Girl, 13, who died alongside seven-year-old friend when barge struck their boat as they attended sailing camp

A 13-year-old girl from Chile has been identified as the second victim who died during the terrifying Miami sailboat crash.
Erin Co died while onboard the boat as part of the Miami Youth Sailing Foundation summer camp when it suddenly collided with a 60-foot barge around 11am Monday in Biscayne Bay.
Co was a student at San Pedro Nolasco School in Vitacura, Santiago, who recently moved to the US, the school said in a memorial post about her.
She died alongside seven-year-old Mila Yankelevich, who was previously identified by Argentine newspaper La Nacion.
They were among five children aboard the sunken sailboat. A 19-year-old camp counselor was also with them at the time.
Co and Yankelevich were pronounced dead while on their way to Ryder Trauma Center, per the Miami Herald.
Two other children, aged eight and 11, remain hospitalized in critical condition. The unidentified counselor and other child, 12, walked away unharmed.
The sailboat was part of the Miami Yacht Club's youth sailing program, but since the incident, the program has been suspended while authorities investigate.
The Coast Guard will look at both vessels. They have started recovering the sunken sailboat which will now be stored at the US Coast Guard base in Miami Beach.
Capt. Frank Florio, Commander of Coast Guard Sector Miami said alcohol testing was conducted and results are pending.
Florio said that the agency believes 'all of the girls were wearing life jackets' when the crash happened, based on interviews throughout the investigation.
The investigation could take several months to complete for officials to determine what caused the deadly crash.
A witness at the scene told WSVN that a crane on the barge 'completely destroyed the boat' carrying Mila and four other campers as well as the counselor.
'The boat just went under and I heard a girl shouting for help under the crane,' the witness recounted.
Nine-year-old Enzo Pifer Eddy also told CBS News how 'all the kids went flying' in the aftermath.
According to the Coast Guard's navigation rules, sailboats generally have the right of way over motorboats, but must yield the right of way to a vessel that is 'restricted in its ability to maneuver.'
Determining whether a tugboat that was seen pushing the barge in the clash will now likely be a central focus for Coast Guard investigators.
They said at a news conference they will also be questioning the captain of the barge as they noted that 'the area was safe for sailing' at the time.
However, Miami Yacht Club member Katie Flood-Reiss told the Miami Herald that the sailboat's 19-year-old instructor would have had no chance of evading the barge in the bay.
'In those conditions, with almost no wind, it would have been impossible to turn that sailboat around quickly,' she explained.
Yankelevich was the granddaughter of Cris Morena and Gustavo Yankelevich, two prominent Argentine producers.
Her father, Tomas Yankelevich, is also a producer and director, while her mother, Sofia Reca, is an actress in Argentina. The family lived in Surfside, Florida.
Yankelevich's grandmother called her 'my girl with wings, my happy and free little fairy,' in a now heartbreaking tribute she posted of her late granddaughter for her birthday in February.
The sailboat was part of the Miami Yacht Club's youth sailing program
She added in Spanish that their 'moments together [were] filled with dancing [and] songs' and said her granddaughter embodied 'the sun, freedom and hugs.'
One year prior, in another social media post, Morena called her granddaughter 'my cutest little girl in the world... My red heart, my everything.'
She went on to explain that she chose to include the song 'Todo Todo,' which translates to 'Everything, everything' for her slideshow 'because I believe that everything you wish for with your red heart, you will be able to have it...
'And always with a smile and that bright face looking at life, life will give you back a lot of light and a lot of love.'
Sadly, this is not the first time the Yankelevich family was struck by tragedy.
Morena and Gustavo, who passed away in 1995, had a daughter, Romino, who died in 2010 at the age of 36 from a heart attack.

3rd person arrested for allegedly helping a Tennessee fugitive wanted in family's killings

Police in Tennessee have charged a 23-year-old woman with assisting a man wanted in the murders of the parents, grandmother and uncle of an infant found alive miles away from the crime scene. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Dearrah Sanders of Jackson, Tennessee, was arrested on Monday and charged with being an accessory after the killings. Investigators also arrested two men over the weekend on similar charges, alleging they helped 28-year-old Austin Robert Drummond after the July 29 killings. Drummond remained on the run on Monday afternoon, the TBI said in a news release. Authorities have left many questions unanswered, including how the three people allegedly helped Drummond, the manner in which the victims were killed and how the baby ended up in a car seat in the Tigrett area, roughly 40 miles (64.37 kilometers) from the bodies. Last week, authorities said they found the car in Jackson that they believe Drummond had been driving. Authorities believe the family murders were a targeted attack by Drummond, who had a relationship with the victims, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David Rausch said. The baby is safe and being cared for. Officials have warrants for Drummond that charge him with four counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated kidnapping and weapons offenses. His criminal history includes prison time for robbing a convenience store and threatening to go after jurors. He was also charged with attempted murder while behind bars. Authorities have identified the four people found dead in Tiptonville as James M. Wilson, 21, and 20-year-old Adrianna Williams, the baby's parents; 15-year-old Braydon Williams and 38-year-old Cortney Rose, the mother of Adrianna Williams and Braydon Williams.

Greg Abbott threatens Democrats with bribery charges for stalling Texas vote

Texas governor Greg Abbott has threatened to file bribery charges against Democratic legislators who fled the state to prevent a vote on a controversial redistricting plan that would significantly favour least two-thirds of the 150-member state legislative body must be present to proceed with the vote. The quorum became unreachable when 51 Democratic lawmakers left the proposed congressional map, unveiled last week by Texas Republicans, would create more Republican seats in the US House of Representatives where they hold a slim majority currently. Abbott warned that lawmakers who refuse to return to vote on the map could face second-degree felony charges. "It would be bribery if any lawmaker took money to perform or to refuse to perform an act in the legislature," Abbott said on Fox News on Monday. "And the reports are these legislators have both sought money and offered money to skip the vote, to leave the legislature, to take a legislative act. That would be bribery."The governor also issued a letter to Democrats asking them to return to Texas by Monday afternoon."This truancy ends now," he wrote. "The derelict Democrat House members must return to Texas and be in attendance when the House reconvenes at 15:00 local time (20:00 GMT) on Monday," Abbott said in the letter released on late Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, had threatened to have the Democratic leaders wrote on X that the state should "use every tool at our disposal to hunt down those who think they are above the law".Most of the Democrats fled to Illinois where the state's Governor JB Pritzker said he was "going to do everything we can to protect every single one of them" amid arrest threats from Democrats said they planned to stay away from Texas for two weeks until the end of a special legislative session. "We will do whatever it takes. What that looks like, we don't know," Gene Wu, the Texas House Democratic Caucus leader, Republicans currently hold 25 out of 38 congressional seats in the Lone Star hope the new maps could increase that number to 30 - all in constituencies that President Donald Trump won last November by at least 10 party currently has 219 of 435 seats in the House, while Democrats hold 212. The redistricting could help pad the slender Republican majority in the House, which is the lower chamber of public escalation over the proposed redistricting in Texas has led other states' leaders to suggest they may redraw their own legislative maps to counter the proposed losses of seats in Texas. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she was exploring a constitutional amendment to move up the timeline to redraw legislative lines in her state. New York - alongwith California, Colorado and Washington - assigns redistricting to non-partisan, independent commissions, rather than the state typically undergo redistricting every 10 years, when voting maps are redrawn to account for population most recent US Census was in 2020. Redrawing district lines in the middle of a decade is unusual.

AOC busted for bending rules with fiancé Riley Roberts as he scores thousands worth of perks and freebies for spouses only

The House Committee on Ethics has rebuked Progressive 'Squad' Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for claiming in government filings that her fiancé both is and is not her 'spouse.' Ocasio-Cortez, 35, a Democrat from New York, was criticized by the ethics committee in its July 2025 report for listing her fiancé Riley Roberts as her 'spouse' on federal documents she filed to attend the 2021 Met Gala, despite the two not being legally married. 'The Committee also found evidence that Representative Ocasio-Cortez listed Mr. Roberts as her 'spouse' on paperwork filed with the House relating to privately sponsored travel, although the two were not legally married at the time of the gifted travel,' the report on Ocasio-Cortez's gala appearance said. The ethics panel also found that while Roberts was listed as spouse on the gala documents, he was not listed as a spouse in AOC's financial filings. If he was, he would have had to disclose his stock and other holdings, something every other spouse typically must do. 'The Committee further notes that at the same time Representative Ocasio-Cortez was seeking to take advantage of exceptions to the Gift Rule only applicable to spouses and/or certain relatives, she was not disclosing Mr. Roberts's financial interests as is required of Members who are legally married.' Additionally, the congresswoman was ordered to payback thousands of dollars by the ethics panel last month for not paying market rates for payments related to her 2021 Met Gala appearance. The committee found that AOC underpaid for her infamous red and white 'Tax the Rich' dress, jewelry and accessories she wore to the glamorous event organized annually by Vogue boss Anna Wintour. Once the congresswoman pays an additional $2,700 to vendors for the clothing and accessories, the Democrat's investigation will be considered closed, the ethics panel wrote in its July 2025 report. They noted she's been cooperative in the probe. Wintour personally invited AOC and Roberts to the event, something the ethics committee later criticized in its July 2025 report. AOC leaves the Carlyle hotel for the Met Gala on September 13, 2021. The House Committee on Ethics reported last month that once the lawmaker pays an additional $2,700 to vendors for her dress and accessories the probe into the matter will be considered closed The political star has been engaged to Roberts since he proposed during a vacation to Puerto Rico in April 2022. The pair met as undergraduate students at Boston University. Within the filings, AOC's attorney David Mitrani argued that the Democrat's partner is not subject to 'financial disclosure guidance [because] Mr. Roberts is not considered a spouse.' Despite not being subject to spousal financial disclosures, the committee notes how Roberts did reap the benefits of being an official congressional spouse. One of the perks Roberts enjoyed was receiving an official spouse's congressional pin, which allows the partners of lawmakers to access typically restricted parts of the Capitol complex. 'Mr. Roberts and the Congresswoman have been together since 2014, and have lived together since 2016,' the committee writes. 'Mr. Roberts has had a spouse pin since the Congresswoman entered Congress in 2019.' 'It is clear that the term 'spouse' – as utilized in this former rule and as seemingly accepted by the Committee by expanding 'spouse or dependent' to any guest – was intended to allow a Member of Congress to bring the individual that they've decided to share their lives with to a charity event, regardless of whether they had taken steps to bring the law or religion into their relationship.' AOC's shielding of her longtime partner from federal disclosures means its unclear if Roberts has any stock investments in companies from the Democrat's district, or if he has any investments at all. This comes as the 35-year-old Democrat has been pushing for a congressional stock trading ban that would also bar congressional spouses from trading. AOC is seen as a possible contender for both the New York Senate race in 2026 and the presidential race in 2028. Speculation over AOC's next move began percolating earlier this year when she began touring the country with Sen. Bernie Sanders for their 'Fighting Oligarchy' Tour which kicked off in February. Despite the rumor-mill turning, Ocasio-Cortez has not announced a run for higher office and has maintained she's focused on representing the Bronx. She's won her district handedly every year since taking office in 2019. Still, many believe AOC will run, even members in the GOP. Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett told Fox News over the weekend he believes AOC would trounce Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., should she run against him next year. 'Frankly, I'm looking forward to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez primarying him (Schumer) very soon, and seeing him ran out of town because even no one, no one believes what he says,' the Republican said.
