GMDA must meet at least once a month, not once or twice a year, says Rao Inderjit Singh

"Despite the intention of creating a one-window powerhouse, the existence of both the municipal corporation and GMDA, according to Singh, resulted in a lack of clarity regarding their respective areas of influence and administration.
Conceived as a Noida Authority-like body, GMDA doesn't function as one. Formed in 2018, the development authority is now seven years old, so there's been enough time to steer it in the direction of its purpose.
But the state govt has not quite been able to take it there. One of the main criticisms of GMDA is that its execution is slow and its contributions to the city's infrastructure improvements not very apparent.

Singh said when GMDA was formed, its CEO was allowed to sanction only projects up to Rs 50 lakh. Only recently, it was enhanced to Rs 2.5 crore. "The power of the MCG house (to sanction projects) was earlier Rs 2 crore only and now it has become Rs 10 crore.
If you have a project which is over Rs 10 crore, it has to go to the minister, and if it is over Rs 25 crore, to the high-powered purchase committee sitting in Chandigarh. Now, this is a remote-controlled administrative setup with which I am not really very happy," said Singh, referring to the slowness of project execution in Gurgaon.
In Noida, he added, Noida Authority operates through a single-window system. But Gurgaon is hobbled by multiple agencies, creating a complex administrative structure.
Noida manages licences for residential colonies and plotted areas, while in Gurgaon, developers independently acquire land from farmers, aggregate it and then seek licences from the town and country planning department, said the minister, pointing out structural flaws in Gurgaon's governance.
"Persistent flooding in Gurgaon stems from developers incorporating perennial waterways into their projects and constructing buildings upon them.
With these natural water channels obstructed, water seeks alternative paths, resulting in widespread flooding throughout the city," he said.
"Steps are being taken to establish a unified authority for issuing licences. There are concerns that the next developing city might face similar challenges as Gurgaon. It is crucial to avoid replicating the mistakes made in Gurgaon's development process in future urban expansion projects," he added.
Singh also pointed out that GMDA has a meeting once a year or perhaps twice a year, which is not enough. "I mean, Gurgaon is generating so many problems every day. This is something that I'm trying to ask the chief minister to do. The GMDA meeting should not be held six-monthly. It should at least be held once a month. Even if the chief minister, who is the head of GMDA, cannot come, at least the officers should all convene once a month here in Gurgaon," said Singh.

Referring specifically to criticism of 'discrimination against those joining the party fold' (new members), Rao firmly stated that the BJP treated all members—new or old—with equal respect. 'Some Congress and BRS leaders are trying to mislead the public by spreading rumours of bias. This is leading to the media speculations. That's not how we function,' he said, while urging the media to avoid sensationalism and instead understand the party's inclusive ethos. Answering queries on perceived ideological divisions within the party—with some claiming that their allegiance to the 'Hindutva' doctrine should outweigh other aspects and others citing the move to bring on board youth, with PM Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah as well as other national leaders believing it to be essential for ushering in transformative leadership to meet the 21st-century realities, Rao remarked, 'While Hindutva remains a core value, the BJP is also looking at bringing aspirational youth into politics to create and give next-generation political leaders to the country." Rao said that the party leadership had taken cognizance of the reported differences between the two top leaders from the state, commenting: "both are leaders at the national level and mass leaders. The party doesn't want it to further escalate. It will be resolved soon," he added. Stressing the need for unity, discipline, and ideological clarity in the party unit, he remarked: 'Whether new or experienced, every party worker should understand and uphold our core principles. Our priority remains organizational harmony and preparing for electoral success.' The BJP State unit chief clarified that there would be no alliance or understanding with the BRS. 'It is a propaganda being spread by both the Congress and the BRS to prevent the BJP from gaining momentum, as it is increasingly gaining traction from the people in their political bastions.'

ED slaps case against Myntra over Rs 1,654-cr FDI 'violation'

CCTV cameras, drones for all police stations
Eluru: Minister for Home and Disaster Management Vangalapudi Anitha announced an initiative to equip all police stations with CCTV cameras and drones. She participated in the inauguration of a newly constructed Polavaram Police Station building, spanning 10,123 square feet with 16 rooms—seven rooms on the first floor and four rooms on the second floor— on Wednesday. Stressing that public cooperation is essential for effective policing, she reiterated the government's commitment to building a drug-free state. Citing the establishment of the Eagle Team, which has successfully eradicated ganja plantations across Andhra Pradesh, she noted that some external elements are still attempting to transport ganja illegally and affirmed that strict action is being taken against such activities. The police station was constructed at a cost of RS 2.5 crore to provide modern infrastructure for better policing, according to a press release. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Polavaram MLA Balaraju, APTRI Chairman Borugadda Srinivas, Eluru Range IG GVG Ashok Kumar, and Eluru District SP Pratap Shiva Kishore among others.
