Greenville High mourns death of longtime athletic director
GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Greenville High School announced the passing of longtime athletic director Steve Scolamiero Sunday morning after a battle with skin cancer.
Greenville Senior High School said in Facebook post that Scolamiero died early Sunday morning following his third battle with melanoma.
Scolamiero was the athletic director at Greenville High for 15 years. He was a three-time region coach of the year as the head baseball coach from 2007 to 2014.

Ananda Lewis, a former MTV VJ, has died at the age of 52. Lakshmi Emory, whom Lewis once described as a 'phenomenal sister' in a birthday message, shared news of her death in a June 11 Facebook post. 'She's free, and in His heavenly arms,' she wrote next to a black-and-white photo of Lewis. 'Lord, rest her soul.' Emory did not share additional details, including Lewis' cause of death. Lewis was an MTV staple in the late '90s, hosting 'Total Request Live' and video countdown show'Hot Zone.' She also hosted her own talk show 'The Ananda Lewis Show' in 2001. Lewis was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2019, but later revealed that she opted against the double mastectomy doctors recommended at the time. In a January 2025 op-ed for Essence, Lewis shared that she tried alternative methods to monitor her breast cancer, including cuting out alcohol, sugar, monthly ultrasounds, high-dose vitamin C IVs, hyperbaric chamber sessions and qigong exercise, among others. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she discovered that her tumor had grown and underwent genetically targeted fractionated chemotherapy, which is a treatment that destroys cancer cells without harming healthy ones, according to Cleveland Clinic. However, a PET scan done in October 2023 confirmed that her cancer had progressed to Stage 4 cancer. This time, she shared that she underwent treatment at an integrative facility. While Lewis had previously said she regretted refusing to undergo mammograms out of fear of radiation exposure, she urged the importance of women getting informed and learning about prevention. In her 2025 Essence piece, she wrote, 'Going into 2025, I would say to women: Do everything in your power to avoid my story becoming yours. If I had known what I know now 10 years ago, perhaps I wouldn't have ended up here.' Adding, 'I encourage people to look at the information and studies that exist. Seek them out, learn from them and apply the changes to your life, so that you can continue to thrive and live as long as you can.' This article was originally published on

Former Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert responds to being reunited with Justin Fields Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields seems to have found himself a new opportunity to seize a major role in the NFL with the New York Jets after signing a two-year deal with the club. A byproduct of that is that he gets a chance to reconnect with a couple of other former Buckeyes that he played with in Columbus. We've already heard from receiver Garrett Wilson on his excitement to play with the former Heisman Finalist and first-round NFL draft pick, but the electric receiver isn't the only former OSU player donning a Jets uniform. Former tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who played for Ohio State from 2018 to 2021, got to block for and catch passes from Fields on the banks of the Olentangy for two years. So yeah, he too has some history with the guy the Jets' brass hopes turns around the fortunes of the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Ruckert was asked by the New York media what it means to be playing with his college teammate again, and was excited more for the team than himself. "Any time you get a chance to reconnect with one of your teammates, whether it's in the League or college, it's great,: Ruckert told reporters. "I'm excited where we're going as a team and the culture we're setting, and I think he's (Fields) perfect for that role, and just these last couple of weeks to get back on the same page and get our timing right with all the guys. It's been special to be a part of that, but also kind of get the other guys rolling and continue to grow as a unit." If you are an Ohio State fan, there aren't too many storylines that jump out more than what Fields does in New York. If he can use his athletic gifts the right way and still find a way to stay poised and present in the pocket, we could see a budding star coming to light just a little later than we thought. The transfer portal dictates how college football rosters are shaped today, with UNC being a prime example heading into its 2025 season. One key player who decided to stay a Tar Heels is sophomore wide receiver Jordan Shipp, who caught nine passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in 2024. Shipp recently spoke on his decision to stay. "It's hard to transfer from a school that you love so much," Shipp told the media. "I've had a lot of friends that came here, a lot of friends that have been successful here – and it's also hard to leave the greatest coach of all time. Knowing you have one of the greatest coaches of all time coming here, it wouldn't have been smart for me to leave.' With no J.J. Jones or Nate McCollum, expect to see Shipp earn starting minutes in 2025. Joining Shipp in the wideout room are Michigan State transfer Aziah Johnson, Colorado transfer Adrian Wilson and Washington transfer Jason Robinson Jr., while the likes of Javarius Green, Chris Culliver and Paul Billups are 2024 holdovers.
