Tonawanda man charged with distributing child pornography
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Tonawanda man was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with distribution of child pornography, the United States District Attorney's Office announced Monday.
On Dec. 19, 2024, Shawn Demmick, 33, allegedly uploaded eight files, which included images and photos of child pornography, with another user or group of users on Kik, a messaging application, officials said.
Demmick's username was listed in the report as 'sirbannedalot.' An investigation traced the account to Demmick.
The charge of distribution of child pornography carries a minimum penalty of five years in prison and a maximum of 20.

Man from Ghana charged after alleged blackmail of Buffalo victim
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man from Ghana faces an extortion charge after he allegedly used nude photographs of a victim in Buffalo to blackmail him, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Cross Abu Cole, 21, possessed nude photographs of the Buffalo male when he was a minor, according to a complaint made by the victim in October 2022. Cole then allegedly demanded $200 be sent to him otherwise he would send the photos to people the victim knew on Snapchat. The man also possessed a nude photo of the victim's friend, officials said. Numerous threats for money were made and nude photographs were sent out. An investigation traced the telephone number threats to Cole. He was taken into custody in Texas and was charged by criminal complaint with interstate communications with intent to extort. Cole faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Ohio man investigated after AI-generated child porn found, says he did it for ‘shock factor'
An Ohio man is in jail after investigators discovered AI-generated child sexual abuse material. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The investigation began in January 2025 when a task force received multiple reports of a Kik user uploading suspected child sexual abuse material, our news partners at WBNS reported. Most of the reports shared an IP address, which was traced to a duplex in Columbus. Authorities began surveillance on the Columbus duplex and identified a vehicle registered to a family member of the suspect. By March 2025, investigators learned the suspect and his family had moved to Hilliard. On April 29, investigators obtained a search warrant for the new address. He also admitted to viewing and sharing child sexual abuse material 'for the shock factor,' the affidavit says. According to the affidavit, investigators say Pittman had used a family photo containing juveniles and digitally altered it to depict the children nude. Several altered files included a note reading 'Powered by AI-generated.' Pittman was discharged from the Army under 'Other than Honorable' conditions, court documents state. Pittman was formally charged with additional federal crimes related to the production and possession of morphed or AI-generated child pornography.
