservoir at a cost of Rs 8 crore.
The Home Minister said the reservoir benefits farmers in Tuni, Payakaraopet and Narsipatnam Assembly constituencies, providing water to 50,000 acres.

5 countries which can attack anywhere on earth, India's name not in list, 5th country will surprise you...

Missiles- Representative file image New Delhi: Amid global rise in tensions and air conflicts especially with long-range missiles that can strike targets thousands of kilometers away, there are some countries now possess weapons capable of hitting anywhere on Earth, giving them unmatched strategic reach. However, do you know about the best missiles of each of the powerful nations which can be used to hit targets around the world. Which are the most powerful missiles of the world? Russia, led by Vladimir Putin leads the pack with its RS-28 Sarmat (18,000 km) and unlimited-range Burevestnik. The US follows with Minuteman III (13,000+ km) and submarine-launched missiles. Talking about India's neighbour, China's DF-41 has a range between 12,000–15,000 km. Britain's Trident II has a range of 12,000 km, and France's M51 has a hitting range of 10,000+ km) with global strike capability. Also, North Korea can hit most regions but falls short of full global reach. How far can India hit with its missiles? India ranks seventh, with missiles covering almost all of Asia and aimed at countering China, while Pakistan is far behind. Though not yet in the 'anywhere on Earth' league, India continues expanding its range to strengthen its strategic position. Why India is building next-generation BrahMos missile? DRDO is looking to build a next-generation BrahMos missile, which will be a lighter, smaller version of the current version, the organisation's Chairman and Department of Defence Secretary (R&D) Samir V Kamat said recently. BrahMos-NG (Next Generation) will be able to fit into any platform, unlike the current missile, which can only be used with the Sukhoi aircraft, the DRDO chief added as per a report by ANI. 'We are looking at BrahMos-NG, which is a smaller version of BrahMos, which can then be fitted on all our other platforms. Today, BrahMos can only be fitted on the Sukhoi platform, but if we can make it smaller, we can fit it on all our platforms. We are planning to start it soon,' he said. (With inputs from agencies)

Star Power, Street Dogs: How Celeb Voices Are Shaping Indias Canine Conundrum

The Nation is going through a heated argument over the Supreme Court order to remove stray dogs from Delhi-NCR and their relocation to dedicated shelters within eight weeks. The ruling aimed to safeguard public safety has found strong support among the 'mass' middle and lower-class citizens, but has sparked fierce opposition largely from the upper-class dog lovers and animal activists. Protests erupted at Delhi's India Gate, where self-proclaimed animal lovers held candle marches. Bollywood celebrities, including Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Sanya Malhotra, also voiced support for stray dogs on social media, urging compassion. However, critics argue that these public figures often own foreign breeds rather than adopting local strays, questioning the sincerity of their activism. Official data reveals that 10,000 people are bitten by dogs daily in India, with 37.15 lakh cases reported last year alone. Dog bites lead to around 120 rabies deaths in three years and cost the nation approximately Rs 2 lakh crore annually in healthcare and economic losses. Anti-rabies injections alone cost the government Rs 150 crore yearly. Advocates also point to safety concerns, recalling incidents like the death of 14-year-old Shahvez in Ghaziabad from rabies after a stray dog attack. They accuse elite activists of being disconnected from the struggles of common citizens who face stray dog threats daily. Some suggest looking abroad for solutions. The Netherlands, now free of stray dogs, achieved this by taxing new dog ownership, imposing heavy fines for abandonment, promoting adoption of strays, and establishing a 'dog police' force. The debate remains polarised between those who see strays as a public hazard and those who view them as family. As protests and counterarguments grow, the question remains whether India can balance compassion for animals with the safety of its people.
