Tampa Bay leaders discussed their safety plans ahead of the Women's Final Four events this weekend.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said there will be an elevated presence of law enforcement throughout Tampa, but especially in places with large crowds.
With the influx of people coming to the area, Bercaw emphasized that the roads will be backed up, so people should plan accordingly.
TAMPA - Tampa Bay leaders shared their plans on Wednesday afternoon to keep everybody safe during all the Women's Final Four events this weekend.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said there will be an elevated presence of law enforcement throughout Tampa, but especially in places with large crowds.
With the influx of people coming to the area, Bercaw emphasized that the roads will be backed up, so people should plan accordingly.
What they're saying
"As with any major event, we anticipate increased traffic," Bercaw said. "There will be more vehicles and pedestrians downtown, and we encourage everyone to allow extra time for planning and for traveling and coming up with alternate routes."
Law enforcement will be out in full force on foot, boat, bike, horseback and in the air.

As we move towards the summer and with high temperatures expected this weekend, Tampa Fire Chief Barbara Tripp said that people need to think about hydration when outside for long periods of time.
"We want everyone to make sure they stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids while you're here," Tripp said.

ComEd Restores Power to 80 Percent of Customers Impacted by Pair of Weekend Storms
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug 17, 2025-- Following two rounds of storms that both included high winds of up to 70 mph across all of northern Illinois Saturday and Sunday, ComEd crews have restored power to more than 80 percent of impacted customers. Some of the hardest hit areas from this afternoon's storms included Crystal Lake, DeKalb, Joliet, Mount Prospect, Rockford, and Skokie. Approximately 40,000 customers remain without power as of 10 a.m. Sunday. Over 500 ComEd crews are deployed throughout the region and will soon be joined by 33 additional crews Sunday afternoon. All crews will continue to work around the clock to restore service to all remaining customers as quickly and safely as possible. Based on storms of similar magnitude, ComEd expects power to be restored to nearly all of these customers by 2 p.m. Monday. When responding to power outages caused by storms, ComEd's priority is to restore critical facilities such as police and fire stations, nursing homes and hospitals first, followed by repairs that will restore power to the greatest number of customers. 'Safely restoring power to all our customers impacted by this weekend's storms remains our number one priority, and our dedicated crews are working around the clock to bring all affected customers back,' said David Perez, executive vice president and COO of ComEd. 'We recognize that losing power at any time can be frustrating, and we appreciate our customers' patience as we continue to assess damage throughout the region and restore power.' Apple Wants To Expand Live Sports Offering With MLB Playoffs
As Apple continues to bolster its Apple TV+ offerings, the company has shown a steadily increasing interest in broadcasting live sporting events. The company's latest move might see it expand its Major League Baseball coverage to include Wild Card games during the MLB postseason. According to a report from The Athletic, Apple is making a push that would see it secure the rights to Sunday Night Baseball along with some MLB playoff games. Should Apple and MLB ultimately strike a deal, it would be a nice complement to the company's Friday Night Baseball programming. As with all streaming negotiations with major sports leagues, there is no shortage of competition. The report notes that MLB is also conducting negotiations with companies like ESPN, NBC, and Netflix. Of course, the scope of programming rights each company is aiming to secure varies wildly. Apple's specific approach, as one would expect, appears to be quite measured. All in all, it seems content to slowly but surely expand its live sports offerings without spending vast amounts of cash to secure more expansive streaming deals with the likes of the NFL or NBA. According to reports, Netflix's foray into NFL streaming attracted 65 million US viewers. Amazon has also gotten involved with the NFL. Football and falls as first humanoid robot games launch in China
The first World Humanoid Robot Games began on Friday in Beijing with over 500 androids alternating between jerky tumbles and glimpses of real power as they compete in events from the 100-metre hurdles to kung fu. Hundreds of robotics teams from 16 countries are going for gold at the Chinese capital's National Speed Skating Oval, built for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Events include traditional sports like athletics and basketball, as well as practical tasks such as medicine categorisation and cleaning. "I believe in the next 10 years or so robots will be basically at the same level as humans," enthusiastic 18-year-old spectator Chen Ruiyuan told AFP. Human athletes might not be quaking in their boots just yet. At one of the first events on Friday, five-a-side football, 10 robots the size of seven-year-olds shuffled around the pitch, often getting stuck in a scrum or falling over en masse. However, in a 1500m race, domestic champion Unitree's humanoid stomped along the track at an impressive clip, easily outpacing rivals. The fastest robot AFP witnessed finished in 6min 29.37sec, a far cry from the human men's world record of 3:26.00. One mechanical racer barrelled straight into a human operator. The robot remained standing while the human was knocked flat, though did not appear to be injured. - 'National strategy' - Robot competitions have been held for decades, but the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games is the first to focus specifically on robots that resemble human bodies, organisers said. The Chinese government has poured support into robotics hoping to lead the industry. Beijing has put humanoids in the "centre of their national strategy", the International Federation of Robotics wrote in a paper on Thursday. "The government wants to showcase its competence and global competitiveness in this field of technology," it added. Joost Weerheim, an operator with a Dutch five-a-side robot football team, told AFP he was impressed. "I think right now if they are not already the world leader, they are very, very quickly becoming it," he said. Domestically, authorities are working to raise awareness of the sector across society. Cui Han, accompanying her 10-year-old, told AFP that her son's school had organised and paid for the trip to the Games. "I hope it will encourage him to learn more about these new technologies," she said. In March, China announced plans for a one-trillion-yuan fund ($139 billion) to support technology startups, including those in robotics and AI. The country is already the world's largest market for industrial robots, official statistics show, and in April Beijing held what organisers dubbed the world's first humanoid robot half-marathon. Chen, the 18-year-old, told AFP he was about to begin studying automation at university. "Coming here can cultivate my passion for this field," he said. "My favourite is the boxing because... it requires a lot of agility and I can really see how the robots have improved from before."
