Krugersdorp cop under fire over R500 ‘gratification'
He is facing corruption-related charges for allegedly soliciting a bribe of R10,000 from the family of a suspect.
The Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation unit arrested Nzwane.
The suspect had been arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, allegedly against his daughter.
The suspect had initially been granted bail at the police station, with a court appearance scheduled for the following day. However, during court proceedings, the magistrate revoked the station-level bail, citing the seriousness of the charges.
The matter was postponed for a formal bail application. According to a police report, three days before the bail hearing, Nzwane approached the suspect's family and falsely claimed the magistrate had requested R10,000 in exchange for bail.
Nzwane was granted bail of R1000 after being arrested by the Hawks. The matter was postponed to 14 August for further investigation.
This comes amid KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's recent corruption accusations related to law enforcement agencies in South Africa.

Law Society's criminal law committee chairperson, William Booth, said parents who wish to take legal action against the academy could be compensated due to the fact that return tickets were never booked. 'My view is that at least theft and or fraud would be applicable in this instance. Then what laws or regulations does the academy appear to have violated? "Well, look, obviously the common law of theft or fraud, and then you've got laws possibly in terms of the Immigration Act and the Child Justice Act.'

Lolitha's body was discovered on Wednesday morning after she went missing the previous evening. Next Stay Close ✕ Her aunt, Ntombifuthi Kowa, said: 'The last time we saw her, she had gone out to play with her friend. "When she didn't come home by 5 pm, my sister became worried and went looking for her. But the suspect – the mother of Lolitha's friend – refused to open the door. 'We went back to the house three times. She only opened the following morning, when Lolitha's body had already been found. When the police arrived, she had been washing blood.' Kowa said the female suspect was someone the family trusted. 'She could come to our home whenever she wanted. We never had any fights with her. She was like family.' Another resident, Mickey Linda, said this was not the first time the suspect had taken Lolitha without informing anyone. 'She once took her to Nkanini without saying anything. We searched for Lolitha, and the suspect brought her back the next day. We thought it was one of those things again. But this time, her refusal to open the door felt different.' Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that after the child's body was discovered on 23 July in Nambuzane Street, Kuyasa, police immediately launched an integrated investigation involving the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit, the Dog Unit, Public Order Police, Crime Intelligence, and Harare detectives. 'The biological sniffer dog led the members to an address in Sindwadwa Street, Kuyasa, where the child was last seen,' Twigg said. 'The dog reacted to blood on a mop and blood stains on the floor of the house, which are believed to be the child's. An adult male and female were arrested in connection with the murder.' The suspects are expected to appear in court on Friday.

No raid conducted at Dudu Myeni's house: police call out fake social media post
Police have dismissed claims the national intervention unit (NIU) raided the KwaZulu-Natal home of the late former SAA chair Dudu Myeni. This comes after a social media post claimed: 'The NIU raided Dudu Myeni's house and allegedly found R18m in a safe.' Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said no raid was conducted. 'The SA Police Service (SAPS) warns against the spread of fake news about a NIU raid in which R18m was found in a safe at a house in Richards Bay. 'The SAPS calls for responsible social media reporting and for users to verify information before sharing. 'No raid was undertaken by any unit.' Myeni died in 2024 after battling cancer. She served on the SAA board from 2009 until 2017, while Jacob Zuma was president, and was its chair for the last five of those years. Her role at SAA was marred by fraud and corruption allegations stemming from the commission of inquiry into state capture and she was said to have been instrumental in the crippling of the airline. She allegedly received R300,000 from Bosasa, supposedly for the Jacob Zuma Foundation.
