They urged Tripura govt to take steps to implement ministry of home affairs (MHA) directive on the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. TSF general secretary Hamalu Jamatia said the TSF expresses its deep concern following the notification issued by the MHA on May 19 on illegal immigrants. They said the notification clearly instructs all state govts, including Tripura, to identify and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh within 30 days.
"We urge the Govt of Tripura to take this matter with the highest degree of seriousness. Reports and updates from various regions of the state indicate a steady influx and settlement of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, and in many instances, individuals have already been apprehended by local authorities. Despite these actions, the problem continues to escalate," he said.
They claimed that the TSF is receiving credible reports of illegal immigrants settling in several districts, including Gomati, Dhalai, Sepahijala, South Tripura, West Tripura, and North Tripura.
This widespread and unauthorised settlement poses a serious threat to the demographic balance, land rights, cultural identity, and overall security of the indigenous people of Tripura.

NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday announced and released the list of 1,090 recipients of medals in different categories including gallantry for Police, Fire Services, Home Guard & Civil Defence and Correctional Services on the occasion of Independence Day on Friday. These awards include Gallantry, the President's Medal for Distinguished Service and the Medal for Meritorious Service', as this year, a total 1,090 medals will be conferred, comprising 233 Gallantry Medals, 99 Presidents Medals for Distinguished Service and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service.' According to the MHA's official release, in the Police category 226 officers and personnel have been selected for the Gallantry Medal, 89 will be given the Presidents Medal for Distinguished Service and 635 will receive the Medal for Meritorious Service. Ás the country's internal security challenges are primarily posed in three theatres – Jammu & Kashmir, Naxal-affected areas and the North East, the highest number of Gallantry Medals has gone to personnel of J&K Police, followed by members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), who majorly in anti-Left Wing extremism operations and the Border Security Force (BSF), guarding India's sensitive frontiers with Pakistan and Bangladesh.' The J&K Police have once again led the pack of state police organisations and the Central Armed Police Forces by securing a record 127 Gallantry Medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2025. Among the awardees include late Deputy SP Humayun Muzamil Bhat, who was killed during a fierce encounter in Kokernag, has been posthumously honoured for his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

J&K Police top national gallantry award list with 127 medals
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday bagged the highest number of Gallantry Medals in the country on the occasion of Independence Day 2025, with 127 personnel being honoured for their exceptional bravery, the Ministry of Home (MHA) said. Out of the 233 Gallantry Medals announced this year, 152 security personnel from the union territory have been recognised for their gallant actions. The MHA said among the 152 personnel, the J&K Police top the list with 127 awards, followed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and other security forces. The Home Ministry said that this year, a total of 1,090 personnel from police, fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Services across the country have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals. These include 233 Medal for Gallantry (GM), 99 President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 758 Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). Of the Gallantry Medal awardees, 54 personnel are from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 152 from J&K, three from the Northeast, and 24 from other regions. Of the gallantry award medals, Sujit Kumar, IGP (Security & Crime) J&K, has been awarded the President's police medal for gallantry for showing exceptional courage, bravery and presence of mind. The J&K Police have been in the forefront of fighting armed violence, aided and abetted by Pakistan since 1990. This police force had made huge sacrifices fighting terrorism. Despite grave danger to their lives and family, the J&K Police remained steadfast in bringing order and restoring respect for the law in the union territory, where terrorists dictated the course of daily life by calling for protests and hartals each time life seemed to pick up pace here before the abrogation of Article 370. J&K Police have fought alongside and with the support of the Army and the CAPFs to restore normalcy.

Meghalaya asks Centre to convince Bangladesh to erect fencing close to international border
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has asked the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to convince Bangladesh for permission to erect border fencing closer to the international boundary to secure a 40 km unfenced stretch without leaving villages outside the fenced area, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said. Under international norms, border fencing is built 150 yards inside a country's territory. But in Meghalaya's case, this would result in several villages falling within "no man's land" or outside the fencing, compromising their safety, he said. "We have taken up with the MHA, urging it to convince the government of Bangladesh, because of this reality, let us go close to the main pillar of the border so that we can avoid fencing outside the village," Tynsong told PTI. Tynsong, who is also Home minister, held a meeting with top Home department officials on Wednesday to review international border security after the recent infiltration attempt and the subsequent arrests of Bangladesh nationals. According to the DyCM, such an arrangement would protect villages without putting them in harm's way. He said there are several habitations within the 40-km unfenced border that will be left exposed if fencing is constructed strictly as per international norms. The push for closer fencing follows an incident in Rongdangai village where six members of an armed gang, led by a Bangladesh Police constable, allegedly crossed into Indian territory, assaulted a local shopkeeper and looted cash and valuables. Tynsong said instructions have been issued to all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to adopt proactive measures to prevent infiltration along the entire India-Bangla border, from East Jaintia Hills to Dalu in Garo Hills.
