Silat instructor claims trial to sexual assault charges against three male students
Faizul Yusoff, 54, was charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy in a hotel room at Kampung Semut Api Badang, Jalan Pantai Cahaya Bulan (PCB), at 9.00 pm on Feb 13 and at 3.00 am on Feb 14, 2025.
He also faces a charge of committing sexual assault against a 17-year-old victim at a homestay in Kampung Talang Kadok at 1.00 am on Nov 13, 2023.
Additionally, he is charged with a similar offence involving another 17-year-old victim, allegedly committed at a homestay in Kubang Golok, Bachok, at 3.00 am on Jan 28 this year.
He was charged under Sections 14(a) and 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and caning, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by Nur Alyaa Mohd Zain from the Kelantan Legal Aid Foundation.
Earlier, Kamarul Hasyime objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charges.
However, Nur Alyaa applied for minimal bail, citing that her client has no fixed income as he works solely as a silat instructor and is supporting five children.
Judge Zulkifli Abllah granted bail at RM10,000 for each charge with one surety, prohibited the accused from interfering with the victims and to report to the nearest police station monthly.
The case has been fixed for mention on July 27.

Fisherman fined RM10,000 for bribing maritime officer
ALOR STAR: A fisherman was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to an alternative charge of attempting to bribe a senior officer from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). Jamri Abdul Razak, 28, made the guilty plea before Judge N, Priscilla Hemalini, today. He settled the fine immediately. According to the facts of the case, Jamri had offered RM5,000 in cash to a senior assistant director from the agency on June 22, 2022. The bribe was intended as an inducement for the officer to release seven undocumented migrants who had been detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and remaining in Malaysia without valid passes or permits. The offence was committed at the Kedah/Perlis MMEA office in Langkawi. The offence falls under Section 214 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, or a fine or both, if convicted. The prosecution was handled by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Mohd Zulfadli Azharudin, while the accused was unrepresented. The court also ordered the RM5,000 in bribe money to be forfeited to the government through the MACC.

Ex-madrasah principal jailed 112 years for sexually assaulting 6 boys
MUAR: A former madrasah principal was sentenced to 112 years in jail and 32 strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here today to sexually assaulting six male students in 2022. The jail sentences for 16 charges of sexual assault will run concurrently, so Abdul Hadi Harun, 37, will serve seven years in prison. Judge Sayani Mohd Nor handed down the sentence after considering arguments from the prosecution and defence. Abdul Hadi was accused of committing the offences against students aged 12 and 13 at a madrasah toilet and a house in Batu Pahat between May and June 29, 2022. Abdul Hadi, a widower, was charged under sections 14(a), 14(b) and 14(d) and Section 16 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. Section 14 provides for up to 20 years in jail and caning, while Section 16 provides for an additional sentence, up to five years in jail and not less than two strokes of the cane. According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who is part of the madrasah's management, made a report on June 30, 2022 about a student being molested by the accused, who was then the principal. Police investigations found six victims. Abdul Hadi was arrested at 9.45pm on the same day. Investigation also found that the accused threatened some victims to stay silent. Deputy public prosecutor Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi prosecuted, while the accused was represented by Mohd Razak Shariff. The court sentenced Abdul Hadi to five years in jail for each charge under Section 14 and two years in jail and two strokes of the cane for charges under Section 16.

Defence trial of Bung Moktar and wife postponed to Sept 2
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here has postponed the defence trial proceedings of Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad on three corruption charges to Sept 2. Judge Rosli Ahmad decided this after allowing an application by lawyer Teh See Khoon, representing Zizie Izette, for the hearing, which had been set for on Monday (Aug 18), to be postponed due to the absence of lead counsel Datuk Seri K. Kumaraendran. "Kumaraendran is unwell… and he is still undergoing treatment," said Teh, who is handling the case with lawyer M. Athimulan, representing Bung Moktar. The court also vacated the trial dates, which had been set for on Tuesay (Aug 19) and Wednesday (Aug 20). Deputy Public Prosecutor Law Chin How, however, objected to the application. On May 22, a three-member Court of Appeal panel led by Justice Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali unanimously dismissed the couple's application for leave to review the decision ordering them to enter their defence on the corruption charges. Justice Che Mohd Ruzima, who sat with Court of Appeal judges Datuk Azizul Azmi Adnan and Datuk Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid, said the couple failed to demonstrate exceptional circumstances or a miscarriage of justice that would justify a review of the ruling. On Nov 18, 2024, a Court of Appeal panel led by Justice Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim allowed the prosecution's appeal and overturned the High Court's decision to acquit Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette, ordering both to enter their defence. Bung Moktar, 65, who was then the non-executive chairman of Felcra Berhad, was charged on May 3, 2019, with two charges of accepting bribes of RM2.2mil and RM262,500 as an inducement to obtain Felcra's approval to invest RM150mil in Public Mutual unit trusts. He was alleged to have accepted the bribes from Public Mutual Berhad's investment agent Madhi Abdul Hamid through Zizie Izette, 46, at Public Bank Taman Melawati Branch, Kuala Lumpur, between 12.30pm and 5pm on June 12, 2015. Bung Moktar was also charged with receiving RM337,500 in cash from Unit Amanah consultant, Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar, under the name of Zizie Izette for the same reason and place on June 19, 2015, while Zizie Izette was charged with three counts of abetting her husband over the matter at the same place, date and time. – Bernama
