Pakistan to Officially Celebrate Eid Al Fitr 2025 on March 31

Morocco World29-03-2025

Rabat– Pakistan will officially celebrate Eid Al Fitr on March 31, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan 1446.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the country's official moon sighting body, confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on Saturday evening.
'Pakistan will celebrate Eid Al-Fitr on March 31, as the crescent moon is expected to be visible to the naked eye tomorrow, Sunday,' confirmed the state media.
Fasting in Pakistan began on March 2, and today marks the 28th day of Ramadan in the South Asian country.
The federal government has declared Eid holidays from March 31 (Monday) to April 2 (Wednesday), according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division. Public and private sector employees across the country will observe these holidays to mark the joyous occasion.
Eid A Fitr , meaning the 'Festival of Breaking the Fast,' is one of the most significant Islamic celebrations. In Pakistan, it begins with special Eid prayers held at mosques and open grounds across Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and other cities.
Worshippers gather in large numbers, dressed in 'shalwar kameez', traditional clothing often embroidered with intricate patterns, to perform the Salat al-Eid prayer.
Before the prayer, Muslims in Pakistan fulfill their obligation of Zakat Al Fitr, or locally known as 'Eid Fitrana'— a charitable donation meant to assist the less fortunate in celebrating Eid. This act of giving elevates the values of compassion and generosity, which are central to the festival.
Following the prayer, families and friends come together for elaborate Eid feasts, featuring popular dishes such as 'sheer Khurma' (sweet vermicelli pudding), biryani, kebabs, and 'nihari'. Homes are decorated, and guests are welcomed with traditional sweets.
One of the most anticipated customs of Eid Al Fitr is the exchange of Eidi — cash gifts given by elders to children as a token of love and blessings. Young ones eagerly collect their Eidi from parents, uncles, aunts, and grandparents, excitedly planning how to spend it.
As Pakistanis and Muslims across the world prepare to celebrate Eid, the festival serves as a moment of gratitude, unity, and joy, strengthening family bonds and fostering a sense of community spirit.

France Opens Investigation After Suspect Steals, Burns Quran

Rabat – French police have opened an investigation after receiving a complaint condemning the Islamophobic act of an individual reported to have targeted a new mosque in the Villeurbanne district in Lyon. AFP quoted a police source as confirming that French security services received a complaint against a man who entered a mosque to steal a copy of the Quran and set it on fire over the past weekend. Mayor of Villeurbanne Cedric Van Styvendael condemned the act, describing it as another reprehensible Islamophobic attack in his city he described as peace-loving and tolerant. He also expressed his support for the city's Muslims, especially the community of faithful at the targeted mosque. The online collective 'Musulmans de France' also expressed full solidarity with the Conseil des Mosquées du Rhone and the Errahma mosque in Villeurbanne, which was targeted in the new Islamophobic act. 'The burning of a copy of the Quran, just minutes before the dawn prayer, is part of a troubling wave of attacks against Muslims in France,' the group said, noting a remarkable increase in Islamophobic acts in France over the past few years. 'This is not a random incident — it is a direct attack on freedom of worship and the dignity of millions of citizens. We call for firm measures and exemplary prosecution. It is time to act with responsibility,' Musulmans de France said . In recent months, France has been the theater of national marches against racism and Islamophobia. The marches and rallies came after the heinous Islamophobic attack that Olivier A. carried out against a Muslim man inside a mosque in France. The defendant stabbed Aboubakar Cisse, a Muslim living in France, around 40 to 50 times while he was praying. He also insulted God, Islam, and Muslims as he filmed his horrific murder. Following the Islamophobic attack, many other mosques and Muslims have faced similar attacks over the past months. In May, French police opened an investigation after a man left a voicemail in which he threatened to slit the throats of Muslim targets. 'You are filthy Muslim sh****(…). You want to play the victims, filthy pigs… We're going to slit your throats,' the caller said on the phone's voicemachine, according to Le Parisian. Tags: France islamophobiaIslamophobia in Europe

French Mosques Call for Boycott of Sheep Sacrifice Ahead of Eid Al-Adha

Doha – Facing limited abattoir access and rising prices, Muslim leaders in southern France urge alternatives for the upcoming festival, as similar measures take root in Morocco and Spanish enclaves. Several mosques in France's Gard department have called on Muslims to abstain from purchasing sheep for traditional sacrifice during the upcoming Eid Al-Adha celebration, expected next week. In a statement issued on May 15, leaders of the Lumière et Piété Mosque in Nîmes cited three main concerns: 'the lack of official facilities for ritual slaughter in compliant conditions,' 'excessive price increases for sheep,' and 'targeted administrative pressures and systematic obstacles hindering freedom of worship.' The prefecture has authorized only one temporary abattoir for the entire Muslim community in the department this year. This facility, located at Ferme de Vestric in Vestric-et-Candiac, will operate under the supervision of the Departmental Directorate for Population Protection (DDPP), whose agents will inspect each animal. 'In February, an animal costs €90, but during Eid, strangely, it exceeds €300? It's nonsense. I prefer to buy my meat from the butcher. It will be better that way,' one worshipper told a local radio station. The mosque leaders reminded the faithful that slaughtering animals outside approved facilities constitutes a criminal offense punishable by six months imprisonment and a €15,000 fine. The same penalties apply for complicity. Instead, the religious leaders recommend 'legally and religiously valid alternatives, such as sending donations for sacrifice in countries where the needy truly need it,' according to France 3 Occitanie and Gard Lozère. Read also: Thursday is 1st Day of Dhu Al Hijjah, Morocco to Celebrate Eid Al Adha on June The French Council of Muslim Faith (CFCM) has announced that Eid Al-Adha 1446H will be celebrated in France on Friday, June 6. This decision by French Muslim leaders follows a similar pattern seen in 2014, when the community also called for abstention from the traditional sacrifice due to inadequate facilities and regulatory challenges. Meanwhile, Morocco faces a similar situation but for different reasons. In February, King Mohammed VI called for citizens to abstain from sacrifice this year due to the country's alarming decline in national livestock, particularly sheep, which has fallen by 38% since 2016. The crisis began with the COVID-19 pandemic and was worsened by several years of drought. The number of female breeding sheep has dropped to 8.7 million in 2024, compared to 11 million in 2016, threatening the renewal of livestock populations. The royal decision has also found support in the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. According to El Confidencial's report published in early April, the Association of Halal Consumers in Ceuta, led by Abdelmalik Mohamed Amar, has backed the King's decision. They argued that 'it doesn't make much sense to follow guidelines from a country 6,000 kilometers away when we have another just around the corner.' Similarly, the Muslim Community of Melilla issued a statement asserting that 'the majority of Melilla's Muslims share the vision of the Commander of the Faithful and consider the measure sensible.' Dhu Al Hijjah Starts on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia, Eid Al Adha 2025 Falls on June 6

Rabat – Saudi Arabia announced today the sighting of the Dhu Al-Hijjah crescent, marking the start of Dhu Al Hijjah, which marks two major Islamic events: Eid Al Adha and Hajj to Mecca. Muslims in Saudi Arabia will observe Eid Al-Adha on June 6, as announced by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia. Oman and several other GCC countries also announced June 6 as Eid Al Adha. With this announcement, Arafat Day, a significant day for Muslims, is scheduled for June 5. It corresponds to the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijjah, while Eid Al Adha falls on the tenth day of the twelfth and final month in the Islamic calendar. Hajj is one of Islam's five essential pillars, convening millions of Muslims annually. Internationally, Eid Al-Adha is known as the 'Feast of Sacrifice,' commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Every year, Muslims sacrifice sheep, lambs, goats, or cows in remembrance of this act of pure and selfless devotion to the divine command. Special prayers are held at major mosques and Islamic centers to mark this important occasion in the morning. In Morocco, the festivities begin with morning prayers, followed by a communal breakfast. Soon after, the celebration continues with the sacrificial slaughter of livestock dedicated to the feast. However, Morocco canceled the Eid Al Adha sacrifice ritual this year due to drought and a notable decrease in herd population. Tags: Eid Al Adhaeid al adha 2025
