Vadodara corporator lodges complaint against Common Service Centre for ‘using her fake stamps, signatures'

Indian Express6 days ago

In wake of the recent crackdown against alleged illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Gujarat, Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) corporator from Ward 12, Twinkle Trivedi, on Saturday lodged a complaint with the Vadodara Taluka police station after learning that a private Common Service Centre (CSC) had allegedly been using her fake stamps and signatures to process government services for citizens.
The issue came to light on Saturday when the BJP leader's husband allegedly randomly visited a private CSC Centre to check the work and discovered unauthorised forms on the work table of the CSC operator along with a rubber stamp of the corporator.
Trivedi told The Indian Express, 'My husband had stepped out in the Bhayli area on Saturday and when he saw work in progress at a private CSC Centre in the area, he just decided to check… To his surprise, he came across forms bearing my rubber stamp as well as a forged signature that does not even match mine, perhaps being used for Aadhaar address updation… He called me from the spot and shared the photos of the form, which is when I confirmed that it was a fake form. We decided to approach the police.'
Immediately, Trivedi arrived at the Vadodara Taluka police station on Saturday evening to lodge a complaint. She said, 'This is a serious issue, in wake of the crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state. It is also an eye-opener as most of us, corporators, will remain unaware if private centres like these are forging stamps and signatures… I will take up the issue with the authorities seeking that the stamp and signature of the corporators be allowed only in person… I have also urged the 75 other corporators of the VMC to come forward and check the dealings of private CSC centres in their own areas.'
Trivedi added that the CSC centre in question had been running for over six months and offered services for various government schemes, including Aadhaar card update.
Vadodara Superintendent of Police Rohan Anand confirmed to this newspaper that an FIR has been lodged under Sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for forgery. Anand said, 'Based on the complaint of the Corporator, an FIR has been lodged at the Vadodara Taluka police station for forgery of documents related to an elected representative. One person from the CSC centre has been taken into custody for questioning.'

ED probe finds illegal from Bangladesh is from Pakistan

One of the reasons behind the Centre's renewed push to send illegal Bangladeshi immigrants back to their country is the growing suspicion, triggered by an ongoing probe of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), that some of them may actually be Pakistani nationals who crossed over illegally through Bangladesh, The Indian Express has learnt. Sources said the ED probe is linked to an arrest made by the agency in Kolkata on April 15 of a man identified as Ajad Mallik alias Ahammed Hossain Azad in connection with a money laundering case. At the time, sources said, Mallik was under probe for being an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh who was allegedly running a passport and visa racket. But when the agency conducted searches at premises associated with him, it found ID papers linking him to Pakistan, including a driving license from Karachi, sources said. Speaking to The Indian Express, a senior ED official described Mallik as 'a deep asset' of the Pakistani establishment. 'He was planted rather meticulously. A scan of his phone shows he has made close to 300 calls to Pakistan in the past few years. He is part of multiple Pakistani WhatsApp groups. We are probing these for suspected espionage activities. He was also getting fake passports and visas made. It is being probed if he has helped Pakistani citizens illegally enter India,' the official said. Late last month, in a submission related to the case before a PMLA court in Kolkata, the ED said the 'evidence on record suggests that he (Mallik) is undertaking activities on the instructions received from persons based out of Pakistan'. The agency is now verifying all of Mallik's contacts in India, including those who obtained ID papers from him. Officials said the agency has also frozen `2.62 crore in bank accounts linked to him and alleged that the funds were being siphoned to Bangladesh. 'Investigation has revealed that Ajad Mallik, initially suspected to be Bangladesh National by the name Ahammed Hossain Azad, was actually Azad Hussain, a Pakistan National… living in India under the assumed identity of Ajad Mallik in Bankara, Birati, PS Airport, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Azad Hussain was found involved in fraudulently obtaining Indian Identity documents for illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in lieu of money,' the ED told the special court. Sources said Mallik is suspected to have entered Bangladesh in the early 2000s and acquired citizenship after marrying a local resident. Investigators believe Mallik illegally entered India around ten years ago, sources said, although his family continues to live in Bangladesh. The ED has claimed in court that Mallik fraudulently obtained Indian documents, such as voter ID, driving license, passport and an Aadhaar card — and even voted in a Parliamentary election and an Assembly poll in West Bengal. He has also been running a 'flourishing business' of procuring Indian ID papers for illegal immigrants, the agency has claimed. According to the ED submission, Mallik was allegedly in touch with a number of agents or touts for making fake Indian ID cards, including passports for Bangladeshi nationals for money. 'Azad Hussain alias Ajad Mallik is also found to be in regular touch with various agents all over India and involved in creating fake visa for people seeking jobs abroad. The incriminating conversations reveal that Azad Hussain is instructing agents to forge/ edit passport/ visa of individuals. Suspected persons are found to be using multiple mobile numbers and changing them frequently. Further investigation is underway in this regard,' the ED told court. The Centre has increased its surveillance of illegal immigrants in the country over the past couple of months, particularly after the Pahalgam terror attack.

Madhya Pradesh orders crackdown on duplicate PM Kisan beneficiaries

The Madhya Pradesh government has directed district officials to identify and disqualify beneficiaries in cases where both the husband and wife from the same family are availing benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, The Indian Express has learnt. This comes after several such cases were reported from across the state. On May 21, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare issued an SOP to be followed for necessary action in such cases. On May 19, the state's Commissioner, Land Records, wrote a letter to all district collectors to crack down on cases of multiple beneficiaries from the same family. The letter was written following video conferences on May 9 and May 16 by the Centre regarding the PM-KISAN scheme. Under the scheme, eligible families are provided `6,000 per year in three equal instalments. As per clause 3 of the PM-KISAN scheme guidelines, 'A landholding farmer family is defined as a family consisting of husband, wife, and minor children who own cultivable land as per the land records of the concerned State/UT.' The Commissioner's letter said, 'During the aforementioned video conferences, it was highlighted that more than one member of the same family (both husband and wife) is availing the scheme benefits. It was directed that such cases be identified and both members be marked ineligible on the PM-KISAN portal by May 31, 2025.' 'This will allow for adjustment of the excess amount received and ensure that only the rightful amount is credited to one member of the family in future instalments,' the letter read. A government official said district officials were directed to prepare a beneficiary list, weed out those who don't qualify under the scheme through physical visits. 'In cases where both the husband and wife are availing benefits, they should be marked ineligible.' A senior official from Betul district told The Indian Express, 'We have identified 13,000 such cases… there were people from the same family taking benefits of the scheme multiple times. This is an ongoing exercise… the accounts will be adjusted.' Officials said the exercise should be carried out before the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN payments due to be released in the first week of June 2025. The SOP issued by the Centre, a de-duplication exercise is to be carried out using Aadhaar-linked KYC details of beneficiaries and PDS data. In cases with more than one beneficiary linked, the officials have to filter where the members are registered, and whether they are related. Once the total number of instalments transferred to a pair of beneficiaries identified as husband and wife is adjusted against the cumulative entitlement, 'the female beneficiary may be reinstated, subject to eligibility'. 'Their land ownership details should be re-verified, using the Farmer ID or relevant land documents,' the SOP said.

Fake Aadhaar gives away man trying to seal Rs 1 crore land fraud

Noida: An impersonator was caught attempting to fraudulently transfer a 200 sqm residential plot in Greater Noida on Thursday. The accused, Mahipal Singh, created a forged Aadhaar card to transfer the property, plot D-138 in Sector P-3, valued around Rs 1 crore, to one Veer Singh of Delhi's Jaitpur. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The property is originally allotted to one PP Singh. The veil was lifted off the scam when officials noticed discrepancies in Mahipal's photograph and age records on his Aadhaar card, leading to his arrest. Greater Noida Authority manager (properties) Rajesh Singh said the application for property transfer was submitted on April 16 along with documents, including copies of Aadhaar and PAN cards for identity proof, and papers of two witnesses. As per procedure, the applicant was called to the Authority office for a physical verification on Thursday. "Suspicions arose when we noticed discrepancies in his Aadhaar details. There was a mismatch in the photograph and the date of birth. So, we cross-checked the property papers with the original records and found that Mahipal was an impersonator," the official said. Mahipal was arrested on the spot, but two others accompanying him managed to escape. Mahipal, who is from Sikandrabad in Bulandshahr, told cops the plot was vacant for a long time and he used his network to identify the owner and draw up fake documents to sell it for quick money. While it is not immediately clear how Mahipal got details of property documents, SHO Surajpur Vinod Kumar said a case was registered against the accused and two other persons under BNS sections 318(4) (dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property to prevent distribution among creditors), 338 (forging a document), 336(3) (false document), 340(2) (false document or electronic record made wholly or in part by forgery) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy). "Mahipal was arrested and sent to judicial custody. We've launched a search to arrest the remaining two accused," he said. Cops are probing if he sold more plots using same means.
