It's time for spring cleaning and Millcreek Township is launching their seasonal initiatives promoting clean, safe neighborhoods.
The township is offering free services for residents to dispose of household waste, leaves, and hazardous materials responsibly.

From May 5 through 9, which is this week, leaves can be picked up in clear bags with regularly scheduled trash collection.
Residents can also schedule to dispose of one large item per week.

'Especially with the leaves we like to see those go and be composed as opposed to fulling the landfill up and i think just general blight and cleanliness throughout the township we want to try to keep everything as clean as possible we do get a lot of complaints off and on from neighbors about if they do see some trash accumulating on anothers property,' said Millcreek Township Supervisor Jim Bock.
On Saturday, May 17, the township will have its annual special collection event at the Millfar Compost Center.

Readers critique The Post: Spelling bees are pointless. So is correct spelling.

Every week, The Post runs a collection of letters of readers' grievances — pointing out grammatical mistakes, missing coverage and inconsistencies. These letters tell us what we did wrong and, occasionally, offer praise. Here, we present this week's Free for All letters. As a proud English teacher for 60 years, I read Nicole Krauss's May 25 Opinion essay, 'The end of writing and reading will be the end of freedom,' with enthusiasm — and with horror at the knowledge that so many young people have no concept of the joy of reading. It put into words all the fears I have had over the years about the written word becoming obsolete. It also brought me back to a sense of optimism that some of our youths still cherish reading. I hope I have nurtured all my students to read and appreciate the written word.
