Maha: Mumbai police receive hoax threat email to blow up Mumbai Airport, Taj Mahal hotel
Mumbai, May 17 (UNI) The Mumbai police have received an alleged threat email warning of bomb blasts at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel but after thorough examination of two vital establishments, nothing suspicious was found and it was declared as 'hoax' threat email, police said on Saturday.
The email was received at the Airport Police station of Mumbai on their official email ID on Thursday morning from an ID viduthalai_puli_vellum@outlook.com.stating that blast will be carried out as the death sentence for the Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru was unjust.
Following this, security was beefed up and heavy police bandobast were deployed within the area of airport as well as outside and inside Taj Mahal hotel, which was earlier targeted by the Pakistan-born Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists on November 26, 2008, in which 167 people were killed and more than 250 were injured.
The hotel is one of the most iconic hotels in the country and has been on the terrorists' top target list.

Punjab Police arrests two for cross-border arms smuggling; eight weapons seized
In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence of Amritsar apprehended two people, Sukhchain Singh and Jugraj Singh, who were actively involved in cross-border arms smuggling and recovered eight weapons, police said on Friday. Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, said that acting on specific Intelligence, these operatives were intercepted while transporting a consignment of illegal arms from Pakistan-based smuggler Noor. The DGP wrote on social media handle X that three Glock 9mm pistols, four Px5 pistols and one .30 bore pistol were seized. "A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to identify additional handlers and unearth the full extent of this smuggling network," the DGP added. In another crackdown a day earlier on cross-border drug smuggling networks, Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted two international narco-trafficking cartels with the arrest of its six drug smugglers, including a woman, and recovered four kg heroin. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that one module is operated by arrested accused Sevenbir, who is in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers. The latter received heroin consignments and operated under the guise of livestock trade, he said. The DGP added that one of the arrested accused, Jasbir Kaur, is linked to the cartel of the infamous smuggler Ranjeet, alias Cheeta, and maintained contact with smugglers in India and across the border. In one more major breakthrough on Thursday, the police dismantled a cross-border weapon smuggling module with links to Pakistan and arrested two of its operatives after recovering six highly sophisticated pistols. The accused have been identified as Surajpal Singh and Arshdeep Singh. DGP Yadav said that accused Surajpal Singh was in direct contact with Pakistan-based handlers identified as Rana and Sikander, who were using drones to drop consignments of arms and ammunition.

Saudi Arabia deploys Patriot missile system around Mecca
Mecca, June 6 (UNI) Saudi Arabia has implemented strict security measures for Hajj, including deploying the US-made Patriot missile defence system around Mecca. The Saudi Ministry of Defence has released images of the special security arrangements on X, showing the Patriot missile system deployed in the vicinity of Mecca, to ensure the safety of pilgrims. Another post shows a military helicopter conducting aerial surveillance over the area. The Saudi authorities said these measures aim to guarantee the protection of pilgrims, especially this year when millions of Muslims are to visit Saudi Arabia for their spiritual journey during Hajj. The Patriot missile system is based on the latest technology and is designed to counter ballistic missiles, drones, and other aerial threats. Saudi officials have emphasised that the safety of pilgrims is their top priority, and have taken all possible measures to provide a secure environment for pilgrims to perform their spiritual duties. Saudi Arabia has also intensified the enforcement of Hajj permit regulations this year, barring individuals without official permits from entering Mecca. The Ministry of Interior confirmed that security forces had been deployed across all key access points to Mecca to prevent unauthorised individuals from entering the city in the days leading up to Hajj. The intensified measures come in response to longstanding concerns over the strain placed on infrastructure and essential services by unauthorised pilgrims, Arab News said. The Ministry of Interior has repeatedly said that individuals caught attempting to perform Hajj with no valid Hajj permit will face a fine of SR20,000 with enforcement in effect from April 29 to June 10. Authorities reported the dismantling of 252 fake Hajj campaigns, the arrest of 1,239 illegal transporters, and the return of 269,678 non-residents of Makkah, 75,943 unauthorised pilgrims and 109,632 vehicles. Honeytrapped By Agent, Received Money From Abroad: How Thane Engineer Spied For Pakistan
Last Updated: Ravindra Verma, engineer arrested from Thane, spied by knowingly sharing classified information—including sketches, diagrams, and audio notes, investigations have revealed. Thane engineer, who was arrested for allegedly spying and sharing sensitive information about warships and submarines to Pakistan, was lured into passing classified information after being honey-trapped by a Pakistani agent posing as a woman on Facebook. As the investigations into the case progressed, it was known that 27-year-old Ravindra Verma shared sensitive information knowingly and intentionally multiple times. In exchange for the information, he received money from various bank accounts from India and abroad, according to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The ATS also said Verma shared sensitive information about warships and submarines to the Pakistani intelligence operative through sketches, diagrams and audio notes. As Verma worked with a defence technology firm, he had access to the Naval Dockyard in south Mumbai. He would also go on board naval ships and submarines. The ATS suspects that he also shared the names of submarines and warships to the Pakistani agent. On June 5, a court in Thane remanded Verma to 14-day judicial custody. Verma's arrest comes in line with the arrest of several others, including popular YouTubers, who have been accused of spying for Pakistan. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7. Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side strongly responded to the Pakistani attempts by inflicting heavy damage to a number of key Pakistani military installations, including air bases, air defence systems, command and control centres and radar sites. On May 10, the militaries of the two countries agreed on an understanding to end the hostilities.
