This city feels like home. Every time I'm here, it's like coming back to a place I belong. I love the food here; Hyderabadi people are incredibly warm and love feeding you! Some of my favourite people live here, and whenever I'm in town for a shoot, I make sure to carve out time to meet them and enjoy good food. The city has such a positive vibe and just lifts my energy.
Tell us about your journey in the film industry.
It's been over 20 years now. I started off in Punjab, and by accident, I became a hockey player. I come from a lower-middle-class family, and survival pushed me toward sports. I had no background in acting or cinema, and hockey seemed like a way to make ends meet. I even aimed to join the police at one point. I played nationals in hockey but couldn't go further. Later, I wanted to join the Army; I was good at shooting and joined the NCC. There's a culture in Punjab where the eldest son serves the country, but my mother stopped me. 'I only have one son,' she said.
I wasn't great at academics. I would skip college to watch films, especially the ones starring Amitabh Bachchan. That's how my passion for acting began. Modelling came by accident, and I started getting brand assignments. From Punjab to Delhi, I kept moving, getting some recognition for being photogenic. Kunal Kumar gave me a project, and then I did music videos.
Mumbai was tough — I struggled, but I always called myself a self-made artist. I did Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Yash Raj Films, and Ravi K Chandran was the cinematographer. He later cast me in his directorial debut. That's how I began getting roles, especially as a villain, which eventually opened doors to the South film industry.

Vaani Kapoor has officially stepped into the OTT space with Yash Raj Films ' latest series, Mandala Murders. Departing from her usual rom-com roles, Vaani takes on the character of Rea Thomas, a determined officer from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). In an interview with Moneycontrol, the Befikre actress opened up about her new collaboration with YRF and reflected on her journey in Bollywood, sharing some of the personal challenges she has faced along the way. Vaani Kapoor Recalls Her Struggling Days In Mumbai During the interview, Vaani reflected on her early days in Mumbai, admitting that her introverted nature made the transition even more challenging. She moved to the city without any connections, no family, no friends and no projects in hand. 'I told myself I would give this dream one or two years. If it didn't work, I'd move on," she recalled, adding that unpredictability, isolation and self-doubt were her constant companions. Vaani remembered sitting alone and wondering if she truly belonged there, but it was her self-belief that kept her going. Vaani Kapoor Gets Out Of Her Comfort Zone For Mandala Murders Vaani also talked about her decision to shift from her usual roles to opt for such a complex character like Rea Thomas. 'This was very different from anything I've tried before. Rea was someone who couldn't be read easily, aloof, trauma-stricken, and a complete observer. Most of the emotion had to come through her eyes without high-pitched dialogues or dramatic gestures," Vaani stated, revealing that the emotionally and mentally taxing role fascinated her. She further explained that consistency was the toughest part. 'You can't step out of the character's design. Action sequences, physical training, and the mental weight of trauma—it all pushed me out of my comfort zone," she added. Vaani Kapoor's Role In Mandaala Murders In the thriller series, Mandala Murders, Vaani Kapoor takes on the role of Rhea Thomas, a CIB officer grappling with PTSD while navigating a perilous world. Across eight gripping episodes, she strikes a fine balance between the role's physical intensity and emotional nuance. For audiences more familiar with Vaani's work in romantic comedies, this performance comes as a refreshing revelation. 'I genuinely enjoy slice-of-life romances and love stories that feel larger than life. But I've always wanted to explore more, to show variations in my body of work," Vaani said. Plot Of Mandala Murders Backed by YRF Entertainment, the crime thriller is inspired by the novel The Butcher of Benaras. Set in the fictional town of Charandaspur, Uttar Pradesh, the plot weaves together elements of mystery, psychological thriller and supernatural horror. The story follows Rea Thomas and Vikram Singh as they investigate a string of ritualistic murders tied to a cult and a mythical entity. The series is now on Netflix. Saiyaara Box Office Collection Day 15: Ahaan Panday And Aneet Padda's Debut Film Records Lowest Earnings Since Release
New Delhi: Saiyaara, starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has completed 15 days in theatres. After a strong two-week run, the film's earnings have begun to slow. What's Happening According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Saiyaara collected Rs 4.25 crore on Day 15, taking its total India net collection to Rs 284.75 crore. The film's worldwide collection has crossed the Rs 440 crore mark. Despite recording its lowest single-day earnings on Day 15, Saiyaara has already been declared a success. Over the past 15 days, Mohit Suri's directorial has surpassed the lifetime collections of several major releases, including Kabir Singh (Rs 278 crore), Tiger 3 (Rs 276 crore), Dhoom 3 (Rs 271 crore), and Brahmastra Part One (Rs 241 crore). The film is now close to overtaking Kalki AD 2898 AD (Rs 293 crore) and Sultan (Rs 300 crore). On Friday, the film registered an average occupancy of 19.42% across all shows. Morning and afternoon shows recorded 11.89% and 19.15% respectively, while evening and night shows performed slightly better with 20.24% and 26.40%. Background Among recent debuts in Bollywood, Ahaan Panday's launch has proven to be one of the most successful. His cousin Ananya Panday debuted with Student of the Year 2, which earned Rs 70 crore in India, a figure Saiyaara crossed in just three days. Shanaya Kapoor's debut in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan (Rs 1.77 crore), co-starring Vikrant Massey, struggled at the box office in comparison. Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2 was delayed to avoid a clash with Saiyaara. The film's success has been attributed to its lead pair, its title track, and strategic decisions by director Mohit Suri and producer Yash Raj Films.
