A Reminder There's Somehow A '28 Years Later' Sequel In Seven Months

Forbes24-06-2025
28 Years Later
28 Years Later is a critical and box office success, sailing to a $60 million opening worldwide when the original film, 28 Days Later, only made $82 million total. It is on pace to rapidly surpass its overall budget.
What 28 Years Later viewers may not know, or at least have forgotten, is that there is a sequel film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, being released soon. Not conceptually, not in some far-flung release window. It's out in seven months. As in, January 2026, barring any changes.
The film is not directed by Danny Boyle this time, but rather Nia DaCosta who did The Marvels and Candyman. Alex Garland is the writer of both films (and the OG 28 Days Later). The reason the movie is out so soon is that both 28 Years films were shot back-to-back.
It retains some of the stars from 28 Years Later, including Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (uh, spoilers?), but the centerpiece is the return of Cillian Murphy to the series, who did not star in the first 28 Years installment. There is a third movie planned, but Danny Boyle says that it will only be made if the first two are successful. That does seem like it will be the case, albeit I would be shocked if 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple does nearly as well as the original movie, as I think a seven-months-later sequel with a very similar name is going to confuse some people. And you will definitely have to have seen the first film for it to make much sense, no doubt.
28 Years Later
28 Years Later was at one point the second best-reviewed horror movie of 2025 (nothing is going to be Sinners, obviously), but the score has dropped a bit. Audience scores are not great, with a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. Here's how the 2025 critic list looks now for mainstream horror:
I am certainly curious what 28 Years Later: The Bone Collector does in terms of both its critic and audience reviews. There's also a significant difference with Boyle switching to Nia DaCosta, who directed the biggest cinematic bomb in the MCU, The Marvels (I would argue that film is over-hated and deserved better, but still). Given the context of the sequel and what she has to work with, I think this will still go well.

Birmingham tributes to Ozzy Osbourne will be taken down and given to his family

Tributes left for Ozzy Osbourne in his home city of Birmingham are to be taken down and given to the late star's family. Birmingham City Council has started the process of removing thousands of tributes in honour of the Black Sabbath rocker following his death last month at the age of 76. Fans had flocked to the city to pay their respects to Ozzy as flowers, keepsake items and handwritten notes were left at Black Sabbath Bridge - a spot that marks the Paranoid band's formation. The council says that the tributes will be preserved at a secure location before being passed on to Ozzy's loved ones. It stated: "In due course, they will be passed on the Osbourne family, so they may keep them as a lasting reminder of the public's affection and support." A concert ticket from 1995 featured among the tributes, which also included artwork and beer cans. Kate Brazier, head of city centre events at the council, said: "We've found all sorts - artwork, cans of beer and candles. We've found a box of tea with a message that says, 'Just in case you can't find a cuppa in heaven.' "But for me, the one that stands out the most is (the concert ticket) that someone's left a message on. It probably meant a lot to someone at one point in their life." Ozzy's family viewed the tributes during his funeral procession in the city last week and said they were "deeply moved" by the affection the public had for the Prince of Darkness - who had played his final gig with Black Sabbath at Birmingham's Villa Park stadium just 17 days prior to his death. A statement read: "We are deeply moved by the heartfelt tributes that have been placed at the Black Sabbath Bridge and at the Black Sabbath mural on Navigation Street in recent days. "These expressions of remembrance reflect the profound impact that Ozzy had on the city and its people, as well as fans from around the world - BIRMINGHAM FOREVER!" Lord Mayor of Birmingham Zafar Iqbal said: "We understand how important it is for the community to have a space to grieve and celebrate Ozzy's legacy. "We know fans will continue to pay their respects at the Black Sabbath Bridge and the mural on Navigation Street, as well as visiting the Ozzy exhibition."

Chris Hemsworth recalls 'out of body experience' as he played drums at Ed Sheeran gig

Chris Hemsworth had an "out of body experience" as he performed with Ed Sheeran. The Thor actor joined the Bad Habits hitmaker on stage at a concert in Bucharest, Romania in front of 70,000 fans after learning to play the drums for his National Geographic series Limitless: Live Better Now and recalled how he felt as if he was "floating" during the gig. Speaking at a Q+A for the show, Chris said: "(It was) very much a kind of out of body experience and there's something about being in unison and in time with, not just a band, but a mass group of people. "And I imagine it was sort of like a universal prayer or whatever, where people get together, and this sort of intention to point towards something positive in the same direction that there would be some interconnected experience. "And that's what it felt like. I felt like it was kind of beyond me at that point. I was just floating along for the ride." Hemsworth admits that it was challenging to come up with ideas for the new series after he had been "killed emotionally and physically" by the initial programme Limitless with Chris Hemsworth in 2022. The 41-year-old star said: "The first series almost killed me, emotionally and physically. That was by design. "We discussed, what, if we're going to do a second season, what could we tackle? What new science is there? What could we expand upon." Chris discovered during the making of Limitless that he was considerably more likely to suffer from Alzheimer's disease because of his genetics but he is prepared to "embrace death" as he doesn't think it can be cheated. The Rush star told the BBC: "Suffering comes from denial of our inevitably of death - we all have an expiration death. "If you were told you had 200 years guaranteed you'd become more complacent and reckless. The idea that life can be taken away at any second is a beautiful reminder to appreciate every moment." Hemsworth hopes that he can educate others about Alzheimer's after learning that he is at significant risk of the disease - which robs sufferers of their memories. He said: "That warning sign was further motivation to take care of myself. "It also felt like a great opportunity to offer up education and a better understanding for people navigating it as Alzheimer's is something a lot of people face."

Kerry Katona weighs in on Myleene Klass's 'cheating' revelation about ex husband

Kerry Katona says she understands "where Myleene Klass is coming from" after the former Hear'Say singer revealed she caught her then-fiancé undressing a famous face during her own birthday party at their home. Chatting on Paul C Brunson's We Need To Talk podcast, the 47-year-old TV personality claimed: 'I walked in on him with a famous person on my birthday on a balcony. I'm in my house, it's my party. They weren't having sex, but they were unzipping each other. I kicked everybody out of the party – including his mum and dad.' She went on to say that the mystery woman was famous for building 'a family brand', and claimed Graham apologised for the indiscretion. In her exclusive column this week, Atomic Kitten singer Kerry reveals she can empathise Loose Women Myleene, and also offers her thoughts on the recent updates from Molly-Mae Hague and Cat Deeley... KLASS ACT I totally understand where Myleene Klass is coming from when she talked on Paul C Brunson's podcast about being cheated on. When you are married, especially when you have children and are totally in love, discovering that you've been cheated on is very difficult. It's equally hard to admit defeat and end the relationship. I understand her feelings about what happened and I think she's very brave to speak out about it all. TOP TIME IN IBIZA I managed to get away to beautiful Ibiza for a few days, which was a really lovely break in every way. I got away from it all and just enjoyed some chillout time, relaxation and lots of sunshine. I must have needed it – I feel like a new woman now. SHOW SOME SYMPATHY! Molly-Mae Hague has been experiencing a backlash with critics saying she's 'out of touch'. She's being honest about her struggles and people need to give her a break. She's a young mum of a toddler and that's bloody hard work – I remember it well. She seems to work 24/7 and when she's away on holiday and people are commenting about it online, I guarantee you she's still working – I know I do. I'M SAD FOR CAT & PAT I can't believe that Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty's marriage is over. It's really upsetting news – they seemed like such a lovely couple. I know Cat, although we haven't spoken in years, and I think I met Patrick once. When there are kids involved, separations are even more sad, but these things happen. MY HAPPY PLACE I can't wait to watch Happy Gilmore 2 . I'm a massive fan of the original film and I love Adam Sandler – he's hilarious. It's just been released on Netflix so I'm looking forward to settling down and watching it with the kids one night. Apparently Taylor Swift 's other half Travis Kelce has a cameo and he's really funny and Eminem makes an appearance too.
