Is Hennessey Trying to Build Its Own Mustang GTD?
On paper, it certainly sounds that way. The Super Venom makes 850 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, which Hennessey points out that those are boosts of 70 and 55 percent respectively over the stock Mustang Dark Horse the car is based on. It's worth noting that those numbers are slightly above and below the Mustang GTD's horsepower and torque, respectively.The company achieves those figures mostly through forced induction. A supercharger sits atop the intake plenum and gets paired up with high-flow fuel injectors, a high-flow fuel pump, a high-flow air intake, and custom engine mapping to keep everything safe. (Notably, Hennessey doesn't mention any internal changes to the 5.0-liter V-8.) All of it enables the Super Venom to go from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, the shop says, and on through the quarter-mile in 10.9.
Normally, Hennessey focuses primarily on straight-line performance, but in the Super Venom, it pulls out all the stops. This car boasts a ton of unique carbon fiber both outside and in. Some of it, such the fender louvers, mimic the design on the GTD — but they're fully functional, too. The cabin is full of unique touches, including a dash plaque, embossed backrests, and tons of Alcantara.
"Over the years we have only branded our most potent cars with our 'Venom' trademark: Venom Vipers, Venom GT, and most recently our Venom F5," he said in a statement. "We are excited to unveil our Super Venom Mustang as it offers supercar performance and can now be ordered directly from Ford dealers with a full warranty! Further, we are excited to commemorate our company's founding in 1991 by offering only 91 units and a unique '91 Icon' livery.'
Notably, each of those examples undercuts Mustang GTD pricing quite a bit. Those who want one will pay $163,950 to start, unless they opt to start with a a Mustang GT instead of a Dark Horse, in which case they'll spend $149,950. That's well beneath the $315,000 price tag of the 'Stang that lapped the 'Ring in under seven minutes.

After losing billions of dollars in its electric vehicle division over recent years, Ford has announced a massive pivot that will completely reimagine its vehicle assembly process, The New York Times reported. At the time, the company appeared poised to challenge Tesla for EV dominance in the U.S. market. However, in the years since, Ford's EV wing has suffered massive losses while Tesla has managed to significantly drop the price of its vehicles, making it more difficult for Ford to compete. According to the Times, Ford's EV division has lost an eyewatering $12 billion, including $2.2 billion in the first six months of 2025. Despite these losses, the U.S. electric vehicle market has demonstrated signs of consistent growth in recent years. For the first three months of 2025, EV sales in the U.S. increased by 11.4% compared to the previous year, with nearly 300,000 EVs sold, according to Cox Automotive. After previously announcing cutbacks to its EV program, Ford said it will be shifting to lower-cost materials, which should lower vehicle prices and help Ford better compete with new EVs coming out of China. "I'd say this puts them within spitting distance of the Chinese," Sandy Munro, an auto consultant and engineer, said of Ford's cost-saving moves, per the Times. Despite the billions of dollars at stake, Farley sought to manage expectations. "We are doing so many new things I can't tell you with 100 percent certainty that it will all go just right," Farley said, per the Times. Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon: Ford's $325,000 Mustang launches this October
Ford Motor Co. has revealed a new trim it will offer on its most expensive and fastest Mustang — the Mustang GTD. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker revealed the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon trim on Aug. 14 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, California. Ford chose this location for the reveal because this new trim is race-inspired. Ford spokesman Brandon Turkus said the Mustang GTD has a starting price of $325,000. The company is not sharing pricing for specific trims or options, but the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon trim is expected to come to market in October. This Liquid Carbon trim will use lightweight carbon fiber, a technology that plays a critical role in the GTD's body and performance, the company said in a release. Ford noted that carbon fiber is preferred for race cars' bodies. The Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon "skips a trip to the paint booth" Ford said by replacing paint with sheet metal in the doors. The bonded carbon-fiber saves 13 pounds of weight compared to a Mustang GTD Carbon Series with the Performance package. This weight reduction delivers better aerodynamics. 'Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is the ultimate expression of the Mustang GTD's high-tech, high-performance construction and is a reminder of the race-derived, cutting-edge capability that sits beneath the surface of every Mustang GTD,' Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall said in a statement. Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon will have an exposed carbon body and functional aerodynamics, Goodall said. It features a black Brembo brake caliper, matching an anodized body with gloss-black GTD script. Anodizing is a process that converts a metal surface into "a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish," according to Ford said the performance package will be standard on the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon trim.
