Kilmarnock boss wary of 'difficult' Kelty Hearts challenge ahead of Premier Sports Cup clash

Stuart Kettlewell heaped praise on the Fife club and boss Tam O'Ware as the Killie boss eyes up a third successive win
Kilmarnock boss Stuart Kettlewell insists tonight's visit to League One outfit Kelty Hearts will be a 'difficult' task and says he has plenty of praise for the Fife club and gaffer Tam O'Ware.

Killie will be looking to take a big step towards sealing their place in the knockout stages of the Premier Sports Cup by making it three wins from three when they travel to New Central Park as he continues towards preparing for the start of the Premiership campaign.

He said: 'They've obviously brought in quite a lot of fresh blood and some younger players with good energy to the team, so it'll be a difficult task for us on Tuesday.

'We just want that work ethic, that buy-in from players, that's the simple parts of it.
'Trying to keep as many players fit as you possibly can, try and get through all your markers, as many minutes into players as you possibly can, try and get them battle-hardened and get them ready for the rigours of a season.
'There's a lot of aspects that we look at behind the scene that you still try to chip away at to make sure that you get it to kind of the way you're working.

'You're always wanting to try and get to that best practise throughout the course of the week, not just on the pitch. I think we've been making small steps and making decent ground in that sense, but as always, everything's a work in progress.
'We're trying to strive for perfection, I think that's why we're all in it.'
Kettlewell will be lining up against one of the youngest managers in the SPFL in O'Ware - something the Killie boss can sympathise with from his earlier days in the hotseat at Ross County.

He said: 'I grew a beard, trying to make myself look a wee bit older but I've still got it to this day.
'Silly little things like that, but you always believe in what you do, you always believe in how you handle yourself.
'You need to not have this ego because I'm nowhere near the finished article with eight or so years of experience and a lot of games under my belt.

'We've all got ideas, we've all got a way that we think we want to go about the job, but you learn so much from different scenarios.
'I briefly spoke to Tam before the game and he'd said that there's not enough hours in the day in the part-time job.
'I think he's got a point, I really do. I've always said that being a manager in part-time football, the role's still the same, you've still got to get through the same markers, you've still got to prepare your team.

'I always tip my cap because I think it's a hard job at senior level and at full-time with the amount of hours that I and my staff put into it. But I think when you twist that into part-time football, you're looking for the same success, you're looking for the same achievements, but you're trying to do it with a lot less hours.
'That'll be a great experience for Tam, I've no doubt about it.'

Predicted Hibs XI vs Midtjylland as David Gray makes key calls in Europa League clash

Hibs are in Denmark for their Europa League second qualifying round first leg tie vs FC Midtjylland - with David Gray needing to make several key decisions. The club legend and current head coach guided Hibs to third last season in the Premiership, with a trip to Denmark their reward. A positive result here would be a major boost in a quest to reach the third qualifying round, with a return leg at Easter Road to come next week. There are several calls to consider, from who starts in goals between Jordan Smith or Raphael Sallinger, to how many new signings are thrown in. Then there's pondering on formations and who works best for the opposition ahead. Going with a 3-5-2 formation, here's who we think will start for Hibs against Midtjylland. 1 . But the third consecutive League Cup win was marred by shocking scenes after full-time. Both clubs have confirmed that Police Scotland are dealing with an incident which left the young supporter injured. It's being widely suggested online that young Queen of the South fans were targeted and had their drum nicked by Thistle supporters. It's claimed one of the Queen of the South fans sustained a head injury in the altercation. The individual was treated by Partick Thistle's medical team inside the stadium and the club have since admitted that players and staff were shocked by the incident. A statement read: "Players and officials of Partick Thistle were appalled at the incident that occurred after the final whistle in last night's game with Queen of the South at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill. "We thank the group of home and away fans that came to the assistance of the young visiting supporter in the aftermath and also thank our first team medical staff who applied treatment in the club's physio department. "Queen of the South have provided an update this morning and we are pleased to hear that the young person involved is doing well and echo their wishes for a speedy recovery. "The matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland." "We are delighted to hear that those involved are ok and wish them a speedy recovery. Dundee boss Steven Pressley trolled by Scots football club as they blast ‘the only thing getting rattled is your club'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) STEVEN PRESSLEY might have his first win as Dundee boss under his belt but the pressure hasn't gone away. Although this time around, it's another Scottish football CLUB who are attempting to pile it on. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Dundee appointed Steve Pressley as manager at the beginning of June Credit: Kenny Ramsay 3 Pressley's endured a difficult start as Dee boss Credit: Michael Schofield Former Scotland star Pressley, 51, was a shock appointment as Dundee manager last month. The ex-Celtic, Hearts and Rangers defender was confirmed as Tony Docherty's replacement after the latter's shock sacking after the end of last season. There's been a big turnaround in players at Dundee with key men Lyall Cameron and Josh Mulligan among those to have moved on. Pressley might've been hoping the Premier Sports Cup would've given him the chance to make a strong start to his time in charge. But a 1-0 home defeat to Championship side Airdrieonians in the opening group match instantly piled the pressure on. And that only intensified when Pressley's side were defeated 1-0 again in their second game, this time by third tier Alloa. The back-to-back defeats ended Dundee's hopes of progression and they are OUT of the competition at the first hurdle. Last night, Pressley and his side took on Bonnyrigg Rose in an away clash and for periods, it looked like another horror result could be on the cards. Clark Robertson had given Dee the lead before Cameron Ross levelled things up for the non-league outfit, who were relegated out of the SPFL last season. Emile Acquah and Billy Koumetio both struck inside the final five minutes of the game to spare their team's blushes and give Pressley a first win in charge. Scottish Premiership club enlist Hollywood superstar to sell their £95M new stadium and hotel plans With Bonnyrigg having just replaced their pitch, the game was held at Whitehill Welfare's Ferguson Park home. But Pressley wasn't happy with THEIR surface in the aftermath of the game. After the 3-1 win, he said: "It certainly wasn't vintage. The pitch made it a very difficult night's work. "Credit to our players, they showed a really good mentality. "We found ourselves 1-1 with the clock running down and we kept pushing and going at it and in the end got a very much deserved in. "But as I said, it was a difficult evening, a real leveller the pitch. "When you come here on the back of a couple of disappointing results and the pitch being how it is, it was a real banana skin for us so as I said, well done to the players." Those comments didn't go down well at all with Whitehill Welfare. The East of Scotland League club's official X account responded directly to Dundee's post containing Pressley's post match thoughts. The club blasted: "I think our pitch is the least of your worries Steven. "Good luck for the rest of your time in charge." A Dundee fan bit back, telling Whitehill Welfare they had been "rattled" by the manager's comments. The club weren't done there, and fired back at the support. They said: "The only thing getting rattled is your club on a weekly basis. Airdrie, Alloa etc etc." Dundee close out their Premier Sports Cup group stage campaign - and indeed campaign as a whole - with a home clash with Montrose on Saturday afternoon. They then begin the Premiership season by taking on Hibs at Dens Park before a trip to face Rangers at Ibrox. 3 Whitehill Welfare weren't happy with Steven Pressley's comments Credit: X/@WHITEHILWELFARE Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
