MS Dhoni continues to draw attention after induction in ICC Hall of Fame, gets felicitated by JSCA President
The recent induction of Mahendra Singh Dhoni into the elite ICC Hall of Fame has brought him back into the public eye, following a period of relative quiet after the conclusion of IPL 2025. Dhoni had maintained discretion regarding his IPL future after Chennai Super Kings' final match of the season, thereby keeping open the possibility of his return for the subsequent season.
As expected, Dhoni maintained his usual social media silence after returning to Ranchi post-IPL, preserving the typical suspense surrounding his personal life. However, his introduction to the ICC Hall of Fame has put him back in the limelight.
Dhoni was joined by Australian batting great Matthew Hayden, the South African duo of Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla, and former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, as five men's cricketers were added to the list. Also inducted into the elite group were former England wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor and ex-Pakistan captain Sana Mir.
Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) president Ajay Nath Shahdeo felicitated and paid tribute to Dhoni for his illustrious legacy and entry into the elite list.
'Heartiest congratulations to #Mahi @mahi7781 on his #ICCHallOfFame induction! Had the pleasure of meeting him and celebrating this remarkable achievement. Wishing #Mahi continued success and admiration from fans worldwide!' Shahdeo wrote in an Instagram post, sharing a photograph from the meeting.

As Test captain, Dhoni led India in 60 matches, achieving 27 victories, 15 defeats, and 18 draws. In the ODI format, he set an Indian record, captaining in 200 matches, securing 110 wins against 74 losses. Additionally, five ODIs under his command concluded in a tie, and eleven were declared no results.
A legendary finisher in ODIs, Dhoni scored 10,773 runs in 350 matches at 50.57 with 10 centuries and 73 fifties.
He scored 4,876 runs in 90 Tests at a little over 38 with six tons and 33 fifties, while Dhoni scored 1,617 runs in 98 T20Is at 37.60 with two fifties.
Dhoni also reacted after getting into the ICC Hall of Fame and said he will cherish it forever.
'It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever,' Dhoni was quoted as saying in an ICC press release.

WTC 2025 Final: South Africa need to show more intent on Day 2, says Matthew Hayden
Mitchell Starc celebrates after picking up a wicket on Day 1 of WTC 2025 Final vs SA. (Photo: AP) The WTC 2025 Final Day 1 ended on an even keel with defending champions Australia striking back with the ball after being bowled out for 212. Pat Cummins-led side reduced South Africa to 43 for 4 as 14 wickets fell on an exciting opening day at Lord's in London on Wednesday. Former Australia opener and new inductee to ICC Hall of Fame, Matthew Hayden believes that Temba Bavuma's side need to show more 'intent' on the second if they hope to remain on top in this title clash. JioStar expert Matthew Hayden offered a session-by-session breakdown after Day 1. 'I'm not entirely convinced it was Australia's day. South Africa won the first session, and Australia's comeback in the final session—nine wickets in all—was surprising. The conditions were odd: cloudy for half the day and sunny for the other half. Batting should have been easier, but it wasn't,' Hayden said. 'I'd say maybe 80% in Australia's favour, largely because of South Africa's lack of intent. That started with Temba Bavuma. As a captain, it's not just about bowling changes—it's also about setting the tone with the bat. He showed little vigour, and that's dangerous when facing three world-class fast bowlers in conditions that suit them. They need to come out with more intent on Day 2. Any signs of aggression—even those few boundaries late in the day—will help. But if they don't, Australia will come into Day 2 as firm favourites.' Proteas captain Temba Bavuma shows positive intent early on Day 2 💪 Catch the action live on our official broadcasters here ➡ #Cricket #CricketReels #WTC25 — ICC (@ICC) June 12, 2025 Taking cue from Hayden, the Proteas have started the second day on a positive note. Skipper Bavuma, who tool 31 balls to get off the mark on the opening day, survived a torrid spell from Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood before opening up. But just when he was starting to look good in the middle while batting on 36, he gave a catch to Marnus Labuschagne in the covers off Cummins. Bavuma's knock was studded with 4 fours and a six. The SA skipper's wicket ended a 63-run partnership for the 5th wicket with David Bedingham. South Africans had put on 51 runs on the second day before Aussies finally got the breakthrough. JioStar expert Sanjay Bangar assessed the balance of Day 1 of the match. 'Clearly, it was Australia's day. They were on the back foot during the first session when South Africa bowled brilliantly — just 66 runs and four wickets in two hours. Then came a fightback through the Smith–Webster partnership. South Africa tried to claw back, but by losing four wickets later, they handed the advantage back to Australia. With the amount of seam movement on this pitch, the scoreboard doesn't reflect a par score. Australia is in a strong position,' former Team India assistant coach Bangar said. JioStar expert and former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn reflected on Mitchell Starc's impact with the ball. 'He's really quick through the air, and I certainly think he rushes a lot of batsmen. When you're a bit nervous and your feet aren't moving the way you want — just like Aiden Markram — he was caught in the crease, unsure whether to go forward or not. Starc had already gone past the bat a few times, maybe even beaten him on the inside edge once or twice. Then Rickelton decided he could hit it through the covers, and, the best Test bowlers in the world have this ability to pull their length back just slightly. A batter thinks he's got it covered, but then it kicks up, moves just a little more, finds the edge. 'That's what Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood have done so well over the years. But it's also about big-match temperament. He's done it before, he believes he can do it again—and when he does, it becomes a habit. He also builds a reputation. He gets the backing of his captain. We know how he's going to do it, and if you look at his wickets, they're all very similar.'

India vs England 2025: Coach Brendon McCullum names THIS star cricketer as new 'leader' in team, he is Virat Kohli's teammate, his name is…
RCB all-rounder Jacob Bethell is getting ready to face India in five-match Test series. (Photo: IANS) England will begin five-match Test series against Team India for 'Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy' next week from June 20 onwards at Headingley in Leeds. The first Test will see the return of young all-rounder Jacob Bethell to the England Test team after missing the one-off Test against Zimbabwe last month. England head coach Brendon McCullum has dubbed Bethell as one of the 'leader' in the side which will be captained by all-rounder Ben Stokes. Bethell was bought for Rs 2.6 crore by IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. He is only 21 years of age will be among players to watch as a new-look English squad begin their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2025-27 against India, who are themselves transitioning from retirements of star cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma from Tests and Ravichandran Ashwin in international cricket. The RCB all-rounder impressed during the white-ball series against West Indies, scoring knocks of 82 and 17 in ODIs, while playing quickfire cameos of 23 not out, 26 and 36 not out during T20Is. He also picked two wickets in the ODI series and four in T20Is, sealing his reputation as a solid all-round package. In three Tests, Bethell is already averaging 52 with 3 fifties to his name including a best of 96. Jacob Bethell. En fuego 🔥 — England Cricket (@englandcricket) May 29, 2025 Speaking to Sky Sports, McCullum said about Bethell, 'Bethell has a good life in front of him. For a 21-year-old, he's got a real poise, and that allows him to go out there and be present and show off his flair and talent. 'The world is his oyster. He is already becoming a leader in the dressing room which is what you want,' he continued. The England head coach also said that the pair of Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett in the white-ball, reminds him of the opening pair of Zak Crawley and Duckett in Tests. 'We know how good Duckett is, but the power that Smith possesses is amazing. These guys are fearless, and if you add the craft, then you hope you end up with a rounded player,' he concluded. Jamie Smith played as an opener during the white-ball series against England, scoring 37, 0 and 64 in ODIs, while he played knocks of 38, 4 and 60 in T20Is. On the other hand, Duckett made scores of 58, 0 and 60 in ODIs while he had knocks of 1, 30 and 84 in T20Is. The series will take place from June to August, with matches at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord's (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London). Jamie Overton has been handed a surprise recall to England's squad for the first Test against India after his Surrey team-mate Gus Atkinson was ruled out with a hamstring strain injury. Jacob Bethell, who partnered Virat Kohli as opener in RCB in Phil Salt's absence, has returned to the squad, while Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse are both back after missing England's win over Zimbabwe with niggles. England's squad has changed significantly since their 4-1 series defeat in India last year.

(Also Read: Bengaluru stampede: CID withdraws custody plea for RCB marketing head Nikhil Sosale and others) On Tuesday, the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) withdrew its request for the custodial interrogation of four individuals linked to the stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, Indian Express reported. The CID had initially sought nine days' custody of the accused to investigate lapses in planning and crowd control at the event. However, the move was challenged by senior advocate Sandesh Chouta, representing RCB's Head of Marketing, Nikhil Sosale, who pointed out that the matter was already under consideration by the High Court. The magistrate hearing the case also questioned the urgency of the CID's request, asking what could be achieved in just one day of custody before the High Court's verdict was expected. CID's Assistant Superintendent of Police, Jagadeesh, defended the need for interrogation, citing its relevance to investigating how the tragedy unfolded, the report added.
