Yahoo02-05-2025

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Travelers flying through Charleston International Airport will soon have more options to get to New York City.
American Airlines will begin operating twice-daily service to New York's LaGuardia Airport on September 3, with plans to expand its service to three daily flights starting November 3.
The route will use a combination of Embraer E170 and E175 aircraft, regional jets that can seat between 76 and 88 passengers, depending on the configuration.
Charleston International Airport CEO Elliot Summey called the announcement a 'major win' for the city and the region as a whole.
'More flights to New York mean more options for our business and leisure travelers, and more connections for our local economy,' he said. 'We're thrilled to see American Airlines grow their commitment to Charleston and further solidify our airport's role as a vital transportation hub in the Southeast.'
American Airlines is Charleston's largest carrier, operating 25 departures daily to seven destinations.
'Whether traveling to New York City for a trip or through one of our other gateways to more than 350 destinations around the world, we look forward to welcoming travelers on board our aircraft,' said Jordan Pack, the airline's director of domestic network planning.
Tickets for the future service will be available starting May 5.

3 ways to conduct your mid-year credit check-in

Americans sat on over $1.2 trillion in credit card balances in the first quarter of 2025, according to the New York Federal Reserve. Clint Henderson, The Points Guy managing editor, breaks down how to maximize credit card rewards and avoid costly fees in the second half of the year. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Wealth here. According to the New York Fed, Americans credit balances totaled 1.2 trillion dollars in the first quarter. And as part of our mid-year financial checkup, I want to bring in Clint Henderson, who's the points guy managing editor. Clint, good to see you once again. What should consumers be checking in on at this halfway point of the year? So you want to make sure that you're squeezing every last drop of your statement credits that you get for some of the premium credit cards. Uh you want to check to see if you're in the market for a credit card. So, know your credit score, you know, maybe shop around. We've seen some insanely good uh offers right now in the in the past couple of months. I know several off the top of my head where you can get 100,000 points or miles for signing up for a credit card. Um, but right now you want to be checking that you're getting the maximum value from all your cards. Make sure you set up some uh automatic payment schedules so you're not missing any payments because that really dings your credit score. Uh, you want to make sure you're paying off the balances every month and then like I said, squeeze every, you know, a lot of cards now have, we call it couponning. So, you have to make sure that you're getting all the statement credits that you're eligible for. You can see some of the rules on your screen. Um, you want to not carry balances, avoid foreign transaction fees, a lot of cards have no foreign transaction fees. Um, you want to check to see if you're paying fees for making payments. So, increasingly we're seeing like a 2% or 3% charge to use a credit card. Uh, that's exorbitant and you shouldn't be paying that cuz then you you're erasing any of the benefits you get from having a rewards credit card. Uh, but there are cards out there like the Wells Fargo built card that actually comes, uh, you can pay your rent with that with no transaction fees, uh, some some billing will let you pay without a transaction fee. So make sure you're not getting hit with a transaction fee when you're using your credit cards. If you're in a good position to sign up for a new card, what should you be looking for? Look for a giant sign-up bonus. You know, we just saw a huge sign-up bonus from Chase. I have a feeling more coming down the pike. You know, 100,000 points or miles for for a low annual fee card is a no-brainer in my mind. I think the American Airlines executive card right now has 100,000 American Airlines miles. Uh, you know, some of these cards have really valuable sign-up bonuses and you know, I'm kind of the outlier because I have 27 credit cards. Uh, but you know, that's how I'm able to travel the world in business class because I'm signing up for a lot of credit cards, earning those sign up bonuses, and then downgrading the card after a year if I don't want to pay the annual fee, but you can bet I have a spreadsheet where I track every single card and its benefits and make sure I'm getting all those benefits. Dozens of cards you've told me you had before here. So once you do get a new card, how do you accumulate those points by the end of the year? So, the main thing is you want to meet the terms of the signup bonus. So a lot of the cards, you have to spend a certain amount of money in the first three months of card opening. So make sure you're tracking that. I have made that mistake myself where I signed up for a business credit card, and then I spent $998 instead of a thousand and I did not get the sign-up bonus. So make sure you're getting those sign-up bonuses. And then use the cards that come with bonuses on on certain categories of spending. So the Chase Sapphire preferred card for example, gives you extra points on travel, uh, on things like ride shares and taxis. So you want to make sure that you're using the right card. You know, some people in this hobby go to the length of putting little stickers on their partners cards to make sure they know what to use which card for which store because of the bonus categories. So there's lots of ins and outs. You don't have to get quite that deep into the hobby, but, uh, make sure at least for the main card that you're using that you know what category bonuses it might have. United Airlines is projecting a record-breaking summer with about 50 million passengers from June to August -- about 3 million more than last year. Hopper recommends flying midweek, like Tuesday or Wednesday, to save up to 20% on airfare. Internationally, Expedia said popular destinations include Cancun, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Paris; London; Tokyo; Rome; the Bahamas; and Barcelona, Spain. Road travel Good news for those taking road trips: Hopper said car rental prices are remaining steady from last year, averaging $47 per day. American Airlines Debuts New Amenity Kits With an Iconic Hollywood Designer

American Airlines' amenity kits are getting a Hollywood makeover. In a limited-edition release, the airline will debut three new styles by celebrity designer Brandon Blackwood, whose styles have been worn by stars like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Lucy Liu, Megan Thee Stallion, and Heidi Klum. 'I remember how excited I would get as a child, racing to find my seat and eagerly searching for the amenity kits,' the 33-year-old trending fashion designer told Travel + Leisure, noting that he often traveled and moved around the world since his stepdad was in banking. 'Each kit felt like a little treasure trove, filled with varied, thoughtfully designed items that brought me so much joy and curiosity.' His goal while taking on this collaboration was to 'recreate that same feeling of excitement and wonder,' aiming for styles that meld functionality with whimsy. 'I wanted every kit to spark that sense of curiosity I once had as a child, bringing a smile to travelers,' he added. The complimentary kits will be available on select summer flights starting in mid-June and running through September for passengers in premium classes flying between the U.S. and Asia, Australia, Europe, South America, and the Middle East, as well as on domestic cross-country and Hawaii flights. Premium economy travelers will receive a blue-and-white pouch in Blackwood's trademark checkered pattern, while those in Flagship business will be treated to a black pouch with red accents including the checkered design on the inside. The most coveted kit will be reserved for Flagship first class passengers, who will receive a mini version of Blackwood's viral Portmore bag, made of denim with a wrap-around zipper. 'The Portmore backpack holds a special place in my heart as one of the very first styles I created and the bag that truly put us on the map,' Blackwood said. He scaled down the design for the airline as an ode to his brand's 10th anniversary. 'It was a journey to take such an iconic bag and reimagine it for this significant moment in our history—this feels like a rebirth of a classic.' Brandon Blackwood with the his full American Airlines amenity kits. Lexi Lambro/American Airlines Inside each kit will be a curated selection of skincare products, including Buttah lip balm and towelette and Pholk lotion. The collaboration is the second of the Texas-based carrier's limited-edition kits, which started in 2024 with women-owned B Corp company Raven & Lily in partnership with Stand Up to Cancer and helped raise $4.3 million for the nonprofit. The opportunity marks a profound moment for Blackwood, who was on the 2024 Time 100 list for revolutionizing the fashion industry with the End Systemic Racism tote. 'Being a first to do something is always such a milestone, especially at this scale,' Blackwood told T+L of the opportunity as a Black designer to work with a brand like American Airlines, which he's long adored. 'Every first my brand has done has helped spotlight other brands of those that look like myself. It gives hope, spreads awareness, and shows that there is so much overlooked talent that's waiting to show up and show out.' For those who have long supported his brand, he hopes they'll 'feel a sense of pride and see a reflection of both themselves and our brand in the kits,' while he hopes those happening upon his designs for the first time will see the kits as a 'warm welcome…inviting everyone to share this beautiful experience together.' The partnership is a choice that the airline is excited to bring to their passengers for the summer travel season. 'Brandon's bold, fashion-forward designs are the perfect addition to our amenity kit collection, especially as we see our premium customers skewing younger, which is in line with Gen Z investing in luxury items and experiences,' the airline's chief customer officer Heather Garboden said in a statement obtained by T+L.
