Brawl erupts in airport after man slapped woman for refusing to get up from seat next to his wife
The brawl unfolded after the aggressor, Héctor Santacruz, walked over to the bench at Gate 9 in El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on Sunday night and asked Claudia Segura to stand up from her seat.
A heated discussion ensued, in which Segura declined to give up her seat so that Santacruz could sit next to his wife, Karen de Santacruz.
Santacruz towered over Segura, as the argument escalated and he suddenly slapped her cell phone out of her hands and struck her in the face.
Three passengers, including a woman, intervened to defend Segura as they shoved the man back, before his own wife stood up and got involved.
Multiple people could be heard shouting at Santacruz for attacking Segura.
A separate video showed Segura lying on her back while she was tended to by an airport work.
Santacruz's wife gathered their belongings as he was escorted by an airport police officer.
Segura, who is a government contractor, told El Tiempo newspaper that the was waiting for her flight to depart and was looking for a place to sit so that she could continue to work on her laptop.
'When I got to the waiting area, everything was completely full, and I only saw one empty chair,' she recalled. 'I didn't have any bags or clothes on me to indicate it was occupied, so I sat down.'
Segura said that Santacruz's wife told her that the seat was occupied but she countered by telling her that it was not occupied.
She had just finished a work-related phone call when Santacruz threatened her and said: 'Get up or I'll get you up.'
Segura held her ground when Santacruz turned to another passenger and asked them to make sure they were recording the showdown.
'He hits me on the hand, knocks off my phone, and hits me hard in the face and head. The magnitude of the impact knocked my earring off,' she said.
Segura said that the police took her to a local urgent care center in the town of Engativá for a medical evaluation and that she had to share the same vehicle as her attacker.
'I am affected and very afraid,' she said.
Santacruz's wife released a video apology on Wednesday and condemned his behavior after her design business was bombarded with criticism.
'The person shown physically assaulting a woman is my husband. And you don't know how much it hurts me to say this out loud,' Karen said. 'And it really hurts me as a woman, as a mother, as the founder of Khala, because all of this goes against what we want, what we've been working on for so many years.'
'I know that when things like this happen, it's easy to point fingers, judge, and dismiss,' she added. 'But I also know that many of us have made mistakes at some point in our lives.
'But as the old saying goes, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. This doesn't mean it's right, because it isn't.
'No, I don't condone it, I don't approve of it, and I won't remain silent. I reject it from the bottom of my heart because I believe in dignity, in boundaries, and in respect.'

Russian attack kills three in Zaporizhzhia region, governor says
Aug 3 (Reuters) - A Russian attack killed three people in southeastern Zaporizhzhia region on Sunday, the regional governor said, as Moscow's forces press on with their slow advance westward along the 1,000-km (620-mile) front line with Ukraine. Governor Ivan Fedorov, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said the three people were killed in the daytime strike on the town of Stepnohirsk. Private homes were destroyed. Reuters could not independently confirm the report. In Kamianske, a town a few kilometers south of Stepnohirsk on the Dnipro River in Zaporizhzhia region, a military spokesman said on Saturday that Ukrainian troops were holding on to their positions despite Russian attempts to take control. Fedorov's account came amid reports in recent days of new Russian military action in Ukraine's east and southeast. Ukraine's top commander said Moscow's forces were changing their tactics, using smaller sabotage units in a bid to push forward with their drive through eastern Donetsk region. Russian forces have focused their drive on parts of Donetsk region, particularly the logistics center of Pokrovsk, under Russian attack for months. Russia's Defence Ministry said on Thursday its forces had scored a major gain by capturing the town of Chasiv Yar, to the northeast, after months of fighting, though Ukraine has not acknowledged this. Russia's Defence Ministry on Saturday said it had taken control of another village closer to Pokrovsk. Denis Pushilin, the Russia-installed head of parts of Donetsk region under Moscow's control, said in a video posted online on Sunday the capture of Chasiv Yar, located on high ground would enable them to make further gains. Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukraine's top commander, writing on Facebook on Saturday, said his forces faced the fiercest fighting around Pokrovsk and in two other sectors. "At the same time, the Russians are resorting to the tactic of 'total infiltration' with the increase of sabotage actions in our rear," he wrote. "It is in this way that they are trying to enter Pokrovsk." Ukrainian forces, he said, had set up "counter-sabotage reserves, whose task is to seek out and destroy enemy reconnaissance and sabotage groups."

Are Ukrainian's turning on Zelensky?: Multiple casualties reported after civilians 'attack draft officer with bats and metal pipes' in Mykolaiv Oblast
Multiple casualties have been reported after Ukrainian officials alleged that a group of bat and pipe-wielding civilians attacked a draft officer. Officials said the incident took place at 2pm local time in the small village of Buzke in Mykolaiv Oblast. They said that the civilians, who have not yet been identified, were 'armed with bats and metal pipes' and 'damaged a vehicle and inflicted bodily injuries on a soldier.' In response to the attack, the soldier is said to have 'a shot with a non-lethal ammunition device.' The attack left an unspecified number of Ukrainian soldiers and police, as well as civilians injured. Cops are now investigating the incident, and warned dissidents that insulting the 'honour and dignity' of soldiers, as well as threatening violence against them, was punishable by up to five years in prison. It added that bringing harm to soldiers could result in up to 12 years imprisonment. From the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky faced an uphill battle with his countrymen, who resisted the enforced conscription into the country's military. Just two days ago protesters in the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia broke into a stadium where roughly 100 men were being held by military enlistment officers. Cops arrested several demonstrators. It comes as a Ukrainian drone attack sparked a fire at an oil depot in Sochi, the Russian resort that hosted the 2014 Winter Olympic which is 250 miles from the Ukrainian border, authorities said Sunday. Ukraine has regularly hit Russian oil and gas infrastructure in response to attacks on its own territory since Russia began its offensive in February 2022. 'Sochi suffered a drone attack by the Kyiv regime last night,' the governor of Russia's Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratiev, said on Telegram. He said drone wreckage hit an 'oil tank, which caused a fire' during the night-time attack. Sochi's mayor, Andrei Proshunin, said there were no victims and that the fire was put out several hours later. Images, broadcast by Russian media but whose authenticity AFP could not verify, showed flames and a thick plumes of black smoke rising from the site. Air traffic was briefly suspended at Sochi airport, Russia's air transport regulator Rosaviatsia said. Ukraine authorities have not commented on the fire. Air strikes on Sochi are relatively rare compared to some other Russian cities. However, Ukrainian drone attacks killed two people there late last month, according to local authorities.
