Chick-fil-A's latest metro Detroit location to open in Auburn Hills, create 130 jobs

Yahoo16-04-2025
Chick-fil-A, the fast-food giant known for its chicken sandwiches, continues its expansion in the Michigan market, with a new restaurant opening in Auburn Hills.
At 6:30 a.m. April 17, Chick-fil-A opens at 2111 N. Squirrel Road.
The Auburn Hills location expects to employ about 130 people. In southeast Michigan, there are now 20 Chick-fil-A locations and more than 30 across Michigan.
Chick-fil-A is known for its signature fried or grilled chicken sandwiches with a pickle and special sauce, waffle fries and a menu of salads, sides and breakfast items.
Locally owned and operated by Greg Russell, the restaurant will offer dine-in, drive-thru and carry-out service from 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Chick-fil-A locations are noted for being closed on Sundays. Russell, according to a news release, is a metro Detroit native and former youth basketball coach. On Thursday, Russell will honor 100 local heroes with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
"My goal is to cultivate a place where love is at the center of everything we do – serving our Guests with care, supporting our Team Members and giving back to the community," Russell said in a news release.
As with most Chick-fil-A openings, the new restaurant will donate $25,000 to Feeding America that will benefit hunger relief efforts and be distributed between Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and Forgotten Harvest.
The Auburn Hills locations will also participate in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, which donates surplus food to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits.
More: Cava, a fast-casual Mediterranean chain, will open first Michigan location in Detroit
Last September, Chick-fil-A announced a significant investment and expansion of its Michigan footprint. The fast-food giant expects to add more than two dozen locations in metro Detroit and statewide. Across these new anticpated Michigan locations, Chick-fil-A expects to create 2,500 jobs.
Chick-fil-A already operates nearly 30 restaurants across the state and about a dozen in metro Detroit, from Woodhaven to Novi to Shelby Township.
With cult-like following — and oft-criticized for its past donations to anti-LGBTQ+ causes — Chick-fil-A ranks as a popular fast-food chain with consumers. For the 10th year straight, the chain held the top spot for fast food on the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2024 report released last June. The family-owned Chick-fil-A was founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy and is headquartered in Atlanta. There are more than 3,000 Chick-fil-A locations across 48 states, Washington, D.C., Canada and Puerto Rico, according to chick-fil-a.com.

Veteran trader reviews Cava Group earnings and has a sharp take

Veteran trader reviews Cava Group earnings and has a sharp take originally appeared on TheStreet. Waiter, there's a fog in my soup. Cava Group () took a four-alarm shellacking on Aug. 13 after the Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant chain missed second-quarter-revenue estimates and lowered its full-year forecast for same-store sales. 💵💰Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter 💰💵 The company's shares tumbled nearly 20% and Chief Financial Officer Tricia Toliver discussed the current economy during the earnings call. "We're operating in a fluid macroeconomic environment, and it's one that sort of creates a fog for consumers where things are changing constantly," Toliver told analysts. "It's hard to see the clear. And those during those times they tend to step off of the gas." It seems that the fog is getting pretty thick out there, and many consumers have been hitting the brakes when it comes to dining out. In the first half of 2025, US restaurants and bars saw one of the weakest six-month periods of sales growth in the past decade, according to a CNN analysis of U.S. Commerce Department data. Veteran trader: Cava balance sheet a work of art This year has shown weaker growth than even during the Covid-19 pandemic, when restaurants and bars closed due to lockdown orders, CNN reported, And in June Campbell's Co. () said it saw stronger quarterly sales of broth and condensed soup as more Americans cooked their meals at home. More Restaurants After closing restaurants, Papa John's puts focus on pizza Beloved sandwich chain franchisee closes in Chapter 11 bankruptcy Top-10 burgers list deals blow to McDonald's, Burger King "The team's done an outstanding job navigating tariffs both on the supply chain construction side so that we're not anticipating material changes at all in our ability to grow and continue to leverage those robust new restaurant openings that we've been experiencing," Toliver said. TheStreet Pro's Stephen Guilfoyle pulled up a chair at Cava Group's table and reviewed the company's financials. The firm has hit a bump, the veteran trader said. "Still, cash flows are positive, margins are holding up. Same-store sales are pressured. That said, the balance sheet is a work of art. In theory, I find this company investable as long as a decent entry point can be found." Guilfoyle, whose career dates back to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange in the 1980s, pointed to the stock's simple moving average, which is used to calculate the average price of a stock over a specific period, and exponential moving average, which unlike the SMA places more emphasis on recent price data. "The stock has now lost its 50-day SMA after losing its 21-day EMA," he said. "This will force portfolio managers to either exit the stock or reduce exposure as the 200-day SMA is nothing but a distant memory." Cava Group's stock is down 40% in 2025 and has tumbled 29% from a year ago. Analyst sees buying opportunity Investment firms issued research reports following Cava Group's earnings report. While "disappointed" by Cava's Q2 same-restaurant sales growth of 2.1%, Stifel analyst Chris O'Cull said that doesn't justify a $2 billion hit to its market value. He sees the sharp pullback in shares as a buying opportunity, according to The Fly. Despite the comparables miss, Cava beat Ebitda estimates and new stores are ramping quickly, said O'Cull, who views the recent weakness as "a temporary setback, not a change in the fundamental outlook." Stifel affirmed a buy rating and $125 price target on Cava analyst Christopher Carril lowered the firm's price target on Cava Group to $85 from $100 and maintained an overweight rating on the shares. The investment firm noted that Q2 same-store-sales trends missed consensus and likely fell short of buy-side expectations. That said, earnings per share and Ebitda exceeded Wall Street's estimates as store-level margins fell in line with the analyst consensus, and general and administrative expense largely offset most of the revenue shortfall. G&A expense in the current quarter was 11.4% of revenue compared with 12.1% a year earlier. Same-store-sales growth improved in July and in the quarter-to-date, but trends likely remain short of the mid-single-digit-percent range Wall Street expected in the second half, the analyst said. Bank of America Securities lowered its price target on Cava Group to $100 from $121 and reiterated a buy rating on the shares. A "modest" revenue miss, despite a "more meaningful" miss on same-store-sales growth, is a function of an evolving restaurant maturity curve, the firm said. While the tailwind to comparisons from maturing stores has moderated, the investment firm said it was encouraged by new unit-volume strength across markets of widely disparate sizes. Should You Buy the Post-Earnings Plunge in CAVA Stock?

On Aug. 13, CAVA's (CAVA) stock was hit hard, tumbling nearly 16.6% after the Mediterranean fast-casual chain delivered its fiscal 2025 second-quarter results, which left investors unsettled. The company did beat profit expectations, yet Wall Street's attention quickly shifted to signs of slowing demand and a trimmed profitability outlook. CFO Tricia Tolivar noted that the quarter began with strong same-store sales growth, which had prompted management to reaffirm its prior outlook when reporting first-quarter results. But the pace changed once the chain marked the one-year anniversary of its grilled steak launch. The celebratory milestone appeared to coincide with a more gradual growth trajectory at existing locations. The reduced full-year EBITDA forecast only deepened investor caution. As a result, shares slid toward the 52-week low of $65.70, erasing a notable portion of this year's earlier gains. For a brand that had previously enjoyed robust traffic trends, the latest update introduces a new layer of scrutiny. Investors are now left to weigh whether this dip will become a value entry or a caution flag for portfolios that crave consistent sales growth. About CAVA Stock CAVA, headquartered in Washington, D.C., runs a growing network of restaurants. Beyond its physical footprint, the company extends its presence into grocery aisles with a line of dips, spreads, and dressings, while digital channels, including online and mobile ordering, remain a vital part of its strategy. The market currently values CAVA at roughly $8.1 billion. Performance over the past year has been volatile. Over the last 52 weeks, shares have declined 25.4%, with a steeper 23.5% drop recorded in just the past month as revised guidance unsettled the market. Valuation metrics, however, show that the market prices CAVA at a premium. It trades at 126.40 times forward-adjusted earnings and 6.93 times sales, both of which are well above the industry averages. A Closer Look at CAVA's Q2 Earnings On Aug. 2, CAVA released its Q2 2025 results, offering a detailed look at current performance and the path ahead. Revenue rose 20.2% year over year to $280.6 million, missing analyst expectations of $286.6 million. Same-store sales increased 2.1%, outperforming much of the industry but falling short of the 6.1% growth forecast by Wall Street. The company described quarterly traffic as 'roughly flat.' By comparison, the same quarter last year saw a 14.4% increase in same-store sales, driven by nearly double-digit growth in traffic. Adjusted net income grew 9.4% from the year-ago quarter to $18.4 million, while EPS fell 5.9% from the prior year's figure to $0.16, still surpassing the $0.13 consensus estimate. On a non-GAAP basis, adjusted EPS was 14.3% higher than a year earlier. For fiscal 2025, CAVA now projects same-store sales growth of 4% to 6%, down from the previously projected range of 6% to 8%. The company reaffirmed its adjusted EBITDA target of $152 million to $159 million and maintained restaurant-level profit margins between 24.8% and 25.2%. Looking ahead, analysts expect Q3 EPS to decline 6.7% year-over-year to $0.14. Yet for the full fiscal year 2025, EPS is forecasted to climb 33.3% to $0.56, with fiscal 2026 bottom line projected to reach $0.67, up 19.6% from the prior year. What Do Analysts Expect for CAVA Stock? The earnings stumble has not erased optimism among many analysts, who view the recent pullback as an opportunity to enter at lower levels. During Q2, CAVA added 16 new restaurants, bringing its total to 398 locations, a clear sign that expansion remains central to its strategy. Analysts have assigned CAVA an overall rating of 'Moderate Buy.' Of the 17 analysts covering the stock, 11 rate it a 'Strong Buy' and six recommend a 'Hold.' CAVA's average price target of $110.50 represents potential upside of 56.8%. Stifel's Chris O`Cull holds the Street-high target of $125, suggesting a potential climb of 77.4% from current levels. He argued that the earnings shortfall reflects a 'temporary setback' rather than a shift in the company's long-term trajectory.
