Majority of Americans support UN recognition of Palestine: poll
The survey, which concluded on Monday, found that 33% of respondents disagreed, while 9% did not have an opinion.
The findings come as US allies such as Britain, Canada, and France have signaled their intent to recognize a Palestinian state.
The poll's results also indicate a broader shift in American sentiment regarding the conflict. A significant portion of respondents, 59%, said they believe 'Israel's' military response in Gaza has been excessive, an increase from 53% in a similar poll conducted in February.
This support for Palestinian statehood appears to be part of a broader trend of declining American sympathy for 'Israel', particularly among key demographic groups.
A recent Gallup poll found that approval of 'Israel's' military actions has fallen to a record low of just 8% among Democrats, while it stands at 25% for Independents.
This contrasts sharply with Republicans, whose approval has remained stable at 71%. A similar generational divide exists, with only 9% of Americans aged 18 to 34 approving of 'Israel's' military actions in Gaza, compared to 47% of those 55 and older.
The White House has previously stated that recognizing a Palestinian state would be a "reward for Hamas".
The poll which surveyed 4,446 US adults nationwide has a margin of error of approximately 2 percentage points.

Buchenwald and its annex, Mittelbau-Dora, near Weimar, held roughly 340,000 prisoners, including Jews, Roma, homosexuals, and Soviet POWs. Around 56,000 people died at Buchenwald through execution, starvation, or forced labor, while Mittelbau-Dora saw another 20,000 deaths as inmates worked on the Nazis' V1 and V2 rockets.
