How Sandra Bullock turned Dakota Johnson's infamous Razzie win for Madame Web into something positive
Rumours have been swirling that Dakota Johnson and Coldplay's Chris Martin have ended their eight-year relationship. Adding to a challenging few months, Dakota also took home a Razzie Award for her role in Madame Web (2024), a film that failed to impress audiences and critics alike. In a recent episode of Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, Johnson opened up about a surprising message she received from none other than Sandra Bullock. The Hollywood icon reached out after Dakota's Razzie win for Worst Actress, an infamous award that Bullock herself once won.
'I recently actually exchanged texts — well, I got a voice note — from Sandra Bullock, because I don't know if you know, but I won the Razzie for Worst Actress,' Johnson revealed. 'There's a lot of good people who have won that… but Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note, being like 'I heard you are in the Razzie club and we should have brunch, we should have a monthly brunch.' Because I guess she won that the year that she won the Oscar as well. It was in the same year, I think.' Johnson shared how special the message felt: 'I freaked out getting this message from her because she's so iconic to me, as like a movie star. I was like, 'Oh my God.' I was just crazy.'
The Razzie sweep wasn't just a blow to Johnson personally; Madame Web itself was a major disappointment, taking home Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay awards. The film, which stars Johnson as Cassandra Webb — a paramedic who gains precognitive abilities after a near-death experience — fell flat with audiences. Earlier, Dakota stood firm in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, asserting that the film's failure was not her fault.

Stephen A Smith gets special shout-out from Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson after his appearance on First Take
NBA icon Magic Johnson lit up ESPN's 'First Take' set in New York this week, joining longtime friend Stephen A. Smith and host Molly Qerim for a spirited conversation during the ongoing NBA Finals. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Fresh off Game 3 of the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Indiana Pacers showdown, Johnson delivered strong takes on key basketball storylines. The Los Angeles Lakers legend also shared his appreciation for his media colleagues. Magic Johnson praises Stephen A. Smith and ESPN hosts Magic Johnson made a dual appearance Thursday morning, first on Get Up! with Mike Greenberg and Jay Williams, then on First Take. The Lakers legend relished every minute of it. 'I always have the best time when I'm on First Take with my great friend Stephen A. Smith and the super talented Molly Qerim! We covered a range of topics this morning and it was such an amazing time! @FirstTake,' Magic wrote on X. His shout-out didn't end there as the NBA Hall of Famer went on to extend his appreciation to the Get Up! crew as well, tweeting, 'It's always great to visit my boy Mike Greenberg and Jay Williams on Get Up! I want to thank them both for having me on this morning to talk the NBA Finals OKC vs. Indiana, the Lakers, and my championship mindset. @GetUpESPN.' Johnson brought championship knowledge and an unmistakable presence to both ESPN platforms. During his First Take moment, Smith asked Johnson to define a 'superstar,' and the response was classic Magic. 'A person who can go on the road and sell the building,' Johnson declared. 'You gotta be box office… Larry Bird — people running home. Charles Barkley — people running home. Shaq — people running home. Kobe — people running home. And of course, the greatest to ever play — . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now People running home to see him, or doing everything they can to get into the arena to watch him play. That's a superstar.' T hough Johnson has long been an admirer of LeBron James, especially since the King joined the Lakers, he didn't hesitate when naming Michael Jordan as the GOAT. Johnson and Jordan famously faced off in the 1991 NBA Finals, a series that marked the passing of the torch as the Bulls began their dynasty. Beyond legacy debates, Johnson also gave his take on the New York Knicks' disappointing postseason exit. On Get Up, he pointed to one trade that, in his view, shifted the team's identity. 'The swagger left the Knicks when [DiVincenzo] got traded, and they don't have that swagger again,' he said, referring to Donte DiVincenzo's move to Minnesota as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns deal. Also Read: 'See, they got nice guys, but they don't have tough, mean guys, and that's what Donte brought to the table.' Johnson highlighted DiVincenzo's grit and scoring touch, noting his 22.7 points per game in last season's playoffs as a critical missing piece. 'New York Knicks fans loved him because he was tough, he was mean, but also he could score,' Johnson added.

Did Dakota Johnson get matching manicures with her dog Tokyo?
Dakota Johnson just knows how to give us a moment. And just know that it takes a lot for something to top the hilarious (and lowkey steamy!) interviews she's been giving with her Materialists gang, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. But Tokyo seems to have trumped them all. The actor, 35, recently appeared on Amy Poehler's podcast Good Hang, for, well, a casual hang and chuckling convo. Accompanying her was her new furry bestie, her dog Tokyo. With Tokyo on her lap, Dakota suddenly whipped up her hand and excitedly shared, "Look at my nails. I have a French manicure, very not me. But Tokyo has one. I though it'd be funny if we (matched) had the same nails". So did Dakota actually take Tokyo to a nail bar to get those paws tinted? Not really. "I think it's because she has a calcium deficiency. But she has a little, natural French tip", the actor clarified. A post shared by College Fashionista (@cfashionista) So how did Tokyo waltz into Dakota's life? The actor shared, "We rescued her on Saturday from the Santa Barbara pound. I didn't plan on it". It of course hasn't been long, but she seems pretty besotted with her new fur baby: "She's a performe. Honestly, she has come alive on camera. She normally hides in the back of her crate. She's really timid. And now she's like, here I am", Dakota quipped. Believably, Dakota has always been a dog person. The actor lost her 17-year old dog, Zepplin, last December. After that, she understandably felt that it was going to be a while before she came around to having another dog. But with Tokyo, it was clearly love at first sight: "But then I saw her, and she's an angel!", she exclaimed. Coming back to Materialists, the film will be hitting theatres on June 13.

Sandra Bullock sent a voice note to Dakota Johnson after Razzie win; called her ‘part of the club': 'There are a lot of good people who..'
has had a whirlwind few months. Along with rumours of her breakup with Coldplay frontman after being together for eight years, Dakota was also awarded a Razzie for Worst Actress for her performance in 'Madame Web'. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The superhero film, which saw Johnson play Cassandra Webb – a paramedic with precognitive powers – was a critical and box office failure. It was criticised for its weak screenplay, underwhelming performances and messy execution. It even bagged the Razzie for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay. 's kind voice note But in the middle of all this chaos, Johnson received a sweet and unexpected message from none other than Sandra Bullock. While speaking on 's Good Hang podcast, Dakota shared how Sandra reached out to her after the Razzie announcement. 'There's a lot of good people who have won that,' Dakota said, adding that Sandra Bullock left her a voice note saying, 'I heard you are in the Razzie club. We should have brunch, a monthly Razzie brunch.' Sandra Bullock had once famously won both an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year back in 2010, which made her message all the more meaningful and comforting. Dakota's reaction: 'I was freaking out' The supportive voice note left a strong impression on Johnson. She couldn't hide her excitement, calling Sandra Bullock 'so iconic' and confessing that she was 'freaking out' after hearing from her. The message may have been light-hearted, but it carried a deeper meaning. It reminded Dakota that even the most talented actors face setbacks, and that true support in Hollywood can come in the most unexpected ways – like a voice note encouraging a monthly Razzie brunch. 'Madame Web': A misfire for Sony The film 'Madame Web', released as part of Sony's Spider-Verse, turned out to be a big disappointment. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, Dakota made it clear that the film's creative direction wasn't in her hands. In a previous interview with the Los Angeles Times, she bluntly said, 'It's not my fault,' distancing herself from the film's flaws. Audiences also had mixed reactions. Our official ETimes rating for the film stood at 2.5 stars out of 5. The review read: 'The whole attempt to infuse some family feel into the story with Cassie's colleague O'Neil (Mike Epps) and his pregnant sister-in-law Mary Parker (Emma Roberts) is so half-hearted. In conclusion, 'Madame Web' falls short of making a significant impact within the superhero genre, serving more as a tepid introduction than a compelling addition to an already saturated universe.' Despite the criticism, Dakota Johnson's honest response, and Sandra Bullock's supportive gesture, made for a heart-warming moment that many fans appreciated.
