NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky makes huge decision on ESPN future after dropping exit hint before the Super Bowl
Once a journeyman quarterback desperate for another chance in the NFL, ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky suddenly became the subject of intense interest from rival networks before deciding to return to the Worldwide Leader, according to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand.
The new deal hasn't been signed yet, but according to Marchand, Orlovsky will continue appearing on NFL Live as well as ESPN's Monday Night Football.
That could come as a surprise to some after Orlovsky appeared to indicate in February that his time on the network could be winding down.
'I'm taking a break, won't be on TV for a long time,' Orlovsky told ESPN's First Take. 'Never know what the future holds but I'm taking a break... just want to say thank you. Appreciate you guys so much.'
According to Marchand, Orlovsky did have talks with CBS about joining their Big Ten broadcasts, but he apparently declined and that network went with Charles Davis instead.
The 41-year-old Orlovsky joined ESPN in 2018 after an unremarkable 12-year NFL career, most of which was spent serving as a backup.
Daily Mail has reached out to ESPN spokespeople for comment.
Unlike the gridiron, where he went 2-10 as an NFL starter, Orlovsky has enjoyed success on television. First he became a popular contributor on NFL Live alongside Laura Rutledge, Marcus Spears and Mina Kimes, and has since called some games with Chris Fowler and Louis Riddick Jr. as well.
He did take some criticism in October for a Halloween segment on First Take in which he asked why 'black dudes smell better than white dudes.'
The question led to a brief moment of silence on the set where Stephen A. Smith, co-host Molly Querim, and Jason McCourty all appeared stunned by the question.
'The amount of cringe in the room once Dan said this was palpable. This is what ESPN has become,' wrote one user on X.
Another user on the social media site said, 'we as a society have moved past the need for Dan Orlovsky to be on television.'
'I pray for the day ESPN stops allowing clown s**t like this,' said another user.

Les Miserables, what else. The hit musical about anti-government protest is now showing at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Donald Trump was in the audience for Wednesday's performance for what amounts to a busman's holiday. The narrative explores issues of social justice, love, and the enduring power of human compassion amidst a backdrop of poverty and revolution. Not everyone shares the president's vision of those themes. Indeed his presence drew what can only be described as mixed reviews from his fellow theatre goers - cheers and boos in equal measure as he waved from the front row of the circle. The script of Les Miserables barely presents a break from the day job - Trump won't be the only one getting a sense of art imitating life, as the real thing plays out on the streets of LA. It is the first show the president has chosen to attend since he made sweeping changes at the iconic venue, prompting an outcry and accusations that he was politicising art and 'MAGAfying' the venerated institution. According to CNN, a number of Les Miserables cast members had planned to sit out the performance in protest. The Kennedy Center is a prestigious venue that showcases the best of American performance art. More than 2,000 shows per year include the famous honours ceremony, an annual event that celebrates artists who have made a significant contribution to US culture. Honourees through the years have included Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, the Grateful Dead and Francis Ford Coppola. Following his election in November, Trump made himself chairman of the Kennedy Center's board and replaced members with political loyalists. Traditionally, the board has been made up of individuals from across the political spectrum; after his election, Trump got rid of 18 members and replaced them with political soulmates, including his chief of staff Susie Wiles and Fox presenters Laura Ingraham and Maria Bartiromo. Donald Trump signalled a change in artistic direction at the Kennedy Center when he wrote on social media of "Drag shows specifically targeting our youth", and said of its production schedule: "We didn't like what they were showing, we're going to make sure it's good and it's not going to be woke." His changes prompted a number of acts to cancel shows at the venue in protest. Ex-UCLA All-American, longtime pro David Greenwood dies
June 12 - Former UCLA standout and longtime NBA player David Greenwood has died. He was 68. According to UCLA, Greenwood died Sunday in Riverside, Calif., after a battle with cancer. Greenwood was the No. 2 overall pick of the 1979 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. The Los Angeles Lakers won the coin toss for No. 1 pick and picked legendary Magic Johnson. Greenwood was a four-year starter for the Bruins and averaged 14.8 points and 8.7 rebounds in 118 games at UCLA. He was one of the final recruits of legendary coach John Wooden but the "Wizard of Westwood" retired months before Greenwood stepped on campus in the fall of 1975. Greenwood was a two-time conference player of the year and a two-time first-team All-American, stemming his strong junior and senior campaigns. He averaged 17.5 and 11.4 rebounds as a junior in 1977-78 and followed up with averages of 19.9 points and 10.3 rebounds. He still ranks fourth on the school's all-time rebounding list with 1,022. According to the school, Greenwood ranks third in program history with 52 games of 10 or more rebounds, topped only by legends Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) with 78 and Bill Walton with 75. Greenwood's 49 double-doubles also stand third. Greenwood was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021, and the Pac-12 Hall of Honor in 2017. In the NBA, Greenwood averaged 10.2 points and 7.9 rebounds in 823 games (582 starts) and was a member of the Detroit Pistons' NBA title team in 1990. "We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Piston, David Greenwood, a member of the 1990 NBA Championship team," the Pistons said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones at this time." He played with four teams, including six seasons with the Bulls (1979-85). He averaged a career-high 16.3 points as a rookie and averaged more than nine rebounds as a game on five occasions in his NBA career.
